It is a broken wrist. I believe Kyle was signed as a replacement until Nick is fit again.

Theoretically, it's a way of getting to a higher league, yes. But with how things are run in higher leagues, it isn't always possible for riders to move up and onto other things. You can't move on if you aren't given the chance, but you need to keep yourself on show and remind the higher leagues you're there, ready and waiting; it doesn't mean rider's shouldn't expect to earn reasonable money. Whilst it may apply to some rider's, I don't think its necessarily fair to all.
-
I'm not sure what to take from this post; what exactly do you mean? Too many riders in NL trying to make decent money and treating speedway as a hobby? I think I've missed the point you're making. Could you explain further... I'd think it's logical that rider's will want to earn as much as possible, considering it's hardly a cheap sport, and at this level you'd be very lucky to make anything out of it.

Mildenhall V Scunthorpe - N L - Sunday 6th May 2012
rhidassa replied to PhilK's topic in National League Speedway
It's on the BSPA website today: SCUNTHORPE have added Jerran Hart to their National League squad whilst Oliver Greenwood recovers from a broken collarbone. Hart has recently joined the club’s Premier League team and the move enables him to get more meetings under his belt with Greenwood now set to be out for up to six weeks. Saints boss Stuart Parnaby said: “I think it benefits all parties. It takes the pressure off our young lads at reserve, Danny Phillips and Max Clegg, who can just out and do their own thing, without worrying too much about how many points they are scoring. “And once Oliver does return, it gives us options, because Jerran can ride when Stevie (Worrall) or Gary (Irving) are riding in the Premier League and vice versa.” Link: http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.15385 -
With all due respect Malcolm, I was expressing my opinion, which I stand by. Having read through this thread, I'm going to assume reference's to cheating and bitchiness were not directed at me. My opinion is the same for Dudley, though perhaps not to the same extent; I do feel in home challenge matches, if a regular rider is missing, it is better to give R/R to give your regular riders greater opportunity; if a 'guest' rider will become regular is a different matter. I appreciate you have to entertain the public, but dependant on the public, different things may appeal; unless a challenge meeting is a local derby, or the first meeting of the season, realistically it will not be a priority for fans regardless. I assume the point of pre-season challenges is to prepare for the season, rather than to secure the largest crowds (though of course it does need to be financially viable, which I appreciate).
-
Actually I have to agree on this... Though Stoke aren't the only team to do it. In the case of a challenge match if your number 1 is missing, I'd have thought R/R would be best, to give your team extra practise, as the result itself is unimportant really; the important factor is to get the practise in on the track before the league meetings.
-
Wait a minute... I had on my calendar Isle of Wight were at Stoke this night for a NL fixture? I've probably just missed the press release, but how come this date was changed from a NL meeting to a challenge meeting (out of curiosity)?

Heat 01: Warwick, Simmons, Smethills, Kerr, 5-1, 5-1, 69.2 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills Comments: Even break, but the IOW. pair have the run around the outside to lead, with the northern teams guest languishing at the back. IOW by half a lap. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.co.uk Heat 02: Wrathall, Chessell, Mullins, Kenyon, 3-3, 8-4, 73.5 Line Up: Luke Chessell, Rikki Mullins, Adam Wrathall, Adam Kenyon Comments: Wrathall away well, with the IOW pair tucking into minor placings. This race even further strung out, from gate. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Re-Run: Smith, Compton, Cottham, Worrall Ret, 4-2, 12-6, 71.2 Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Steve Worrall, Benji Compton Comments: Cottham rushed into the tapes, and is excluded, almost took his helmet off! Will go from 15m back in the rerun. Re-Run: Smith was squeezed into the 1st bend but just about got his nose in front to lead, before Worrall had a big moment wall of death style on the 4th bend! He then retired on the 2nd bend next time round, leaving Cottham to chase Compton hard, only to miss out by half a bike on the line. Sponsored by Heat 04: Birks, Starke, Mullins, Kenyon, 3-3, 15-9, 70.7 Line Up: Paul Starke, Rikki Mullins, Ashley Birks, Adam Kenyon Comments: Mullins gates well, but is overtaken by Birks around outside, before Starke goes past him as well. At least 50 feet between riders, dull, from gate. