Heat 01: Simmons, Kurtz, Priest, Felton, 3-3, 3-3, 69.1 Line Up: Paul Starke R/R - Nick Simmons, Dean Felton, Todd Kurtz, Luke Priest Comments: Newport gate a 5-1, but Simmons is quickly past Priest on the back straight. Immediately onto the back of Kurtz, before hurtling around the outside of him on the 4th bend, lap 2. Superb. Simmons won by almost half a lap in the end! Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Hill, Baseby, Resch, 4-2, 7-5, 73.7 Line Up: John Resch, Tom Hill, Aaron Baseby, Tom Young Comments: Great gate from Resch, before Hill moves inside the Hornets to join him. Young fell, but remounted. Resch looked to have a problem down the back straight, and let Baseby through, before chasing him down again, strange. Young retired. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Warwick, Priest, Webster, Smethills, 3-3, 10-8, 71.4 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, Tim Webster, Tony Atkin R/R - Luke Priest Comments: Pretty even gate, but Warwick seems to get the drive coming out of the bend to lead, whilst Smethills struggles a bit. Riders seem to be a bit wary early on. From gate. Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: Simmons, Newman, Hill, 4-2, 14-10, 70.3 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Tom Hill, Kyle Newman, Tom Young Comments: IoW again rubbish from the gate, conceding a 1-5, but are on a 4-2 by the end of the first lap, as Simmons again blasts round the outside of the Newport man on bend 4, moments ahead of Hill doing the same thing. Young retired soon after. Great moves from the I.o.W. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Warwick, Priest, Kurtz, Smethills, 3-3, 17-13, 71.4 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, Todd Kurtz, Luke Priest Comments: A rare event as Warwic gets outgated by Priest, but a little nudge gets him underneath and in front of him, before setting off into the distance. Smethills disappointing at the back though. From gate. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Re-Run: Newman, Felton, Baseby, 2-4, 19-17, 72.8 Line Up: Paul Starke R/R - Danny Warwick, Dean Felton, Kyle Newman, Aaron Baseby Comments: Newman with an absolute flyer, which is rightly called back. Re-Run: This time Warwick gets the break, and Felton wins a hard fought battle on the early part of the back straight for an Islanders 5-1, until Newman re-takes Felton on the back straight 2nd time round, just as Warwick retires from the lead! Sponsored by Heat 07: Re-Run: Simmons, Resch, Baseby, 5-1, 24-18, 70.8 Line Up: Nick Simmons, John Resch, Tim Webster Aaron Baseby, Tony Atkin R/R - Tom Young Comments: Simmons makes a gate in his weakest heat, but Resch is stuck at the back. Disaster for the Hornets as Young lost it going into the 3rd bend, causing Webster to lay it down and collide with Young. Yellow exc, to be rerun. Update: Tractor out whilst Webster being checked over. Young up. Update @ 8.34pm: Waiting on ambulances for both riders. Update @ 8.46pm: Ambulances arrived and taking the unlucky Hornets to hospital. Best wishes to both; hope its nothing serious. Re-Run: Young Excluded, Baseby in for Webster. Good gate from the islanders into a 5-1, where they stayed. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Felton, Priest, Hill, Baseby, 4-2, 28-20, 72.6 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, Luke Priest, Tom Young Aaron Baseby Comments: Tassles (Hill) away well on the inside with plenty of elbows as well, but Felton and Priest go past on 3/4th bends. Sponsored by Heat 09: Newman, Warwick, Smethills, 3-3, 31-23, 71.3 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, Kyle Newman, Aaron Baseby Comments: No Baseby in Yellow; 3 riders only. Smethills away well, with Warwick at the back. Newman gets past Smethills on back straight, as does Warwick on 4th bend. Warwick really flying into bends to catch Newman, but to no avail. