Yup, track spares never seemed to be kept in great nick but they were a necessity back in the day as riders generally only had the one bike which was usually transported on a rack across the backs of their cars or on a wee trailer. The only other option, if things went wrong, was to borrow a team mate’s bike. Most riders in those days did their own mechanics too and the only other personnel involved were pushers. Speedway was also only a full time job for very few.

I remember him advising the (troublesome at the time) street bikers to come and vent their adrenaline on the Meadowbank track instead of alienating other road users.

Would just need the same two bikes for the whole meeting too……lol

Not the best comparison though……..Stock Car racing isn’t a professional sport. Only the best over a season get a financial bung as far as I know so not anywhere near the expense of running a Speedway club.

I think you’re basing your assumptions on the remarks of a few of the usual sceptics on this forum. Harris, to my mind, is still very much a class act and puts many bums on seats. Entertainment is what speedway is all about (or should be)….and he is still the king of that.

Now I’m worried he might be coming to Glasgow instead of the much predicted Vissing…………..

Strange that no names are yet on the Glasgow section of the Speedway GB 2023 team signings. Did this happen last year as well?

Would have Rasser in the blink of an eye…..loved watching him and had a great style too. Sam had some good ones but really tailed off when the track slickened…..needs the dirt.
