  1. PC was involved in the move to Kirky Lane in the beginning, but was ejected by Perrin; it is described in the book.
  2. There was a meeting at Perry Barr some years ago, which simply served to wreck the track. There were potholes for years.
  3. According to today's Speedway Star, the Brummies have 'agreed terms with their first rider for 2023'. I wonder who?
  4. Just finished reading mine. Excellent!
  5. But don't stock car drivers pay to enter?
  6. Not silly money; just that they pay on time!
  7. It was because they supported the riders in their own teams, I think?
  8. Ours worked all right for some time; rebuild cost £800. Like everything else, test it before buying ...
  9. Quite right. And another problem is the chicken-and-egg situation, which also scuppered the 'F2' speedway; why pay £5000 for one of these when you can get a third hand GM for £1500? The same thing will apply to electric bikes,. Unless someone arranges meetings for them with big prizes which will make it worth while to buy them?
  10. I went there in ?1982, when the Brummies had three national champions and a world champion. The Swindon track was like a ploughed field, which really put the home team off!
  11. Thanks. That is a good idea; my second driving lesson was round the West End of London!
  12. Out of curiosity, what is the circle next to the track?
  13. Were'nt they talking about land by Edinburgh Airport once? What happened to that?
  14. "Confound their politiks, confound their knavish tricks" ... Poole would have thought it referred to them! The second verse usually sung ("Thy choicest gifts in store/On him be pleased to pour") is actually the third verse.
  15. Certainly Castagna. James Wright rode very well in the two challenge matches; well worth considering? And everyone has forgotten Justin Sedgmen, who has proved his worth this year. Did you see his ride in Heat 15 last Wednesday?
  16. At the time, it was just the National League, in effect a Third Division. The racing was just as good as the higher leagues; indeed the Eastbourne/Birmingham playoff final were some of the best speedway matches I have seen. However, the BSPL in their (?)wisdom have destroyed the (invaluable) MDL/SDL and downgraded the NL to the NDL.
  17. Quite right; I couldn't remember the spelling! Beautiful Railway Bridge of the Silv'ry Tay!/Alas! I am very sorry to say etc. Puts Shovlar's epic in the shade.
  18. And the problem is, the Cradley riders are supposed to be those who have had a connection with the club. Given that Cradley have not been in the top league for over 20 years, who could they have as heat leaders?
