  1. Is live Speedway from Sweden going to be shown on Premier sports this season?
  2. Chris Harris changes bikes and gets a second in Heat 13
  3. Mr Snackette you really are a wit or have I only got half of that right
  4. Very suprised that nobody has mentioned John Louis. He most be the longest serving club man with services to Ipswich as a rider from 1969 until 1980 then team manager 1985-86. The present promoter from 1989 . Over 30 years .Surely nobody can match this?
  5. Unfortuneatly they will not as time passes the memory dims. Peter Craven won his second World title in 1962 which in 20 years time will be 70 years ago. Now take today how many people would name any sportsmen from 70 years ago(i.e 1942). Could anybody remember who were world champions in 1942 in any sport. Nevertheless Peter Craven was a great champion and only one of two Britain's who were world champion twice
  6. We sat on the 5th row back on the fourth bend and were covered in shale. So after two races we just moved into the home straight stand. Nobody bothered us so we stayed there for the rest of the meeting.
  7. I think think the local council allow Foxhall Stadium 55 Motor Sport meetings a year and if the P and P was open to the public it would constitute one of those meetings.
  8. The Speedway base in UK is much bigger that Sweden yet they have two GP's and one Ullevi is not a permanent track either. Plus the gate in Goteburg has nearly halved in the last three years. and has lost money in all those three as well. I find the thought of not being able to get a five figure plus gate at a 2nd UK GP impossible to believeThe money that a live three hour GP should generate ,I say should not be a problem to holding one anywhere.London.Coventry,Ipswich or Peterborough
  9. My point is I am perfectly happy with the Cardiff GP but have a second UK Gp in London. It seems odd that two GP's in this country would be a bigger gate than any two in any other country even Poland. If the GP's were a couple of months apart the London GP would not affect the Cardiff gate and then everybody would be happy
  10. So why do the GP's go to Vojens and Ullevi then Two of the places where a meeting can be called off because of the weather. Goteburg(Ullevi) has 163 days when it rains on average per year so why risk millions as you say having a GP there. A far bigger risk than Wembley or the Olympic stadium.
  11. This years team has been picked with one aim in mind and that is for Ipswich to get back in the Elite League. What potential the club now has to take the Premier League Championsship and get back to top level and race against teams that are not 3/400 miles away .Bank holiday fixtures against King's Lynn again . Chris keep up the good work
  12. Sorry to disagree with you but nearly all the national papers were involved with Speedway. Did not the Sunday Despatch sponsor the World Championship at Wembley for many years. Then what about the Daily Express Spring Classic meetings at Wimbledon. Then there was the Daily Mirror sponsoring Test Matches.. Back in the 1940 's and early 50' and you were going on a thursday night to Wembley Speedway the Evening News would feature the evening's match. Then the EN was a broadsheet and the whole back page would be about that evenings meeting with heat detail ,pictures and profiles. During that time the national papers morning editions would have last night's results and point scorers and a write up of the match itself. You have to remember during that period Speedway was as popular as football
  13. Philip I could as I lived in Wembley ,but I cannot understand what you are trying to say
  14. Today Thistle Hotels offer per room not per person Thistle Hotel Heathrow-£42 Thistle Hotel Barbican-£54 Thistle Hotel Bloomsbury Park-£66 Thistle Hotel Westminster-£72 That's from £21 per person per night.
  15. No way will Jarek Hampel be World Champion next year. Although one of the fastest starting riders at the moment in GP's he has too many races when he is asleep at the start. It will always help him with the slick tracks but they are not going to be all like that.. When you get a deep track he is not the same rider
  16. There is always something going on in London be it Shows, Exibitions , Sporting Events , Pop concerts yet there are hotels (3 stars) advertising for £30 per night at this very moment.
  17. ease their prices for a GP weekend. With the greatest of respect , like for like it is cheaper to stay in a Hotel in London than Cardiff. The reason is most of the hotels in London cater for Business people from Monday to Friday and would be nearly empty on Fridays and Saturdays so there are plenty of special offers from firms like Holiday Inn, Hilton etc. Take the other way round ,nearly all the hotels increase their prices in Cardiff knowing they have a captive audience.
  18. What about Gelschenkirken. It was a abslolute ideal stadium for a GP. Although they had problems with the wet shale why is it never mentioned as a GP site again. I went to the first and only GP there and thought the atmosphere was fantastic but the racing was awful. Was the gate there not 22,000 which is a great gate for a GP. Why is it never mentioned as a possible GP today. There must be other problems why this is not considered plus there is so many ways to get there from the UK
  19. But most stadiums that stage Grand Prix's do not have roofs , so what are you saying Phil. Is there a roof in New Zealand then>
  20. Am I missing something here . Big Fat Dave lands at Heathrow and he is in Cardiff 4 hours later. Wembley is 12 miles away from Heathrow. I wonder if he thinks it would take 4 hours to get to Wembley. Then there is a slight difference in costs. Please go back on my previous posting and tell me where it is more convienent to get to Cardiff than Wembley. Ask the Poles,Danes or Swedes what they would prefer to go to. They cannot even fly to Cardiff direct.
  21. How can it be convienient. Coming from abroad Cardiff has no direct flights from Poland,Denmark,Sweden, Czech Republic or Germany. Wembley is 12 miles from Heathrow with flights from everywhere. Coming from Europe by road Wembley is much better than Cardiff. Taking all the Speedway clubs in Britain perhaps 3 or 4 of them are easier to get to Cardiff than Wembley.
  22. Sorrry woz01, my post was directed to a 2nd GP in this country. I think Cardiff is ideal but I was thinking of a second GP in this country
  23. I wonder if they said that in 1949 or perhaps you thought it was not a gamble then. Surely any world final at Wembley was a gamble with the weather a very big feature . How many Speedway meetings were held at Wembley. Far more than will ever be seen at Cardiff.
