  1. it was the same for the poole A fixture. Horrendous traffic jams kept the crowd down that night.
  2. You can't blame lakeside for not wanting to cancel, their last home meeting was on June 1st!
  3. I feel for you mike, we've all been there. Most of my meetings are local nowadays, and that's the way it's going to stay.
  4. The problem is, if the forecast is dodgy no one turns up to watch it. The fans know that the majority of riders don't want to ride on a wet track. Lakeside will have the same dilemma for tomorrow nights return fixture. The weather looks poor for Friday, so do they stick or do they twist!
  5. If the riders are already in the country, then surely you have to give the meeting every chance to be run.
  6. a lot of people think you look like a monster dave!
  7. second halves have always bored me to tears. As a kid I used to watch them at wembley because there used to be some top riders competing from other tracks. Even at my local track Wimbledon, I gave them a miss.
  8. I thought I paid for 15 heats tonight, not 15 reruns and 15 tractor breaks!
  9. It's a shame about the long bar shads, it was one of my pre meeting haunts. The stadium does have a sparse feeling about it now, the improvements can't come soon enough.
  10. i'm surprised they didn't bring the start time forward by a few hours, just like Len did. There was a decent turn out for a Saturday afternoon meeting.
  11. The weather is looking at bit uncertain at the moment. With England playing, maybe a Len silver type call off is on the cards!
  12. There is no future when the present generation of fans die off. New blood is what this sport desperately needs.
  13. despite the early season problems, belle vue have shown what can be done with a blank canvas. The NSS is a superb race track with wide bends and numerous racing lines. I'm already looking forward to my second visit!
  14. Geographically the best three in one day I went to was long eaton, scunthorpe and Halifax in 1982. I've also done Exeter, weymouth and swindon, peterborough, king's Lynn and Boston, reading, rye house and Wimbledon, king's Lynn, ipswich and hackney.
  15. I was there last Saturday for the lakeside match and the crowd looked very poor. No doubt the result at purfleet on Friday put a few off.
  16. I was surprised to see Jon Cook address the leicester fans at the end of the meeting. I thought it was the job of the home promoter to rally the troops!
  17. i totally agree with you. I often wonder how belle vue managed to overcome the loss of Peter craven in 1963.
  18. Karger's win over masters reminded me of Preben Rosenkilde beating ole olsen at west ham in 1971. The crowd went wild on that occasion as well!
  19. 1971 was a golden year for me as a nipper. Four top flight tracks in london, speedway heaven!
  20. according to the speedway researcher website, he also rode at Cowdenbeath in 1965.
  21. The crowd was decent considering the awful weather forecast. There was a fair bit of dirt down for a change, can some be sent over to rye house in time for Saturday's meeting!
  22. Yet another ultra slick track last night. The shape looks fine, just a bit more dirt please!
