Think the riders might object to the loss of a payday though -
Newcastle V Berwick Pl Sunday 8th June 2014 At 6.30pm
Paulco replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
All action , but what really comes across is when other riders are interviewed after racing against him is the fact he always leaves the other rider racing room . Likewise he complemented Joe Screen and James Grieves during a centre green interview at Glasgow after one of the races of the season there last year , between the three of them . Will be a sad day when Stuart eventually calls it a day , he's one of the visiting riders everyone likes to see come to their track , and a gentleman of the sport -
Peterborough V Ipswich Tues 10/06/14

I don't see what the big deal is . At the ice hockey during the winter they play the national anthem ( okay different to yours ) before every match . Everybody stands up for a minute or two and then sits down again without any fuss . -
I've seen it happen when the referee just runs out of patience . A Workington v Glasgow meeting in 2005 , the ref put both Carl Stonehewer and Shane Parker back 15 metres after the pair took an age to settle at the tapes . Seems the referee is the only person who can really put a stop to all this nonsense

Glasgow V Berwick Mon 9th June

Agreed . Surely when Berwick are up on League business it would make sense to run this meaningless meeting alongside it as a double header . I think the Friday night thing was quashed by the BSPA before we actually got round to purchasing the floodlights . -

Rained-off Meetings Then And Now
Paulco replied to mike1944's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The rain is more likely to kill off speedway than the usual complification of the rules on a yearly basis . Out of the 10 home meetings Glasgow should have had by now , 4 have been rained off , including the last two , and one curtailed . And especially having a Sunday afternoon raceday , folk will just get sick of the constant postponements and find something else to do on a Sunday . -
Merely trying to sign out of work riders , regardless of who they have ridden for in the past

We've stayed at a Premier Inn before which was only 5 minutes walk from the track , through a supermarket car park -
Pretty sure Kauko would score more than the fives and sixes the current number one weighs in with
-
Trouble is , there isn't the number ones out there who aren't riding in Poland most Sundays . The only one that springs to mind is Kauko Nieminen
-
Despite the attempts by one of our friends from the east ,using Lemon's exit and the circumstances behind it , as a stick to beat us with . It was obvious the current Glasgow side wasn't good enough and wasn't working . Everybody accepted change had to be made . Lemon became the most vulnerable as soon as Christian Henry himself became a victim of the numbers game at Newcastle , plus the Australian team manager's role could mean some missing meetings come World Cup time . So it's welcome back for a third spell in the stripes for Christian Henry , and goodbye and good luck to Mark Lemon . Whether that is the last change remains to be seen
-
I don't suppose we'll ever know the full details , but the rumours that were sweeping the Armadale terraces on Friday night will not have went unnoticed by the riders , so the whiff of change was there and Lemon must have known he was one of the more vulnerable ones to be a victim of that change .
-
Well we don't know all the details , so we're just speculating . How do you know that Mark wasn't told last night and it was all amicable and he was asked for his opinion .
-
Speedway promoters seem to possess the brass neck unheard of in other sports . It's not the first time we've heard of a rider completing a meeting for his club , then sacked

Along with death and taxes , rain on a Sunday is rapidly joining the only certainties in life . I'm getting pretty sick of it Mind you , got the taxi up from the Horseshoe and got there about 2 , loads of folk hanging about and the gates weren't open . I said to Willie , sod this i'm not paying to get in yet , lets go into the Ashfield Bar for a pint and wait a while . Once we heard it was off , we finished our pints and went in for a look - track was like porridge . -

It is a difficult one . Berge , we are told , will be back at some point . He actually drops to reserve today . But we are beginning to worry that it's going to be long term and he was the shining light of our season before he got hurt . As for the rest . Anders Thomsen cant be faulted . The lad is riding out his skin , ok maybe he tries a wee bit too hard at times , but you canny criticise the lad for that . We'll see how he does out of the reserve position . Kasper Lykke also cant be faulted . Fair enough he cant gate for toffee , but he tries his heart out in every race . Now it gets more murkier . Theo Pijper is fine at home when he gates , more often than not he's ineffective when he doesn't . 5/10 for his performances so far . Rusty Harrison has in the main done his job , apart from the last home match against Workington . The headache excuse for Friday's absence , hot on the heels of the disappointing return against Workington , got the rumour mill working overtime on Friday . Mark Lemon is 41 and obviously not the force he once was , he's scoring the fives and sixes which is basically all we can expect . Kevin Wolbert is the main disappointment . We know how good a rider he is , we've seen it in the past round Armadale and Ashfield when he was a Monarch What we have witnessed this season isn't even close to what he was just a couple of seasons ago . Mark Lemon scoring 5 and 6 is one thing , Wolbert scoring the same is quite another . We've heard all the excuses about engines etc , we've had enough . A number one scoring 5 and 6 isn't going to win his team many meetings . Our bottom end is improving and exciting . The four experienced riders at the top aren't raising their game adequately enough ,and in Wolbert's case not at all . Regardless what changes are made , nobody among the Tigers faithful would lose any sleep if any of the top 4 are replaced .
