  1. I don't have a lot of faith in that last bit happening . Just a shame Fisher boooooooooo , isnt there . OK we hate the bugger , but he's entertainment . Son of God , for all his holy ancestry , is pretty much a gating tart . Fisher and Berge and Thomsen in the same meeting would be quality entertainment
  2. Make up your mind , you either bit or you didn't or are you just not sure ?
  3. Good point . EL third heat leaders seem to have the worst of the deal in the new EL race format , while second strings have their averages falsely inflated . It's a shambles , but could open that door to the likes of Scott Nicholls
  4. We only have those when we have a lengthy injury list Blobs , you must have heard that before through in Smugville
  5. Forecast for tomorrow is better than todays , if you believe the BBC that is . Berge has been our shining light in a difficult start to the season , not quite got to grips with Armadale yet but he joins a long list in that club . Yes the performance at Redcar seemed to be much improved but its still played 6 lost 6 and i fear we wont improve on that tomorrow
  6. We had to pay a couple of quid to get a day membership , but it was well worth doing
  7. Following on from the " best and worst " thread , what about us guys who dont bother with food at the speedway . Glasgow - the Ashfield Bar is pretty much like the bar in Star Wars , avoid at all costs . Horseshoe Bar in the city centre then taxi to the track is much better . Edinburgh - not really a pub near the track . There is one on the road on the walk from Armadale cross , but you walk in there and all the locals turn round and stare at you . Some not bad pubs in Bathgate though Berwick - loved the Brewers Arms and the Queens Head , but the Black and Gold club is the perfect speedway bar Workington - the bar at the track suffices , i do go into a Wotherspoons in the town centre which is ok . We do our drinking in Cockermouth beforehand Newcastle - the Fossway is fine , unless you are my mate Alan who went in there with a Glasgow Tigers top which unfortunately had red and white vertical stripes Redcar - no pub nearby , but the track bar is good Sheffield - just love the New Barrack Tavern across the road and along a wee bit from the track Peterborough - good Harvester pub at the entrance to the Showground , but a bit of a hike to the track from there Somerset - excellent CAMRA pub in West Huntspill called the Cross Keys , Bristol Bridge near the track is good too Plymouth - stopped at the Premier Inn near the track so just used their bar Rye House - The Rye pub is the daddy of the PL pubs Ipswich - stopped in a Premier Inn next to a marina and the pub next door was good . At the track though it doesnt open till 45 mins before the start and shuts bang on heat 15 Scunthorpe - we were in a pub in the town centre which had signs about having the right to search for weapons was a bit of a dive . No pub near the track , but the bar there is ok Swindon - Cold Harbour across the road is superb Leicester - good pub in the wee shopping place along from the track , wee bar in the car park too is ok Poole - couldnt see a pub near the track , but the bar under the stand is ok Birmingham - Wotherspoons a short walk from the track is a decent boozer Coventry - no pub near the track , but the Cocked Hat pub next to the Premier Inn i stopped at was good Belle Vue - Snooker Club across the road was three pints for a fiver last time we were there
  8. Seems we did better than i thought we would . Berge really is a find , better get 12 meetings under his belt quickly before someone comes sniffing round . Again , although we contributed to a decent meeting , our gating was again below par . But certainly more encouraging . Seems to me one change could make us a decent outfit . Whether that is to bring in a number 1 who will score a number 1's points or replace a rider who is clearly done , remains to be seen , the next two or three weeks will be interesting .