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Newman, Smethills, Felton, Baseby, 3-3, 34-26, 71.1 Line Up: Paul Starke R/R - Lee Smethills, Dean Felton, Tim Webster Aaron Baseby, Tony Atkin R/R - Kyle Newman Comments: Islanders gate, but Newman spot a gap on the inside to charge through and romp away. From gate, spread out. Sponsored by Heat 11: Simmons, Priest, Kurtz, Resch, 3-3, 37-29, 69.9 Line Up: Nick Simmons, John Resch, Todd Kurtz, Luke Priest Comments: Simmons and Kurtz both rear off the start, Priest gets into first, but again Simmons simply flies around the outside of bend 4 to take the lead, brilliant stuff considering we have seen 2 riders off to hospital. Well clear by the chequered flag. Sponsored by Heat 12: Re-Run: Warwick, Baseby, Hill, 4-2, 41-31, 73.3 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Tom Hill, Tim Webster, Aaron Baseby Comments: No rider in white. Hill touches tapes, goes off 15m in re-run. Re-Run: Warwick away well, too well for Hills liking as he leaves Baseby and Hill to it! Hill getting closer and closer, and gets past on the 4th bend, only to be pipped on the line by Baseby, good race. Sponsored by Heat 13: Simmons, NEWMAN, Kurtz, Felton, 3-5, 44-36, 69.6 Line Up: Paul Starke R/R - Dean Felton, Nick Simmons, Todd Kurtz, KYLE NEWMAN Comments: Newman on a Tactical Ride. Newman away with Simmons in hot pursuit. Simmons feints outside on bend 4, before cutting up the inside on bend 1, and going past on the inside of Newman on back straight, quite magnificent! Fog now really starting to cover the 3rd bend!!! Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Smethills, Baseby, Hill, 4-2, 48-38, 71.7 Line Up: Lee Smethills, John Resch Tom Hill, Tony Atkin R/R - Aaron Baseby, Tom Young Comments: No rider in yellow. Smethills gated, with Hill going wide, and Baseby splitting them. Close between Hill and Baseby going into 1/2nd bend 2nd time round, and Hill falls, but gets up to secure the 3rd point. Got his tassles dirty there! Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Simmons, Warwick, Newman, 5-1, 53-39, 70.0 Line-up: Danny Warwick, Nick Simmons, Luke Priest, Kyle Newman Comments: IOW win toss taking gates 1&3. Fog cleared a little now. Priest away well, but Simmons switches to outside to take the lead. Warwick round Priest as well on 4th bend, before Newman takes Priest on that bend next time round. Newman gettin close to Warwick, but Simmons is away and gone! Priest retired. Sponsored by Deadlock Clothing - www.deadlockclothinguk.com ************************* Comments: Teams confirmed. Before we begin tonight on this seasons final meeting for the Islanders, I'd just like to say its been fun updating most of the Isle of Wight home meetings this year, so thanks to Rusty for the updates and those people (that behaved ) who have joined me throughout the year. Not a good sized crowd, sadly! Dry day on the Island getting chillier tonight.. track is well watered. Thanks to Rusty for the updates and well done on the Islanders for winning, and Newport for putting on a good effort with only 4 team members left. Hope Tim & Tom are OK. And for this season, it's goodbye to the Islanders... Reminder for IOW fans that the end of season do is on Saturday October 9th. © 2005-2010 All meetings are copyrighted to Speedway Updates, permission must be sought and we must be fully credited before they are used elsewhere.

Updates can be found here. If you happen to see them prior to tomorrow, Main Man, please feel free to correct any line up mistakes

And not much about it, but Newport visit the Island, on what I believe is the Islanders final meeting of the season... Will be updates in the usual place. Any thoughts, comments, opinions, etc, or is that being overly optimistic?

Wildcats V Isle Of Wight Islanders 17/09
rhidassa replied to stressed's topic in National League Speedway
Here's hoping its a safe meeting for all involved... with the Islanders doing well. Also believe the Updates are looking for a texter for this meeting... Please let Crazy Sue or Islander know if you can do them / post here. Thanks -
It happened and got rained off with 3 heats to go. There were no updates, though to be honest I think there was little interest. It was the Summer Spectacular... there were a few falls but no injuries.. at first anyway, and that's all I know. I'm sure Bryn will give a full update, which I too look forward to seeing.

