Yup, track spares never seemed to be kept in great nick but they were a necessity back in the day as riders generally only had the one bike which was usually transported on a rack across the backs of their cars or on a wee trailer. The only other option, if things went wrong, was to borrow a team mate’s bike. Most riders in those days did their own mechanics too and the only other personnel involved were pushers. Speedway was also only a full time job for very few.
