  1. Cool and the weather seems set to play fair too.
  2. OK all politics aside surely most of us are looking forward to this meeting? i certainly am eagerly anticipating it despite the depressing omission of an England pair to cheer on. So good luck to our overseas fans favourites and whilst you'll have that extra enjoyment i'll still heartily enjoy the event too. Incidentally, isn't this the meeting that had riders able to choose gates throughout the meeting and it caused some confusion? Anybody seen any rules and regulations for it?
  3. Why did you withdraw it as surely you will have to re-deposit next time a meeting is on? I can only go how William Hill have done with football for several years. I've seen hundreds of top class matches with a single one-off nominal deposit. If you withdraw that deposit or lose it in a bet and you go to view a live streaming event it won't let you until you put a new deposit in. For my £10 i have got to see not only football but hundreds of other live sports events. Most of them also have detailed live stats. Don't know how much of what i posted at the start of the thread is the case or not with Bet365? I've never ever been aware of that 24 hour rule but maybe that's because once i've placed a deposit i've left it there? I was on the BET365 site several hours ago and at that time, as is the case now at 3am, speedway has it's own tab in the main left-hand column. It's not under motorsports or motorcycling but it's own tab in alphabetical order, just before Tennis. If you click on it the centre section has the main world events and Polish and Swedish leagues (not yet populated obviously).
  4. Superb article and video, thanks for the excellent link. I've just done a search within an online tv guide and it doesn't come up with any results under the CNN listings is this or will this be broadcast on the actual CNN channel?
  5. Lol. OK only important thing i need to know is will it improve the quality of racing?. It will won't it? I'd sell my soul to the devil (again*) if it would. *(ok that was a Jessica Alba request thing)
  6. Don't lock it yet until i've posted last seasons attendance figures for Lokomotiv Daugavpils league matches lol 6,500 6,000 4,300 4,000 6,500 5,000 5,000 4,500 Bear in mind that is not the top level league so no attraction of seeing the world's top riders in action, and also a couple of those matches resulted in expected hammerings of weak visitors and one meeting with the home side having a stripped down team.
  7. Latvia has staged multiple SGP meetings. Also subject to it being upgraded in time Riga is set to host the Latvian GP this year. Lokomotiv Daugavpils currently race in Polish First League with superb attendance figures. They have raced in the Polish Leagues since 2005 and before that in the Russian League from 1995. Guess the above makes the answer to 'is there speedway in Latvia' a yes Ummm see your opening post and topic of the thread
  8. In response to emails i should state that (like Carlsberg lol)* i don't do domestic league racecards as i feel the clubs need every penny they can get from league fixtures and i wouldn't wish to deprive them of even a single programme sale in the event supporters should print out ahead of actually attending a meeting. Having said that Sky themselves used to produce a printable racecard on their website for the televised matches, not sure but it may be a blank one though in which case for television viewers the SCB one is needed. *(i'll refrain from saying but if i did like Carlsberg they'd be.... LOL noooooo i so not going there) JOKE!
  9. To be honest George i don't think the MEN assisted Peter's win other than having to include him in the nominees list in one article. Peter Collins win was all the more creditworthy as he wasn't even mentioned in the original article in the Manchester Evening News. In a later article which stated that George Best had emerged as an early favourite the only mention of Peter was in the list of contenders and no actual comment about him. Incidentally the fans did him proud in the comments section as 19 of the 20 nominated Peter Collins Just to clarify the actual structure of the awards was; "Manchester Evening News readers will now get the opportunity to vote for the nominee they want to take home the sporting legend title for each decade. The winning legend for each decade will be revealed at the awards ceremony on 10th March in front of 400 guests. The event has been created by Manchester PR Consultancy BIRD for the We Love MCR Charity and the money raised will help the charity carry on supporting and improving the lives and opportunities of the people of Manchester."The campaign has been set up in conjunction with the Lord Mayor’s We Love MCR charity and aims to celebrate those who have left a sporting legacy in Manchester and raise vital funds for charity at the same time."
