  1. I hope common sense prevails and there is some speedway held on the Sunday . There will be a few flying into Poland for the weekend , and with absolutely no interest in religious matters , it would be a bummer to be left kicking our heels on the Sunday afternoon . I know the beer's cheap , but i'd rather have some speedway to watch .
  2. I hope so , any speedway to watch on the Sunday would be most welcome .
  3. As a Rangers fan , not getting to a Polish League match on the Sunday because of the bloody pope wont please me one little bit
  4. Spot on Dave . When Glasgow tried to run a junior side , two men and a dog turned out to watch it . Similarly the Dale Devils , though relatively successful , came to an end because it wasn't financially viable to run them with the crowd that would turn out at Armadale on a Saturday afternoon . Seems Newport's NL side is also under some sort of threat too , according to the report in the Speedway Star . We all might bleat about young British riders not getting a proper chance , but when it comes to actually going out to support them - it's a different story .
  5. From memory , at Glasgow , there would be a reserves race with the home and away number 7's and two of the home novices . A good way for the novices to guage their progress . Then you would have the three heats for the rider of the night between the top 6 from both sides , with each heat winner and the fastest runner up progressing to the final . There would be another reserves race before that final . So that was an added 6 races after the 13 heat league match . Which is a bit better value than what we get now . Though there were certain away riders who were packed up and ready for the off not long after heat 13 was over , but generally the second halfs were pretty good .
  6. Thought your lot announced the following year's team in the one go at the end of season dinner/dance thingy .
  7. Scott Nicholls , if anyone deserves another go it's him .
  8. The red button on my washing machine and my microwave give me nothing , what channel's it on ?
  9. A worrying state of affairs , especially with " you know who " to contend with on Sunday . I assume Dicken was awful again .
  10. Calm down folks . So Kevin was sounded out prior to the weekend , big deal . Travis is struggling to sit on the bike at the moment due to a sore arse from last week's crashes . And John was 50/50 for the two meetings , so a guest was a distinct possibility . And as it turned out Joe crashed out yesterday and Kevin was needed . And what a fine job he is doing tonight as well
  11. Yes , but we were helped by having Craig Branney in for Mitchell Davey that day . And don't forget , results were all over the place in the PT . I don't expect lightning to strike twice and i wouldn't be surprised if today's result is something similar to yesterdays .
  12. Bloody hell it doesn't take much for the usual civil war to break out these days . Let's just wish Kevin the best of luck tonight and maybe he'll do a lot better than recent Monarch guests that have donned the stripes .
  13. Will have to see if the supporters club are running a bus . If it is indeed the 4th .
  14. We are at Scunthorpe on the 3rd and at home to the forces of evil on the 5th . Could be a hectic weekend .
  15. Was a bit of a favourite with the fans in his short stint with Glasgow in 2004 . Was told he became very homesick though . During Shane Parker's testimonial in 2005 at Glasgow , Sam Ermolenko was asked what had became of Eric . Sam said he had given speedway up altogether and spends all his time fishing .
  16. Swindon managed to give everybody 24 hours warning about a rain-off
  17. I don't think there would have been too many of us down tonight . I was down in June when the 4-30 downpour called the first staging off - so i would have been distraught had i made the trip down again today . It happens though and will continue to happen until we can invent something to make speedway less at the mercy of the weather .
  18. That's ok , the military will deny everything .
  19. Nah , canny make it tomorrow . Two of my offspring have birthdays this weekend , so i'll be skint
  20. Looks like Lee Dicken will still be out . Could be the same Glasgow side that got that heroic draw at Somerset . Assuming Joe Screen has got over his bout of flu .
  21. Spot on . Hardly Lyon's fault that the form of Britain's bright young things has went back the way alarmingly this season .
  22. My point was aimed more at the totally inept Jim Lynch . You are correct , under Middleditch (if not for a bit of Scandanavian jiggery pokery ) we might have won the thing in 2004 . But Lyon's appointment was pilloried by the EL brigade on here , i think he's doing a decent job .
  23. Well as it turned out , it was a great idea to use Kings Lynn . Perfect race track , packed stadium and a British victory . Doesn't get much better than that . Well done Rob Lyons and the boys . Funny how a team manager , written off by many because he was from the PL , can gel the British side much better than some of his more illustrious predecessors .
  24. Splitting hairs i think mate . Technically you are correct , but when the term " has-been " is used to describe anybody ,especially in a sporting context , it's always in a derogatory way .
