Find it hard to hold a citizen of a country responsible for the actions of its Government, I certainly wouldn’t want to be held responsible for the shower we have governing this country.

Gave up on a club? What a ridiculous statement. The vast majority of Redcar fans and the management of Redcar speedway would say that’s tosh. He took advantage of an opportunity to ride in the top league in the world and circumstances (injury to Woffy) meant he was called up to a meeting on a day when Redcar had a meaningless (in terms of the play offs) fixture. Some Bears fans have already set up a go fund me for him, so they don’t think he’s “given up” on Redcar. Yes it’s awful timing for the Bears (and Belle Vue) but that’s insignificant compared to his health, He’s suffered some horrific injuries and is likely to be in hospital for some time. If you’ve seen the crash you’ll see it’s nothing to do with his riding style and just a speedway accident. Get well soon Charles, a brilliant servant to Redcar speedway.

I think it’s a loophole because the same rider wouldn’t have been available on the assessed average just a few days later. He’s ridden in the UK for a couple of months, in a higher league and is averaging 1.45 more in that league than his assessed average. Glasgow fans getting very defensive about it as if I’m saying Glasgow are at fault. I’m not, it’s the rule that’s at fault.

Yes is the answer. Especially if it was Poole. The issue is that Vlad has ridden over here for a few months and is averaging over a point more than 5 in the higher league, so the loophole allowed a team (Glasgow) in this case to sign him, just before he got his real average. The rule is clearly wrong and needs addressing.

In theory yes, but would have meant dumping a rider whereas Glasgow had a space to fill in their team. Sometimes you have to be “lucky” with how situations arise. Also not sure Redcar have the financial clout of Glasgow to make it happen. Bears were always 3rd favourites in their Play off group, the injury to Charles makes it even less likely now.

Just seen the video and it was pretty horrific. Gutted for Charles and hope he’s not in too much pain.

You’re reference to “shooting itself in the foot” wasn’t about Heat 15 though, or if it was it was so poorly written that the vast majority on here didn’t get your point. Also Jesus Christ wasn’t available for the Pairs either, Polish commitments I believe.

I think giving riders the same assessed average in both leagues is more “speedway shooting itself in the foot” than not letting a rider who hasn’t ridden for a club ride in the Pairs Championship personally.

Think those changes have more of an impact on Redcar than Glasgow, but can’t blame Charles for taking the Polish offer.

Well done to Glasgow - well deserved on the night, they were the best pairing overall. Great effort from Charles and Danny. Good meeting after a slow start.

If the teams rode against each other then the winners of that heat would go through (which is fairer than a coin toss?) Redcar and Oxford didn’t race again each other so it was a coin toss. Seems fair enough to me.

Well they couldn’t use the same rule could they, so I’m not sure what you expect them to do?

Was at the track so haven’t seen any replays of the Wright incidents. Think the fact that both were on the first/second bend of the opening lap saved him. Ref made the calls, not Charles. Decent meeting given the weather we have had and track rode pretty well. Credit to Ben Cook and Chris Harris who were great all night. Well done Charles.

Nicholls and Howarth out now. Replaced by Thomson and Castagna. Real shame about the drop outs but still plenty of good riders around Redcar to make it worth watching.

In theory, any club in this league with an assessed 5 pointer could have made this move. In reality, only a few could afford to do it.

Anyone know if Tarasenko is available for the Championship riders final on Sunday….

Agreed it’s the rule that’s at fault, not Glasgow for exploiting it. Although my comment on getting a financial package together still applies, not many Championship teams could do it.