Glad I finally got to a NL fixture! An enjoyable meeting. I will be comparing the racing to the PL meeting tomorrow, so we'll see which one gets voted as having the most entertaining racing.

Heat 01: Starke, Hughes, Felton, Hazelden, 4-2, 4-2, 69.6 Line Up: Paul Starke, Dean Felton, Kyle Hughes, Lee Strudwick R/R - Shane Hazelden Comments: Starke away, with Hazelden making a bit of a hash of it. Track a little patchy early on with the weather being threatening. From the gate. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Hazelden, Hill, Resch, Stokes, 3-3, 7-5, 72.5 Line Up: John Resch, Tom Hill, Tom Stokes, Shane Hazelden Comments: Hazelden this time gates, but Stokes is left well behind. Very tight at the front, Hill passing Hazelden on the 1st bend, lap 2, only to go too deep, and for Hazelden to retake the lead. Hill never gave up, but ran out of laps, Resch in third. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Warwick, Smethills, Owen, Mason, 5-1, 12-6, 71.5 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, David Mason, Marc Owen Comments: The IoW gate, whilst Mason seems to turn right at the bend! Texter missed rest of the heat so no more comments for you people this race! Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: Simmons, Jacobs, Hill, Hazelden, 4-2, 16-8, 69.8 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Tom Hill, Joe Jacobs, Shane Hazelden Comments: Jacobs got away well, but Simmons had the outside line, and took and easy lead down the back straight. Hill quickly onto Jacobs, but the former Mildenhall man too quick for him. Hazelden pottered around at the rear. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Smethills, Warwick, Hughes, 5-1, 21-9, 71.6 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, Kyle Hughes, Lee Strudwick R/R - David Mason Comments: IoW away well, with Hughes doing a wall of death around bend 2! He then started to pressure Warwick, with Smethills looking like he might be slowing them both down, but IoW held on for a 5-1. Mason retired when last. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Starke, Jacobs, Felton, Stokes, 4-2, 25-11, 69.8 Line Up: Paul Starke, Dean Felton, Joe Jacobs, Tom Stokes Comments: Again Stokes left at the tapes, but Starke makes no mistake in taking the lead, Felton looking a little weary in third, almost clattering the fence wide on turn 3 first up. Rooney!!!!!!!!! From tapes. Sponsored by Heat 07: Simmons, Mason, Resch, Owen, 4-2, 29-13, 70.5 Line Up: Nick Simmons, John Resch, David Mason, Marc Owen Comments: Simmons gates clear, to leave Resch in 3rd, and chasing Mason in 2nd. Owen closer to Resch by end of race though, just holding on for the point. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: JACOBS, Hill, Hazelden, 2-7, 31-20, 70.5 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, Lee Strudwick R/R - JOE JACOBS, Shane Hazelden Comments: Joe Jacobs taking a Tactical Ride on his Rider Replacement. Jacobs with a sluggish start, but Hazelden did well initially to slow up the IoW so Jacobs could hit the front, but Hill got past Hazelden into 2nd. Felton struggling at back with visibility problems maybe? Felton retired. Sponsored by Heat 09: Warwick, Smethills, Jacobs, Stokes, 5-1, 36-21, 72.2 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Lee Smethills, Joe Jacobs, Tom Stokes Comments: A nervous twitch by Warwick does him no harm, as he takes the lead, able-y assisted by Smethills at the front, these two looking like they enjoy each others company! Jacobs trying hard, but he must be cream-crackered! Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Starke, Felton, Owen, 5-1, 41-22, 71.4 Line Up: Paul Starke, Dean Felton, David Mason Tom Stokes, Marc Owen Comments: Tom Stokes taking a reserve ride for David Mason... Starke with soo much drive from the tapes to lead an IoW 5-1, with Stokes falling off between bends 3 and 4. From gate. Sponsored by Heat 11: Re-Run: Simmons, HUGHES, Resch, 4-4, 45-26, 70.1 Line Up: Nick Simmons, John Resch, KYLE HUGHES, Lee Strudwick R/R - Shane Hazelden Comments: Kyle Hughes on a Tactical Ride. Very interesting first bend, firstly as Simmons and Hughes had a ding dong battle for 1st place, Simmons immediately heading for the dirt and getting his nose in front along the back straight, before losing the initiative going into the 3rd bend. Meanwhile, Resch picked up some good drive off the 2nd bend to go under Hazelden, which took him by surprise and led to him meeting the fence! Hazelden stayed down, but was excluded from the re-run, before getting gingerly to his feet and walking back to the pits. On the warm down lap, Hughes bike made some funny noises going into the first bend, and almost caused him to go into the fence as well! Re-Run: Simmons with a smart first bend, just edging ahead of Hughes, and leaning heavily to stop his run up the inside. From gate. Sponsored by David Mason withdrawn feeling unwell. Heat 12: Hill, Warwick, Hazelden, 5-1, 50-27, 73.1 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Tom Hill, David Mason Shane Hazelden, Tom Stokes Comments: Shane Hazelden in for David Mason. It's like shelling pea's at the tapes for the islanders, scorching away for a tapes to flag 5-1. Hazelden slowed on bend 1, lap 4, and when Stokes got near him, he reared off, leaving Stokes to fall over and look very unhappy and embarrassed! Stokes retired. Apparently the Rye riders saw some brakelights in the car park, which caused them to slow. Not sure, think Hazelden wanted his point and sped off when Stokes tried to go past! Sponsored by -- Short Interval -- Heat 13: Hughes, Simmons, Starke, Jacobs, 3-3, 53-30, 72.0 Line Up: Paul Starke, Nick Simmons, Kyle Hughes, Joe Jacobs Comments: Hughes away quickly, and holds off Simmons for the first lap really well, but Simmons keeps the pressure on, narrowly missing out on the win. From the gate. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Smethills, Owen, Resch, Hazelden, 4-2, 57-32, 71.7 Line Up: Lee Smethills, John Resch, Marc Owen, Shane Hazelden Comments: Smethills away around the outside for the lead, with Resch going past Hazelden down the back straight into 3rd bend. Track starting to dust up now, but luckily no sign of rain (cue the thunderstorm). Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Simmons, Starke, Jacobs, Hughes, 5-1, 62-33, 70.9 Line-up: Paul Starke, Nick Simmons, Kyle Hughes, Joe Jacobs Comments: Isle of Wight taking gates 1 & 3. Starke and Simmons gate, and although Jacobs briefly challenged Starke at the end of the first lap, the I.o.W. held out for the win, to record their biggest win of the season. Sponsored by Deadlock Clothing - www.deadlockclothinguk.com ************************* Comments: Teams confirmed. Thanks to Rusty for the updates & to everyone for watching. Hope Mason feels better soon and those that had falls aren't too sore! BOURNEMOUTH: KING'S LYNN V BUCCANEERS (NL) - PREVIEW TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 07, 2010 2009 Bournemouth Buccaneer Danny Warwick will pull on the red and white colours one more time as he guests for the injured Jerran Hart in Bournemouth's crucial away meeting at King's Lynn on Sunday (12th September) If the Buccaneers are to have any hope of being able to defend the title that they won last year then they must win in Norfolk, their final match before the deadline for the play-offs and hope that other results go in their favour. Currently they are level on league points with Plymouth (27 each) just two points clear of Rye House. The Plymouth Devils visit unbeaten-at-home-Dudley on Wednesday whilst Rye House visit Isle of Wight (tonight, Tuesday 7th September) and then stage a home meeting against play-off certaintities Newport on Saturday, so by the time the Buccaneers arrive at King's Lynn they will know precisely what is required of them. Should Rye House manage to secure maximum points from their two matches then Bournemouth would be unable to catch them The choice of Warwick would appear to be an inspired move as the Poole-based rider scored paid 13 for Bournemouth in their 27 point league win at Saddlebow Road last season. Team Manager Garry May explained his choice "Danny goes well on the bigger circuits and I believe that he can do a job for us on Sunday. We are really determined to pull this off, the lads just want to go out and there and get a result. I am also hoping that Danny can help our cause even more by inspiring his Island team-mates to a home win over Rye tonight, we can't afford the Cobras to close in on us much more. It will be tough enough needing to win against King's Lynn by any score, if it comes down to it needing to be a win by more than 6 than that just makes it so much harder." Teams (from) King's Lynn - S.Lambert, O.Rayson, L.Kerr, A.Lowe, D.Mallett, S.Campos, J.Knight Bournemouth - D.Warwick, K.Howarth, A.Baseby, J.Brundle, M.Baseby, J.Sarjeant, D.Stoneman