  10. There was already a thread running in the General Discussions section http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=75836 It was more fitting for it to be there as i guess he received the award in the main due to his World Championship win which placed him in the consciousness of the general populace. Admittedly the speedway fans who voted for him would be aware of his feats over the years for his club and the breathtaking entertainment he gave week in week out. I remember posting in the Manchester Evening News when the awards were first ever mentioned the excitement and pleasure he gave to thousands of fans. Absolutely stunning victory for him when you see the full list of rivals for the award. That crossed my mind too
  11. Hmmmm! in addition to his current speedway commentating duties with Sky Sports, Eurosport's GP meetings etc. and the BSI/IMG highlights that could likely mean that we'd all have an extra helping of commentary by Nigel Pearson.......just sayin' lol.
  12. Ouch missed this guess that's a consequence of rarely visiting the forum in the off season waaaaaaah!
  13. Great to see Peter Collins win the 'Manchester Hero of the 70's' ahead of an illustrious field consisting of; 70s Award George Best Denis Law Colin Bell Mike Summerbee Clive Lloyd David Lloyd Farokh Engineer David Watkins The question/poll that was asked was who is Greater Manchester’s greatest sportsman or woman from the last 50 years? The Manchester Evening News asked their readers to decide ahead of a glittering awards ceremony held in front of 400 VIPs at the Hilton Hotel at the first We Love MCR Sporting Legends Awards Dinner.
  14. Hee Hee Certainly more interesting information although i'll be staying with Sky for now anyway. Got to admit i don't find it a problem to find English commentary for a football match on the internet. No you don't get commentary on the terraces but if you pay for tv broadcasting you obviously do expect sound/commentary and ideally in English.
  15. As someone heavily involved in Human Rights and similar fields for many years i've always found passive observers to be a big a cause of defeat as the actual 'enemy'. Sadly it permeates society deeply.
  16. Good on you for mentioning the motorized satellite alternative in case some might want to go down that road, but i'm in agreement with many in that most important first of all is too wait and see if we will get in ENGLISH a broadcast on established channels. When you quote for comparative purposes £504 for Sky are you saying that a motorized dish picks up all of Sky's programming? Also what about other channels on that platform such as MUTV, Premier Sports etc.? Eeeek didn't have a clue what i was paying out annually until doing a rough tally right now and i see that on the Sky packages alone that totals around £900 a year. Therefore your costs look very tempting, however unless every channel that i currently watch in HD is also in HD, and is in English, and never ever has even the slightest glitch then i'd stick to Sky. Don't want to turn this into a technology thread lol but a brief reply would be much appreciated on the access and quality questions. Got to admit i personally certainly wouldn't switch merely in order to see the Swedish speedway as it's readily available via rock steady high quality streams nowadays. Despite no English commentary and the fact it would have to be HD quality in the way that many sports channels web players are, i would certainly strongly consider purchasing an official feed via a Polish or Swedish media company although it is a busy year ahead for me and i can't guarantee being at home every Tuesday until i finalize a couple of things. Then again if any packages included archive access i might change my mind, although even then it all depends on my schedule.of other leisure/entertainment activity i'm planning.
  17. On Friday, the FIM announced officially that the ban on performances of players SGP in the SEC will be suspended until 1 January 2015! Not sure if the rumours are true that the SEC have booked Joan Baez to sing 'we shall overcome' and Rhianna 'i drink to that don't let the ********(censored) get you down' (sorry can't get the above not to be in bold font despite several attempts at editing it) I don't follow the sport so don't know, but do i take it then that road racers (or 'moto' riders/whatever they call it nowadays) are not self-employed? I presume road racing is the overriding attention of most things FIM in the way that football is in the general sporting world. So it would be interesting to know if they have the same employment status as speedway riders - i always presumed they did - or whether it's as i rightly or wrongly seem to infer from your quote above that they don't.