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Smith, Smethills, Cottham, Kerr Fx, 4-2, 19-11, 74.8 Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills Comments: Lively start from Smith, who makes the gate, then gets some unwelcome drive and almost careers straight into fence! Manages to use the speed though to squeeze around the Northerners to lead. Kerr and Smethills almost come together on 4th bend, before Kerr comes a cropper next time around. Kerr up and ok. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Warwick, Birks, Simmons, Wrathall, 4-2, 23-13, 70.1 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Ashley Birks, Adam Wrathall Comments: Warwick away well on the outside, with Simmons fighting through to join him at the front, coming off bend 2. Birks not far away, but comfortable for the IOW, until Simmons chucks it wide on the last bend, almost stacks it, and loses 2nd on the line! Sponsored by Heat 07: WORRALL, Compton, Starke, Chessell, 1-8, 24-21, 71.9 Line Up: Paul Starke, Luke Chessell, STEVE WORRALL, Benji Compton Comments: Steve Worrall out on a Tactical Ride. The Northerners gate, and Worrall clamps Starke on the inside line to stop nipping up the inisde, to give max points to the visitors. Worrall away and clear, and although Starke gets alongside Compton twice, he just misses out, a big 8-1. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Warwick, Smethills, Chessell, Kenyon, 4-2, 28-23, Line Up: Danny Warwick, Rikki Mullins, Lee Smethills, Adam Kenyon Comments: Mullins gates well, but its Smethills who leads into the back straight, with Warwick right on his tail, before pouncing on the 1st bend, lap 2 around the outside. Mullins clear of Kenyon at the back. Sponsored by Heat 09: Birks, Smith, Wrathall, Cottham, 2-4, 30-27, 69.9 Line Up: Rob Smith, Gary Cottham, Ashley Birks, Adam Wrathall Comments: This time Cottham misses the tapes, but also the start, as Birks surges clear. Smith does well to split them to get up into 2nd, but its another heat advantage to the combined team. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Worrall, Simmons, Warwick, Compton Ret, 3-3, 33-30, 71.4 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Steve Worrall, Benji Compton Comments: Warwick get the break on the inside, but its Worrall around the inside who leads. Warwick going inside, the outside to try and get past, whilst Simmons sits patiently in 3rd. Warwick then starts to fall back and look nervously over his shoulder, but he keeps going to get 3rd place.. Sponsored by Heat 11: Smethills, Kerr, Chessell, Starke, 1-5, 34-35, 74.5 Line Up: Paul Starke, Luke Chessell, Lewis Kerr, Lee Smethills Comments: Scrappy gate, but its the visitors who lead, and neither Chessell or Starke can decide who's going to challenge, the IOW relinquishing the lead. Sponsored by Rain now starting to fall so will be no interval. Heat 12: Worrall, Smith, Wrathall, Mullins, 2-4, 36-39, 73.1 Line Up: Rob Smith, Rikki Mullins, Steve Worrall, Adam Wrathall Comments: Good gate from Worrall, with Smith in 2nd and Wrathall completing the away heat advantage. From gate. Sponsored by Heat 13: Re-Run: Starke, Simmons, Wrathall, 5-1, 41-40, 73.7 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Paul Starke, Lewis Kerr, Ashley Birks Comments: Birks away well on outside, but Simmons goes past on outside, but then coming into the 1st bend next time round, Birks takes Simmons front wheel away, Simmons fortunate to be ok with only a shake of the fist after he jumped up, whilst Starke and Kerr were also lucky to avoid the carnage. Birks annoyed with the decision as he shrugs his shoudlers going past the ref! Birks excluded for the re-run. Kerr's bike carried back to the pits with a buckled wheel. Re-Run: Wrathall in for Kerr who believe has withdrawn from the meeting with an injury from the fall. Wrathall gated and clamped Simmons on the inside, with Starke running wide, but both IOW riders passed by 3rd bend. From gate. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Compton, Wrathall, Chessell, Cottham, 1-5, 42-45, 76.2 Line Up: Gary Cottham, Luke Chessell, Benji Compton, Adam Kenyon Adam Wrathall Comments: Wrathall in for Kenyon. Cottham gates from outside, but runs even wider, and is relegated to 3rd. Track getting greasy now, as Cottham and then Chessell both have moments trying to bridge the gap to our opponents. Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Birks, Worrall, Starke, Warwick, 1-5, 43-50, 73.2 Line-up: Paul Starke, Danny Warwick, Steve Worrall, Ashley Birks Comments: Isle of Wight take gates 1 & 3. IOW away well, but the Saints (finally seen there nickname) go either side of the IOW pair to put the gloss on a good win for them, in difficult conditions. From gate. Heat 01: Simmons, Branford, Cottham, Baseby, 4-2, 4-2, 70.2 (41-59) Line Up: Nick Simmons, Gary Cottham, Robert Branford, Jack Hargreaves R/R - Aaron Baseby Comments:Aaron Baseby takes the rider replacement ride. IoW make the gate for a 5-1 lead, but Branford goes round Cottham on 4th bend. They both suffer a couple of bumps going through the 1st bend, 3rd time round, but Cottham holds onto a good 3rd place. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.co.uk Heat 02: Baseby, Chessell, Walter, Halsey Ret, 3-3, 7-5, 72.3 (44-62) Line Up: Ross Walter, Luke Chessell, Daniel Halsey, Aaron Baseby Comments: Great gate from Chessell, but he's bumped and battered on the 2nd bend, and the tigers go either side of him, with Walter struggling at the back. However, Halseys bike sounds very ropey going past, and sure enough, stops on the back straight, to gift an shared heat to the IoW. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Re-Run: Blackbird, Starke, Jacobs, 2-4, 9-9, 71.8 (46-66) Line Up: Rob Smith, Paul Starke, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Blackbird Comments: Starke away well on the inside, but Smith and Blackbird got tangled up, but it's Smith that was excluded, seemed like they touched each other and couldn't do much about it, but after a long, and very agitated call from the IoW management, Smith has to go - excluded from re-run. Both up & ok. Re-Run: This time Starke gets clamped on the inside by Jacobs and finds himself last going down the back straight, but he goes round Jacobs on 2nd bend, next time around, before setting after Blackbird, and only just failing. Sponsored by Heat 04: M Baseby, Warwick, A Baseby, Chessell, 2-4, 11-13, 70.5 (48-70) Line Up: Danny Warwick, Luke Chessell, Mark Baseby, Aaron Baseby Comments: IOW gate to a 5-1 lead, but Chessell is passed by both Tigers within half a lap. M Baseby then set after Warwick, who drifted wide on the 1st bend, lap 4 to go past on the inside for the heat advantage. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Starke, Branford, Smith, Blackbird, 4-2, 15-15, 70.9 (52-72) Line Up: Rob Smith, Paul Starke, Robert Branford, Jack Hargreaves R/R - Lewis Blackbird Comments:Lewis Blackbird takes the rider replacement ride. Smith with an absolute flyer, and Starke joined him for another 5-1 position to the IOW but again a tiger pulls one of them back, with Branford going past Smith early on, before Blackbird has a really good go at him, narrowly coming a cropper after a big locker on the final bend. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Simmons, Cottham, Halsey, Baseby FX, 5-1, 20-16, A (57-73) Line Up: Nick Simmons, Gary Cottham, Mark Baseby, Daniel Halsey Comments: Cottham gates, with Simmons moving into 2nd on inside, and then swiftly past Cottham to lead, leaving him open to attack from Baseby, who promptly falls and stays down on bend 1, lap 3, to stop the race, which is awarded. Baseby up & ok. Sponsored by Heat 07: Warwick, Blackbird, Jacobs, Walter, 3-3, 23-19, 70.7 (60-76) Line Up: Danny Warwick, Ross Walter, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Blackbird Comments: Warwick, head down, gates well to lead, with Walter at the back, hoping for an ef. From gate. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Re-Run: Branford, Baseby, Cottham, Chessell, 1-5, 24-24, 70.9 (61-81) Line Up: Gary Cottham, Luke Chessell, Jack Hargreaves R/R - Robert Branford, Aaron Baseby Comments: Robert Branford takes the rider replacement ride. Branford away well, as is Baseby, and just as the Tigers fan in front of me get all excited, the ref (somewhat inconsistently) puts on the red light. Re-Run: More even start, but the tigers get the better of both inside and outside battles to lead, the normally fast starting Cottham getting bogged down. From gate, although Cottham tried hard. Sponsored by Heat 09: Starke, Baseby, Smith, Halsey, 4-2, 28-26, 70.0 (65-83) Line Up: Rob Smith, Paul Starke, Mark Baseby, Daniel Halsey Comments: Both tigers gate, then rear up to let the IoW through, how sporting. Its Starke thats clear, and looking very quick again, whilst Smith fights against Baseby, and loses on the 4th bend, lap 2. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Simmons, Blackbird, Jacobs, Cottham, 3-3, 31-29, 69.8 (68-86) Line Up: Nick Simmons, Gary Cottham, Joe Jacobs, Lewis Blackbird Comments: Good start from Simmons to lead, Cottham seemed to be put off by a rearing and out of control Blackbird inside him to miss his 2nd gate in a row. Simmons stormed clear, from gate. Sponsored by Heat 11: Baseby, Branford, Warwick, Walter, 1-5, 32-34, 70.5 (69-91) Line Up: Danny Warwick, Ross Walter, Robert Branford, Jack Hargreaves R/R - Mark Baseby Comments: Mark Baseby takes the rider replacement ride. Great gate from the tigers, but as Branford clamps down on Warwick, they touch, Warwick has to throttle off to miss the bucking Branford, but the ref just lets them go? Not going to make a difference, as we were never likely to go through from this situation, but hey ho. From gate. Sponsored by Heat 12: Smith, Jacobs, Halsey, Chessell, 3-3, 35-37, 72.0 (72-94) Line Up: Rob Smith, Luke Chessell, Joe Jacobs, Daniel Halsey Comments: Even break, but it's Smith who takes the lead, Chessell trying to cut back underneath the tigers, but not having enough speed. Jacobs pushing Smith hard at the front, and Chessell getting wider and wider trying to take Halsey, just missing out on line. Sponsored by - Interval - Heat 13: Branford, Simmons, Baseby, Warwick, 2-4, 37-41, 69.9 (74-98) Line Up: Nick Simmons, Danny Warwick, Robert Branford, Mark Baseby Comments: Simmons out well, but its Branford who takes the lead, and even super Simmons can't pass him this time, and so ends his max hopes. From gate. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Starke, Blackbird, Baseby, Walter, 3-3, 40-44, 70.9 (77-101) Line Up: Paul Starke, Ross Walter, Lewis Blackbird, Aaron Baseby Comments: Starke away well, but its the Tigers who packed the minor places, with Walter making a better fist of this race, and not finishing too far behind Baseby. From gate. Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Simmons, Branford, Starke, Baseby, 4-2, 44-46, 70.9 (81-103) Line-up: Paul Starke, Nick Simmons, Robert Branford, Mark Baseby Comments: Simmons away well to lead, whilst Starke is nudged wide to be in 3rd place, behind Branford. Starke is winding it on, getting closer to Branford, but misses out to lose by 4 bike lengths, as the Tigers win on the night as well, congrats to them against Stoke. c/o BSPA: ISLE OF WIGHT: ISLANDERS V MLDENHALL (KOC) - PREVIEW Tuesday September 13, 2011 Wightlink Islanders face Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the second leg of the National league KO Cup Semi-final tonight with a 7.30pm start time. The Islanders are in a must win situation to extend their season, failure to overcome the 20 point lead the Fen Tigers hold will bring an end to their 2011 home season on the Island next Tuesday 20th September against Sheffield/Scunthorpe and no progression to the KO Cup final against Stoke. Co-promoter Chris Hunt said, "I'd just like to see a good performance, it would be disappointing to lose, I would be really disappointed if we don't put up a fight. If everybody does their best then that is all they can do and all I can ask." This weekend also sees the Wightlink Islanders travel to Buxton on Sunday afternoon in another rearranged league fixture to take on the Hitmen who the Islanders beat 49-34 early last month at Smallbrook. Hunt added, "It's not impossible but 21 points is a lot, if it were 16 points you might think there was a better chance. It has to be our best performance of the year tonight, we haven't won by 20 points all season so this has to be a special performance if we are to progress." Good to know... and hopefully IOW will announce their end of season do details shortly, so some of us can get time off work booked!
-
I didn't say it didn't. I said I've experienced it a lot at Mildenhall, more so than at other tracks, and thus rather than moan about it every week (other than this one ) chose not to go. I do have friends amongst the Mildenhall fans, and enjoy catching up with them every now and again, it just deters me from attending frequently. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion from my experiences over recent years, and others I've stood with have expressed the same view. I will be attending this Sunday again though, if you want to discuss it with me feel free.. I usually stand in the home straight stand unless its so amazingly sunny that its a sin to stay under shelter.
-
Which is the main reason I rarely attend nowadays; I only attend if its my team, or there's a rider I know/support racing. I've found on visits there are several people who like to cheer and experienced it again Sunday, though nobody cheered when Stefan fell off (fortunately). I find myself too likely to lose my temper when someone cheers at a fall/crash, as it really, really bothers me. The easiest solution for me is to not attend.

Pretty sure I can't make it as got a train ticket to head down South Wednesday night..sorry Mimmo!
