Why don't we ride as England rather than GB? I can't remember the last time a jock/taff/northern mick rode for us????
-
Had a wedge on Poland at 9/4 with William Hill. They have Denmark as favs at 7/4, Aus 9/4, GB 10/1, Sweden 10/1, 125 Bar.
-
Cheers, I wanted to see what odds the Poles are Outright. I would imagine they will be about 5/4. If they are 2/1 I will have the bookies arm off!!
-
Does anyone know if any bookies have priced up the Speedway World Cup yet? It says in the July Sky Guide to check SkyBet for odds but it would appear that they haven't published them yet.

For Our Entertainment!

Good point well made. The most sensible posting I have seen on this forum for a long time. -
Indeed my posting was: "I was sat watching last night's meeting on Sky and I have to say that although it was great to have speedway back on our screens the meeting itself was of a poor quality and would have done nothing to encourage new supporters. The track was not good and I am most definately not having a pop at Reading here as to me the conditions were to blame. The track slickened off quickly and no significant watering could take place as it would have just frozen in the elements and iced up the surface. This leads me to the main thrust of my point. Should we be holding Elite League speedway meetings in such conditions? Here is my proposal: The teams in the Elite League meet each other ONCE home and away and not TWICE as they do now. This would mean that the fixture list could be accomodated during the 'summer' months and not having to race this early in the season in brass monkey weather which benefits nobody. This would also mean that team would probably only ride at home every other week. This would get rid of 'fixture fatigue' amongst some fans who frankly either get bored going to home meetings every week against the same opposition or simply cannot afford it now that Elite League Speedway is not a cheap night out anymore. I think crowds would increase as a result of this and would engender much more 'anticipation' amongst fans for their home matches. I think the current format of having to race a massive FORTY fixtures in the league before adding on the play-offs, KO Cup, Craven Shield etc dilutes the quality of the sport. Open to you'all for discussion!!"

I posted something along these lines back in about March time and got slagged off by all the sad so and sos who, without a weekly trip to speedway during the summer, evidently have no lives!

British Selection For 2007
Adder replied to Gaz W's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The only fair way to decide this is for the top 2 English riders in the Elite League averages at the end of the season get the places. Everyone would know where they stand then and may encourage some English riders to try a bit harder for their Elite League clubs during the season. -

Ghastly. He looks as bad/pi$$ed (delete as appropriate) as he sounds!! -
Last train out of Cardiff to Swindon, Reading, London etc is at 8.25pm which negates this as an option unless staying overnight and getting a train back on Sunday morning. All aboard the Rosco Express again this year!!!

I guess he was referring to the fact that riders with 8 points normally make the cut for the semi-finals but this time around it was 9 points.

World Cup To Be Staged At Reading
Adder replied to scabby3's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Interesting to note that Speedway/Greyhound stadia seem to be exempt from the new regulations that now apply at football grounds following the events at Bradford and Hillsborough. Some speedway stadiums I have been too are accidents waiting to happen. Especially some of the pits areas where wooden structures are surrounded by fuel, oil and sources of ignition. -

I think Blunsdon has a maximum capacity of 5,500 on the fire certificate these days. I'm certainly not suggesting they should hold the World Cup Final there though but it would be preferable to Reading. It should be at Coventry. Larger capacity and slap bang in the middle of the country. -

What is the capacity of Smallmead? Wouldn't have thought it would be big enough for a World Cup Final. -

Lee Richardson is the stand-out bet at 100/1 -
It is also The Derby that afternoon at 4.20. That is why the England game was moved forwards to 2pm so that the two events wouldn't clash on the BBC.

Surely the rostrum was: 1. Leigh Adams 2. Todd Wiltshire 3. Dave Watt As per the result of the A Final? -
There is already a thread about this. Funnily enough it is in the World Cup section
-
Although it would be nice to have the World Cup Final at Swindon if I remove my local bias I would have to say that it should probably be held at Coventry. It is the most centrally located EL stadium that has the required facilities. Supporters who live ooop north must get fed up with having to get all the way down to the south coast so a midlands track is a fair compromise. I personally think Coventry will get the final and Big Tel will wangle Swindon the run-off.

Fairies should stick to Christmas Trees.

Richardson is a total melt, there is always someone blame but himself.

Tickets are not required in advance however if you leave it until the day you have to first purchase a ticket at a shed in the car park and then queue up to get in. No cash can be paid actually at the turnstile. Not aware there is a bar extension however many bars in Swindon town centre open late on Sundays for those in search of more yeast, hops etc. If further information regarding drinking establishments is required please let me know

Undecided at the moment Seb. I am loath to pay £22 to get into a meeting at Blunsdon, especiall when we only paid £27 for the somewhat more palatial surroundings of the Millenenium Stadium. Then again the closer it comes the more I feel I should be there. But £22 = 8 and a half pints of cider at the New Inn....