Isle of Wight winning the toss, taking gates 2 & 4. Heat Results Heat 01: McKinna, Halsey, Starke, 5-1, 5-1, 70.9 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, Adam McKinna, Daniel Halsey Comments: Smethills away well, but Starke stuck on outside and got filled in, before the Wildcats swamped a slowing smethills on back straight. Track a little tricky early on, so the islanders attempts to pass were sadly thwarted. Smethills retired. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Re-Run: Hill, Felton, Andrews, Cottham, 5-1, 6-6, 73.9 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, Richard Andrews, Gary Cottham Comments: Yellow demolishes tapes, so Richard Andrews will go off 15m in the re-run. Re-Run: Andrews made the gate, and held off Hill on 2nd bend, before pulling a huge locker on the 3rd bend, letting (miraculously) the I.o.W. pair through either side of him!! Well clear after that, Cottham with no impression after the handicapped start. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Warwick, Brown, Mason, 3-3, 9-9, 70.3 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Tom Brown, Karl Mason Comments: Both number 3's away well, but Warwick had the run with the outside line to take the lead. Johnson struggling at the back, but getting closer and closer to Mason, before sliding off into the deep stuff on the last bend. Up and ok though. Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: Simmons, Cockle, Hill, Cottham, 4-2, 13-11, 70.7 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Tom Hill, James Cockle, Gary Cottham Comments: Cockle gated, with Cottham behind him, but Simmons sliced through them on the 2nd bend for 2nd place. Hill then passed a struggling Cottham, before Simmons with an immense turn of speed rounded Cockle on the 2nd bend, lap 3, before clearing off to win by 15 bike lengths! Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Warwick, McKinna, Halsey, Johnson, 3-3, 16-14, 70.7 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Adam McKinna, Daniel Halsey Comments: Halsey left at the tapes, but Warwick makes no mistake to pull clear. Halsey makes up for his poor gate though by overtaking Johnson on the last bend. He tried to go up the inside of him on the last bends, but ran out of legs. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Smethills, Starke, Cockle, Andrews, 5-1, 21-15, 72.0 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, James Cockle, Richard Andrews Comments: Cockle with a tremndous start, but overhauled by Smethills on 2nd bend. Starke joined the party as Cockle went too wide on 3rd bend into the deep stuff, which allowed Starke to move inside him. Cockle coasted round last bends, still too far ahead of Andrews. Sponsored by Heat 07: Simmons, Mason, Felton, 4-2, 25-17, 71.2 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Dean Felton, Tom Brown, Karl Mason Comments: Even start, but Simmons on the inside got 'taken by Mason. Brown, a shadow of himself from years gone by here, then took a tumble into the 4th bend fence, but was up in time to see Simmons overtake Mason on the 2nd bend, around the outisde, another superb captains move. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Halsey, Cottham, Smethills, Hill, 1-5, 26-22, 72.9 Line Up: Lee Smethills, Tom Hill, Daniel Halsey, Gary Cottham Comments: Very smart (and only just legal) gate by Cottham, before Halsey joined him at the front. From tapes. Sponsored by Heat 09: Cockle, Warwick, Johnson, Andrews, 3-3, 29-25, 71.2 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, James Cockle, Richard Andrews Comments: Very close start between Warwick and Cockle, who just got the nod, but Warwick is pushing him hard, with Johnson ready to pounce as well. Cockle with too much speed though, 3-3. