  1. Hotel rooms are being snapped up by the second now that the date has leaked out. We were given a heads-up by a Cardiff hotel owner ladt night that it is going to be on July 4th next year so have managed to book 2 rooms.
  2. Just shown your postings to my disabled colleague. Her response was to shake her head and state "it's little wonder we (the disabled) get labelled as a bunch of moaning whingers when there are still people about with attitudes like that". Anyway, the initial thread was about the Unemployed so i'm leaving this segway at that.
  3. I've read some b%%%%%s on this site over the years but this takes the biscuit. The disabled people I know would be insulted by your posting. And for what it's worth, most speedway promotions do not own the stadia that they race in so cannot go around renovating them willy-nilly.
  4. Why should the disabled get a concession but not the unemployed? I know people who are registered disabled but still work in high-earning positions. Using your rule of thumb even though they are very well off they would get a concession but someone unemployed who is living on a pittance would have to pay full price!
  5. When I was unemployed back in the '80's I could get into Swindon for the Concession price by showing my UB40. Concession rates should apply to anyone who is 'unwaged' in my opinion.
  6. Does anyone know of any pubs in Cardiff that will be showing the PL Pairs on Friday night? I'm thinking the City Vaults off of St Mary's Street may have it on but looking for other suggestions in case they don't.
  7. Bit late for this year now but for future reference, last year we rented an apartment for the weekend in Cardiff Bay which worked out at a very reasonable price. if you Google 'Space in the City Cardiff' you should get all the gen.

  9. Where is the Fanzone going to be located this year then? Thought it was ok where it was last year to be honest.
  10. What happened to that giant hairdryer thing that was mentioned a few years ago that was supposed to dry the track? Did it ever exist or was it all an April Fools thing?
  11. I thought that Sky were getting it for free therefore there isn't going to be any revenue to share out anyway!
  12. Whilst I have no time at all for Bridger this thread does just seem to be yet another that has been set up for the sole purpose of having a go at, and putting the verbal boot into, an individual. Seems to be more and more threads of this nature springing up on this Forum these days. Given the recent stories in the media regarding the the effects on some people that are being trolled on internet fora I really think the mods need to crack down hard on these threads.
  13. Courtesy Swindon Advertiser 22/08/2013: A MOVE to change the plans for the development of the Abbey Statium has met widespread opposition. Permission was given earlier this year to rebuild the stadium near Blunsdon, home of the Swindon Robins speedway team, and build 450 homes, commercial space and a care home. However the developers, Landvest Houses and Gaming International, asked if the business space could be replaced with a further 66 houses due to the economic downturn. They say demand for business space has fallen to such an extent that they do not believe they could fill the space. However, there has been a host of opposition to the proposals from local residents, as well as Wiltshire Police. The main source of contention is the increase in traffic flow, parking issues during race meetings at the stadium and the lack of provision for public services . Lisa Rogers, who lives near the stadium, has written to the council to express her concern at the alterations. She said: “I do not believe due consideration has been given to the extra traffic flow this will cause. “There is already congestion at peak times along Lady Lane to the A419 junction and the addition of more vehicles will only increase the use of Salzgitter Drive as a rat run for those vehicles trying to avoid congestion at Lady Lane and Oakhurst Way.” Lisa also has concerns about the shortage of school places in north Swindon and fears parents will have to send their children further afield, causing problems elsewhere. One of the main advantages of the new proposal was that it would give more control over parking at race meetings to the stadium owners. There would be parking in the centre of the venue as well as on a specially built track. Wiltshire Police have said that parking is a big issue with the proposal and may lead to problems between residents. In a letter to the council, Bob Walton, the crime prevention design adviser for Wiltshire Police, said: “The high density of the housing has led to what I consider to be poor parking space allocation for vehicles. “I am concerned that this will lead to both increasing numbers of thefts from motor vehicles (already one of the borough’s main crime problems) and potentially also to neighbour disputes over car parking issues.” He also says there has been no communication between developers and the police to discuss measures on making sure crime and the fear of crime is kept to a minimum. The change to the proposal is currently under consideration by the council. A separate alteration to the overall development has been passed allowing it to be completed in stages. There was no-one available from either Landvest Houses or Gaming International to comment.
  14. I now have a PDF file of the original story from the Adver but I can't seem to be able to attach it. Not sure if this is down to my PC or whether it's just not possible on this Forum. If anybody does have the ability to upload it please PM my your e-mail address and i'll send you a copy.
  15. Don't take it to Blunsdon. Given the state of the bogs up there people will be queuing across the track to use yours!
  16. What a load of sanctimonious houlier-than-thou tripe some people spout. Where does it say that his 'life is in tatters' or that he is 'down' etc? The bloke has been caught with a small amount of recreational drugs for his own personal use. The fact that this is even a story is a sad indictment on today's society. I guess it must have been a slow news day in Bury.
  17. Checking back this story was in last Thursday's Adver on pages 8 & 9. Clarke Osbourne states 'The car park (on the original plan) will be extended slightly and we will have parking in the centre of the circuit'. As Orlov states above, there is a driveway across the 3rd bend to the parking spaces in the centre of the track. Madness.
  18. Apologies if this story has been covered elsewhere but it appears to have slipped under the radar. It was stated in the Adver last week, as part of an article on the Abbey Meads area of the town, that Gaming International have submitted a revised plan for their Blunsdon development involving the building of more homes in order to make the scheme cost-effective. If approved this would result in less car parking space outside the proposed new stadium and therefore provision would be made for supporters to park on the centre green during meetings. I cannot find a link to this story on the Adver website but it was in the paper last Wednesday or Thursday. Am I alone in thinking that this would be a) impractical as it would impinge on people's view and somewhat dangerous?
  19. We purchased tickets from the Stadium box office on Saturday morning. Paid £38 each and had a great view upper tire on the back row directly opposite the start line. The track was very poor and some of the races were tedious but the experience of the whole weekend compensated for that. If i'd have just gone down just for the meeting rather than the whole weekend of drinking, mingling and having the craic then i'd have been might p'ed off. Shout out especially to the Long Eaton boys who we met in Walkabout and the Worky fans in the Prince of Wales on Friday and the Ippo fans we saw in Cafe Jazz on Saturday. Good meeting you all and hope you had safe trips home.
  20. No, We had an on screen confirmation which we printed off but have not received anything by e-mail.
  21. Booked into Sleeperz for the Friday and Saturday nights. B&B for two of us cost £270 in total.
  22. Starting Gate is being sorted by some of the Swindon chaps. Don't know about the other gubbins.
  23. Ref must have been related to Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles after his Heat 15 decision. Decent enough plate of egg and chips though, enhanced by the comedic commentary from the two Aussies (Woffy and Rosco!).
  24. Dunno. Reckon he's a scummer though, he's wearing a yellow top ;-)
  25. ITV4 HD is on Sky Channel 120. Not sure if it is available as an HD channel through other platforms though.