  18. Has anyone heard rumours of the faint possibility of Eurosport taking up the broadcasting of the Swedish League, at least for UK viewers? I only ask because a couple of us have written to Premier Sports and i think i've also seen them quote on the internet somewhere when queried on the Swedish coverage that "It appears that Euro Sport will cover the Speedway as from this year and moving forward." Key word being what speedway 'the' refers to.
  19. Been noting lots of comments in a similar vein and one would think that going on employment laws, precedents already set by the two competitions and many other good points made on here that a court case would result in riders being able to race in both series. However, i fear that the cost of going to court may be prohibitive? although possibly not to One Sport in view of their financial investment. Certainly no matter how much certain riders have been making their dissatisfaction known none of them will attempting to take anyone to court? After reviewing and taking in all views expressed on here and official statements can i ask at this stage what your personal thoughts are on the likely outcome SGP only or riders able to compete in both? The whole situation is truly awful. We had a great boost to the sport and people got to watch it who had never seen it before. I definitely think that the SGP meetings had a boost in the attendances whether they were down on previous seasons or not (as in figures would have been even lower if not for the extra exposure of the sport on tv). Can you imagine football clubs not being able to take part in the European Champions League because FIFA have set up the World Club Cup! There are usually a swathe of great and relatively uncensored opinions in the comments section under each story on Sportowefakty. If you have Google Chrome set to automatically translate a page it does so with the comments section too. I used to read a great Polish forum but i forget it's name now. A quick google should possibly find one or two.
  20. Well done all who managed a simple quick click! and congrats to Tai. It wasn't even a close contest as Tai won by a landslide "The 23-year-old was up against a galaxy of two-wheeled stars from the road racing world, but bagged twice the number of votes notched by any of the other 13 shortlisted riders to become the first speedway winner in the poll’s 56-year history following his World title triumph last year." I wonder if the MCN will start giving more coverage to speedway??? They've always given it scant attention over the previous 56 years!
  21. I just had a look on their Twitter feed and not sure what issue they were referring to but they state they have sold out of the printed version "Inside Speedway ‏@InsideSpeedway Jan 30 @spinneyelan unfortunately we have sold out of the print version." Very poor indeed if they don't reply to you mind.
  22. Just realised a tragedy of immense magnitude, the Premier Sports TV broadcast used to give multiple mentions and also praise for the MiniMax racecards during a programme and that ain't going to happen with Swedish and Polish stations lol lol. Mind you to balance out the Ying and Yang Thing i hear there is at least one tasty lady on the overseas presenting team. Ha! Ha! very good. It's cool, when they won the Treble i swore that if they never won another trophy again that would be fine. They did that in a season of incredible fixture pile-ups, they met the top teams in the FA Cup with ties going into replays and extra-time, plus amazing comebacks in games and then to win the three trophies in such a narrow space of time was staggering. Hopefully it's only a one season blip, other top teams have disappeared for a few years at a time Arsenal, Liverpool etc. Can't help but observe that..... David Moyes spent 11 years trying to get Everton to finish above United. Looks like he's finally going to achieve it. SkySports News are doing a special interview tonight at 6pm asking him all about his achievements. And at 6.01 it's back to the studio. I just heard a news report saying david moyes got stopped for speeding in Manchester. It's believed he won't contest the charges as he told the police that "at this point in time I'll take 3 points from anywhere". We shouldn't be too harsh on Moyes as Old Trafford is a hard place to win a game of football. Several female Manchester United fans have complained that David Moyes wouldn't autograph their breasts. Old Trafford have confirmed that Moyes has only been able to sign one right t## so far this season. I nearly had a car accident last night! I was coming home down a country lane when I nearly hit what appeared to be a frightened rabbit caught in the glare of the headlights. But when I looked closer it was just david moyes crossing the road.
  23. It's the off-season and he knows we all got nothing to do so he gave us an anagram
