  1. With the way things are going I cannot see us finishing the season, I was really surprised we started in all honesty .

The promotion may have good intentions but need a sound business plan , this has not been helped by the weather and the BSPA.

Klindt didn't like the conditions, they didn't seem to bother Chris Harris, Ty Proctor, Richie Worrall etc so yes, I agree on that score, it's not a good example to set to everyone else?

I thought at season start that if "all" our riders did what they average and maybe improve on it a bit we would seriously upset a lot of this league's teams and the way we seemed to be going it was going to be well better than even that!!

But for seemingly no good reason we have gone back to the form of seasons past, losing poorly away and performing moderately at home, no way will that bring in new supporters or get back the old ones? It always appears to be this business of non payment of wages that has been the achilles heel for any type of performance complaint and if it is ever to go away the promotion or, preferably the riders, should state quite categorically that money is not the issue then at least we can put that to bed and concentrate on the "real" reasons behind the lapses in performance, only then I feel will we get to the bottom of it all?

Crowd levels I simply dont see improving because speedway, in my eyes, is a dying sport in this area, far too many blank weekends, too many changes to the norm, too much accomodation of individual rider needs are being put above the welfare of the club, it's all killing the interest in and will eventually kill off the club?

In Britain you cant earn a living from speedway alone so riders go where the money is and spread themselves too thin, something has to give and it's usually British speedway that loses that battle, we will very probably fall victim to that sooner rather than later?

Good points, maybe it’s time we had less foreign riders to cut back on the riders going missing and had a slightly “weaker” teams then at least we might have Speeedway on a more regular basis.

Next year will probably see me visit Belle vue Glasgow and Cardiff for my Speedway fix because there will be no one to take over Workington when this season finally crawls over the line in September.

It's certainly got to the point where overseas riders are more of a liability now than they once were?

Perhaps if they weren't allowed to race for more than two clubs we could get away with them but that is always regarded as restraint of trade and wouldn't be allowed so, what do you do?

This fixture list was drawn up to promote British speedway by not having fixture clashes with double up/down riders, all well and good if this was the only country they raced in....but it isn't and therein lies the problem, overseas clubs get priority over just about any rider riding for any club over here so, why do we pick them in the first place?

I've only managed two meetings this year and this move from the start of July right thru to seasons end of mainly Friday night meetings will probably not see much of my money and if that's the case my speedway will be as far as YouTube video's!!

Completely agree with your last sentence coz the way this club and the sport has imploded over the last three/four years there's no way anyone would be stupid enough to take on speedway under the current climate?

  2. A tough meeting ahead for the Comets after last nights defeat and Glasgow’s big win against Scunthorpe the tigers will be in rampant mood. Hopefully Worky will be firing on all cylinders tonight, weather looking good , warm and muggy.
  3. Fixtures early in the year not helped by the bad weather but still in chaos now!
  4. Another night of great racing at Belle vue, the crowds are there (bank holiday ) if the right race night is used?
  5. Is Mason back in the team or are we using a guest this weekend at Scunthorpe ?
  6. My next meeting at Workington could be in July now......
  7. Tough decision for the ref but I think he made the right one .... and took an age to tell everyone!!
  8. All very well enjoying the result but to stoop to calling opposition riders is just silly.
  9. Well done Workington , another fantastic result away from home.
  10. I thought there might have been a round of applause or some kind of recognition of the passing of the great Ivan Mauger, unless I missed it. Even though he passed away some three weeks earlier.
  11. Another great meeting at Belle Vue, a credit to the sport, some fantastic racing and a good crowd.
  12. Gappmaier was very good , fast and smooth riding.l expected him to score points but not that many, well done Berwick.
  13. Thought it was a decent meet , well done to Berwick they surprised me.
  14. Crowd was average not dire, pretty good for Friday after a 3 week break
  15. So after a near 3 week break we have Speedway back at Derwent Park when the Comets take on one of their oldest rivals the Bandits from Berwick. Workington track their new rider in Bradley Wilson Dean and the Comets should prove to be to strong for the visitors.
  16. Going to Cardiff and Poland this year usually give Cardiff a miss for a year or two to ease the cost, bite the bullet and stay in Cardiff
  17. Some lovely memories of Ivan from Peter Collins and Alan Wilkinson in this weeks Star, the overriding theme seems to be the bike preparation they gained from the great man.
  18. New dates for the rained off meetings against Glasgow are now on the Comets website
  19. Charlie Webster London marathon result 5:36.