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Re-Run: Starke, Felton, Mason, 5-1, 34-26, 71.5 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills Dean Felton, Tom Brown, Karl Mason Comments: Lee Smethills excluded under 2 mins, Dean Felton replacing him. Bunching on first bend, Brown on the outside and went down, stayed down (in protest) which didn't work as the ref threw him out. Could've gone either way. Re-Run: Third time lucky, Islanders away, and Felton does a good job to block Mason on the back straight. Moment for the 2 of them on the 4th bend, but they carry on unscathed. From tapes. Mason slid off on final bend, remounts for 3rd place. Nice celebration wheelie from Starke! Sponsored by Heat 11: Simmons, Halsey, McKinna, Hill, 3-3, 37-29, 70.2 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Dean Felton Tom Hill, Adam McKinna, Daniel Halsey Comments: Hill in for Felton. Simmons gated, the swine, so no swoops from the back this time. Halsey, whose ridden very well tonight, and McKinna are passengers, but keep the reserve change Hill at the back. From tapes. Sponsored by Heat 12: Re-Run: Warwick, Cottham, Brown, 3-3, 40-32, 71.1 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Tom Hill Dean Felton, Tom Brown, Richard Andrews Gary Cottham Comments: Felton in for Hill and Cottham in for Andrews. Warwick with his worst gate of season, as Weymouth go first and second. Felton came a cropper on 3rd bend, fell, and is exc. Felton up on his feet and staggering back to pits. May have been an engine problem as cant wheel bike off track? Apparently Felton hit fence with his rear wheel, causing him to fall. Re-Run: All elbows and messing about at start, but the Wildcats tactic doesn't work, as Warwick makes no mistake in the rerun to nail heat 12. Small piece of fortune for the Islanders there, but will it affect Felton in ht 14? Brown coasting at back. Sponsored by - Small Interval with Ray Morton having a spin! - Heat 13: Simmons, Starke, Cockle, McKinna, 5-1, 45-33, 71.3 Line Up: Paul Starke, Nick Simmons, Adam McKinna, James Cockle Comments: Simmons with a stinker of a gate, but cut back under the 'cats, to get into third behind Starke and Cockle. He then went round Cockle on 4th bend with another stunning move, to give the I.O.W. a bit of leeway at the head of the meeting. McKinna lucky at back of race to stay on, doing a very slow, but nonetheless frightening wall of death on 1st/2nd bend! Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: MASON, Cottham, Felton, 1-8, 46.41 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Dean Felton, KARL MASON, Gary Cottham Comments: Karl Mason on a Tactical Ride. Weymouth gate into a 5-1, and stay there, until Johnson tries too hard on 3/4th bend, and hits the fence. He stays down, and the race is awarded, as it was on the 3rd lap. Ambulance out on track. Best wishes to Brendan, hope he's OK! (Updaters comment.) Slight delay waiting for another ambulance to take Brendan to hospital. Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Simmons, Cockle, Warwick, Halsey, 4-2, 50-43, 70.6 Line-up: Danny Warwick, Nick Simmons, Daniel Halsey, James Cockle Comments: Cockle away, Warwick and Simmons fighting inside and out for the lead though. Simmons really winding it on, going wider and wider, until passing him on back straight, lap 3, scrubbing off speed by clipping the fence before cutting to the inside line! In case anyone is interested (I am!) the Isle of Wight End of Season Due will be on Saturday 9th October. Woo haa! Shocker. Since I knew he was planning on leaving before the NL meeting, hardly a surprise. -

You can debate it, but I found the match more entertaining. I'd debate it with you, but to be frank I can't be bothered, as whatever I say you will undoubtedly disagree with anyway. -
Afraid I have never been, but the following from IOW's site: Also re bus to/from the ferry if you went on foot from the Ryde Pier: Info on Wightlink Ferries website here. Sorry I'm not more use! Edit: Thanks for the update, The Abbott. Updates can be found tonight here.