  9. Cant see us troubling the Bears too much . Our number 1 is badly underperforming and our gating in general hasn't been up to scratch . I hope we can produce a competative meeting , but our performances so far dont suggest that
  10. Anyway that's the Mickey Mouse pre season tournament shelved for a while ( till we run our meaningless rain off restagings ) and we start our league campaign ....................oh dear While we have been pretty abject , the Panthers have been ticking along quite nicely . Spearheading the Panthers is our old friend Ryan Fisher booooooooo . But he is missing this weekend , probably away sharpening his horns somewhere , and they have drafted in the best possible guest to take his place ................the Son of God . It's pretty shocking really that the annointed one hasn't as yet took up his birthright and followed in his father's hallowed footsteps , but here he is again to torment us . Ably backed up by Ulrich Oystercard ( who has never really impressed round Ashfield in the past ) and Alice Dribble ( who i never recall seeing round Ashy ) . They also have the lesser Bjerre ( who has had good meetings round our place ) and Lewis Blackbird ( who did ok when riding for Scunthorpe last season ) At reserve they have our wee pal , Wee Joe Jacobs , if he's fit and Oliver Greenwood . Our chances rest with our number 1 actually scoring something and our gating improving a notch above lamentable . I'm not too confident about our chances of toppling the Panthers , but i'm willing to be surprised Anyway Sunday's teams , weather permitting , should be Glasgow 1 Kevin W0000lbert 2 Dimitri Berge 3 Rusty Harrison 4 Mark Lemon 5 Theo Pijper 6 Kasper Lykke Neilsen 7 Anders Thomsen Peterborough 1 Son of God ( guest ) 2 Lewis Blackbird 3 Alice Dribble 4 Ulrich Oystercard 5 The lesser Bjerre 6 Wee Joe Jacobs 7 Oliver Greenwood Hope it's on as it's a long day in the Horseshoe Bar if it's off
  11. Son of God replacing Satan's spawn . Much of a muchness , both are capable of going through the card at Ashfield on Sunday
  12. The biggest problem we have up here is the lack of training facilities or even a NL outfit run jointly by Glasgow and Edinburgh . There's enough coaching talent , James Grieves and Kenny McKinna to name but 2 , for it to be a success . For James McBain and Ryan MacDonald to have to travel to Stoke and Scunthorpe is a nonsense , but credit to them for doing it .
  13. ok the former team manager then my point was that it's not a unique situation , if a little undesirable
  14. What exactly do Edinburgh get so right ? Their team manager does the track too . How is the 50/50 draw a total scam ? there was £160 to the winner on Sunday , plus it's run by the supporters club and a percentage of the money raised goes to the club - nothing wrong with that in my book . The bar is only poor at the moment because of the vandalism that destroyed the last bar . The bottles are large bottles of beer , so 3 pound is on a par with anywhere else . There is a lot wrong at the moment and yes it's not ideal that the team manager is driving the tractor , but we cant give up on it .
  15. Ineffective maybe , but that was through no lack of effort . Thomsen especially involved in a couple of terrific races . Their problem is that they cant gate for toffee , but both give their all in every race . Theo did very well in lowering Cook's colours , though he did have some help from Fox who held Cook up for over a lap .
  16. Yeah , Danny emigrated to Australia last November . I'm like you though , i didnt see anything wrong with the track yesterday . Seen a lot wrong with our gating though
  17. That's the thing , all we have is well meaning friends and supporters offering reasons and excuses why our number 1 isn't riding like a number 1 . That wont wash among the support as they suffer one inept display after another . There was a pretty decent crowd there yesterday , ok the weather was decent for a change and it was a derby against the smugs . But 35 points ( and a t/r inflated 35 points at that ) is unacceptable regardless the opposition .
  18. I agree , we've reached saturation level with asking for supporters help . I dont know , do we ask our new sponsors for help ? We have to do something . As it stands we're just as uncompetative as we were last season and can we afford to have another season like last year ?
  19. That was the general consensus at the time . Nobody is suggesting Wolbert is indulging in anything like that , we're all just puzzled and disappointed at how such a good rider at PL level should be churning out such poor displays . There's always one . I dont know , the club i presume . But what happens if we dont do something ? defeat after defeat again and the support voting with their feet . Then what ? Answer me that
  20. We might need to gamble though . As Dorothy says , another season like last year and the doors might shut anyway cause there will be hardly anyone there to watch .
