British Grand Prix 2012
manchesterpaul replied to willstaxi's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You wouldn't have had to have any interest in motor sports to have enjoyed the tension and marvelled at the manner in which Chris Harris won the British Grand Prix. However, that year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year show, lasting hours?, didn't spare the needed just over ONE MINUTE to show his great and entertaining achievement........errrrrm 'nuff said! As i mentioned elsewhere the other day; The fact that speedway is such a visually exciting sport makes the omission all the worst. I wouldn't mind but most of the general sporting public simply are not familiar with the riders, their characters or their history so that weakens the 'drama' of the personal statement aspect of it all. Whilst unlike a decade ago most people now are aware of what speedway is, mainly thanks to Sky, i notice that a lot of websites including the very large official ones do feel the need to have a section invariably called 'What Is Speedway'. Admittedly they are usually well worded and do make the sport sound exciting. Even though we hear it ad nauseum i still love the phrase 'No brakes, no gears, no fear'. Many outsiders to the sport even though they know what speedway is are unaware that the bikes have no brakes and such a fact invariably raises an eyebrow and interest. -

Just noticed that the two legs of the final are staged on consecutive days. With September not being the driest month of the year am i right in thinking that if the first leg is rained off the second leg becomes the first?. Has this happened in the past in the event that the final was staged on consecutive days or a day inbetween? (ouch back with the bold font again grrrRRRR lol) -

Great news whether you love him or loathe him.......Tomasz Gollob has said he IS riding tomorrow despite being in pain as it's such an important match for the team. Many reports are still insisting that rider replacement will be used for Dennis Andersson. Hammarby seem to be unaware of the rule that Ghostwalker quotes and we have to hope we don't get a situation where the match goes ahead and then get a post-meeting protest with a change of result. I'll put a racecard online within the next half hour. However it's likely to be a case of watch the space for amended cards. UPDATE AVAILABLE NOW MiniMax Racecards Swedish Play Offs Q-Final 1st Leg, Hammarby Vs. Indianerna http://speedway.manchesterpaul.net/racecards.html Footnote: Yessssss! lol i've been able to post without it being in bold font. Try as i might last night my earlier post refused to display on normal font. Reposting, removing, copying and pasting into the bare notebook application and back again etc made no difference. -

Sky's standings show Bjarne Pedersen on 40pts despite the fact that before the meeting he had 41 and scored 2. I make that 43! Anyway, you know what, do i care? noooooo because Thank You Sky for providing us with a chance to witness yet another marvellous GP. Although it's not a freebie i do pay a hefty fee for ALL of your channels lol. -

If i was in my apartment rather than my house i'd just hang my rear end out the window and fertilise the flowers lol. I know most of you haven't a clue who Jimmy Johnson is but he sure extracted (don't ask) and passed on his Golden Horseshoe to Greg Hancock. Once again a rival totally messes up a chance to make major inroads on his lead, poor show Nicki. -

Ouchee i got to pop outside, will pump up the volume so i can hear what's going on lol. Be back for the semi-finals for sure. Surely for once, and absolutely nothing against Greg, but let's see if for once his rivals can take advantage of his possible non-appearance in the latter stages to close the gap. -

We all know of the 'commentator's curse', but you nearly fell victim to the 'forum commentor's' curse then in heat 16 lol too funny. I don't dislike or ridicule Harris at all. Like i said recently after his true sporting heroics in winning at Cardiff and more to the point the manner in which he won, i treat him in the same way as when Manchester United won the treble........if they never won anything again i'd be fully sated and wouldn't care and for anything else they win it's sheer bonus to be enjoyed. -

Not against Harris though, more the commentary team going to the lengths of working out how he can qualify. Soooooo love it if they prove to be right but extremely unlikely. Looks like, if he wasn't already, Crump out of the World title race now. -

Harris needs to do a Gollob and fulfill the Sky commentators permutations by winning his last two races! Heat 14 brings back the chopping and changing racing. -

What a shame for Crumpie and the competition. The more riders bunched together in the race for the championship the better, he's lost a hefty three points there. Looks like it's all down to Scotty to keep local Brit interest going in the knock-out stages of the meeting. The racing gets more cut throat the nearer we get to the end though. He's got Lindback, Holder and Vaculik in his next one too. -

Sky commentators extracting every last grain of hope. They saying Harris now needs two wins from his last two races, although 8 points isn't always enough but he would have two race wins to help him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reality Check needed for anyone? -

It would appear for the moment (certainly with the current ticket prices) that around 40,000 is it's ceiling. -

Very entertaining start. Hope our overseas friends aren't having trouble accessing streams seems a little quiet so far. Not everyone has access to Sky or the Polish channels. Not sure if everyone can access/purchase the official stream? I've not checked that out. Wow superb second race too. -

Got to admit it's a great spectacle, such a pity it's criminally ignored and not bestowed with the überhype that other 'lesser' media favoured events get. Anyway's thanks to IMG for giving us what we've got and Sky Sports for letting us see what we've got. -

Lol very good indeed. Thankful for any speedway track myself even if uncovered and in a field in the middle of nowehere (have i just described the majority of speedway tracks the world over!). Alas in the modern age sporting spectators have become used to and demand luxuries similar to an evening at a high class theatre lol, or not far off. Wow, why Freddie? -

Roof is closed, ahhhh if only tracks such as Vojens and many others had that option. -
Wow thought you had actually come across the pond then and were physically in Cardiff. Then i realized you said 'we' as in a general reference to all and also i'm at home watching on telly lol. Close call though and thank goodness for 'Sky Go' as for first time i can recall my Sky signal was intermittently going on and off due to patches of freaky weather moving across the country. Seems to have settled down now though, but got Sky Go on standby, it's a fantastic qulality stream available to Sky TV subscribers. Yeah i realized that once i had posted regarding the ink joke lol. I decided the red was a little too dark and lightened it, as with the blue to a smaller extent. OK everyone is settled in front of tv or pc with the preferred racecard of their choice (all cool and right), can't wait for this meeting hope it doesn't fall flat.