c/o BSPA: Tuesday, the top of the National Trophy Wightlink Islanders face Weymouth, never any love lost between the two teams and this one promises to be no different, a win and we are almost in our first cup final since 2004. Newport went and beat the Cats in Dorset on Friday in a League match, if we can beat them, their chances of catching us will be very slim. They are also without their number one Byron Bekker who crashed heavily against Newport and picked up a shoulder injury, they have a good guest however in Adam McKinna to replace the South African. Bote the home matches start at 7.30pm sharp and big crowds are expected, our advice to fans is, if you want your usual spot, arrive early! Dudley will probably bring a lot of noisy fans, so if all the Island supporters can bring a friend, and can also make a noise, it will make for a great atmosphere and encourage the lads too, said Hunt. Teams: IOW; Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Nick Simmons, Dean Felton, Tom Hill. Weymouth; Byron Bekker, Dan Halsey, Tom Brown, Karl Mason, James Cockle, Gary Cottham, Richard Andrews. Updates will be in the usual place.

To be fair, far from the worst meeting I've seen at Rye House. Better than the PL match. -

Should be there cheering for islanders. -
Alas. I will be away, so unable to attend. NL fixtures always seem to clash with other plans (this is genuine, not a joke!) unfortunately.

Heat 01: Smethills, Starke, Glanz, Pickard, 5-1, 5-1, 70.7 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, Nicki Glanz, Jaimie Pickard Comments: Smart gate from Smethills into the lead, with Starke coming between the devils to take 2nd place. Glanz nowhere near really, and Pickard pretty much stopped on 3rd lap to remove his goggles. Track is a little slippy and wet early on, needs a few heats to settle. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Hill, Felton, Gough, Reade, 5-1, 10-2, 72.5 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, David Gough, Ben Reade Comments: Another good gate from the Island pair, the Devils looking a little tentative. Slight moment on 3rd bend for the I.o.W. as they came close together, but soon romped clear of Gough. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Warwick, Stephens, Bates, Johnson, 3-3, 13-5, 67.9 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Matt Bates, Seemond Stephens Comments: Even break from Warwick and Stephens, but it was Warwick with the outside line who took the lead. Johnson with a bit too much speed on the 4th bend, sliding off before quickly remounting, and almost catching Bates! Warwick absolutely flying away, almost half a lap between him and Stephens, which showed with the 2nd quickest NL lap time, just 0.2 outside the record! Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: Simmons, Simmonds, Hill, Reade, 4-2, 17-7, 69.6 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Tom Hill, Mark Simmonds, Ben Reade Comments: Simmonds away well on a track he seems to love, Simmons close behind. Quickly turned into 2 battles, as they flew clear! Simmons then with a simply superb overtake of Simmonds on the 3/4th bends lap 2, with Simmonds never far away, keeping him screwing it on! Hill in a comfy 3rd. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Warwick, Glanz, Pickard, 3-3, 20-10, 68.5 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Nicki Glanz, Jaimie Pickard Comments: Even away from tapes, Warwick looking to snuff out Glanz, and moved to the outside to really put the hammer down. Johnson unfortunately retired on the 4th bend, lap 1. Easy for Warwick, almost a half lap clear again. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: SIMMONDS, Smethills, Starke, Gough, 3-6, 23-16, 69.1 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, MARK SIMMONDS, David Gough Comments: Simmonds on a Tactical Ride. Simmonds away well on the inside, and although Smethills almost got to him, Simmonds was well clear by the 2nd lap. From the gate. Sponsored by Heat 07: Simmons, Stephens, Felton, Bates, 4-2, 27-18, 70.3 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Dean Felton, Matt Bates, Seemond Stephens Comments: Stephens away, with Felton and Simmons in pursuit. Felton was nibbling at Stephens for the first lap, then Simmons came through to try. Rode round Stephes on 1st bend, lap 4 like he was stood still! Felton not far away either. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Smethills, Hill, Pickard, 5-1, 32-19, 72.0 Line Up: Lee Smethills, Tom Hill, Jaimie Pickard, Ben Reade David Gough Comments: Reserve switch for Plymouth - Gough in for Reade. Normal service resumed, as the islanders gate. Good scrap between Pickard and Gough, until he retired! Hill seemed to struggle towards the end, and only beat Pickard by a bike length in the end. Sponsored by Heat 09: Simmonds, Warwick, Johnson, Reade, 3-3, 35-22, 69.6 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Mark Simmonds, David Gough Ben Reade Comments: Reserve switch for Plymouth - Reade in for Gough. Simmonds away cleanly, Warwick made a bit of a hash of that one! Simmonds showing all of his class from 10 years ago, when he rode for the Island in the premier league, to ride a perfect line for the win. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Smethills, STEPHENS, Starke, Bates, 4-4, 39-26, 70.4 Line Up: Paul Starke, Lee Smethills, Matt Bates, SEEMOND STEPHENS Comments: Seemond Stephens on a Tactical Ride. All elbows from Stephens at the start, which seemed to work as he ws leading into the back straight, until Smethills bumped through the inside of him! Starke all over him like a rash, for 2nd, but just ran out of laps. Sponsored by Heat 11: Simmons, Glanz, Felton, Pickard, 4-2, 43-28, 70.6 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Dean Felton, Nicki Glanz, Jaimie Pickard Comments: Shocking gate from Simmons, but soon into 3rd, then 2nd place and chasing down Glanz in the lead. Another sublime pass from Simmons, going wide on bend 3, before cutting back on bend 4, and carrying the speed up inside Glanz on the 1st bend, for another fantastic win. Felton looking tired at end, but held on for 3rd. Sponsored by Heat 12: Warwick, Hill, Bates, Gough, 5-1, 48-29, 71.8 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Tom Hill, Matt Bates, David Gough Comments: Warwick with his trademark head down and go for it start, just coming out ahead of Bates, and then Hill joined the party on the 4th bend by rounding Bates for 2nd place! Some wild riding at the back by Gough, but was well back. Great celebration by Warwick on the home straight, pretending to do air guitar! Sponsored by Short interval now. Heat 13: Glanz, Simmonds, Simmons, Starke, 1-5, 49-34, 70.4 Line Up: Paul Starke, Nick Simmons, Nicki Glanz, Mark Simmonds Comments: Glanz with a superb gate, and the Islanders are staring at a 5-1 defeat! Starke and Simmons both winding it on, but getting nowhere. Starke with a problem on back straight to let Simmons through, but too late for Simmons to do any damage from the back. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Stephens, Felton, Felton, Reade, 3-3, 52-37, 71.5 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Dean Felton, Seemond Stephens, Ben Reade Comments: Stephens with the drop, Felton tucked in, before Johnson launches through to set after Stephens. And fails. From gate. Sponsored by Splod Heat 15: Smethills, Simmonds, Warwick, 4-2, 56-38, 71.2 Line-up: Lee Smethills, Danny Warwick, Mark Simmonds, Nicki Glanz Comments: Isle of Wight win the toss taking gates 1 & 3. Warwick just with the nod, but very very tight, and him and Glanz tangle and fall. Warwick up & ok. Glanz still down, medic out on track, but all 4 back if Glanz able to take his place. Update - Glanz now walking back to pits. No mistake this time as Warwick and Smethills gate clear, and team-ride well to hold up Simmonds. Glanz retired at end of first lap. Great riding to keep Simmonds behind, and Simmonds almost stuffs it into the back straight fence. Simmonds then up inside of Warwick of 1st bend last lap, but Smethills holds on to inflict a rare defeat on Simmonds. Good racing again.
