  1. Obviously this weeks news that Redcar & Newcastle have secure futures is good, but there is still concerns over Scunthorpe and of course Berwick, crowds are down virtually everywhere, clubs losing money.
  2. There lies the issue, speedway is dying, with the supporters who are walking away not being replaced for many reasons, cost, complicated rules, etc.
  3. Look at the average age of Berwick`s support, its an ageing one, the majority of which wont have access to the internet, so using social media would be lost on them. To be fair to the club they have the social media bases covered, the club has an account on Twitter with over 3000 followers and they are on Facebook, as is the supporters club, then there`s the club news letter, so they are getting the word out there. Other than word of mouth I would imagine the poster campaign will be the next cheapest, the club give these away free, for example there was 500 handed out for the last meeting at Berwick, so again that would seem to be covered. IMO its not up to the local paper to provide free advertising for Berwick Speedway, anyway I think speedway is well covered by them, there is a report on the previous weeks meeting, plus a preview of the next meeting.
  4. Congratulations to all at Redcar Speedway on securing speedway for the next 15 years.
  5. All credit to Edinburgh`s promotion and riders, every year they produce a trophy winning team.
  6. No greater promotion than word of mouth IMO, whether it be bar, restaurant, film, speedway meeting, you name it, ironically costs not a penny.
  7. I have seen some photos on social media of riders kevlars, but to see all 16 riders when race suits in tribute to Darcy Ward will be an incredible sight, but hopefully a one off.
  8. In terms of Poole, and just Poole, Ford has done an incredible job, and made the Poole Pirates the biggest and best club in the EL. He has bent the odd rule along the way, and rode a coach and horses through others, maybe some EL promoters out there need to take a leaf out of Poole`s book, might make things more competitive, might also kill off British speedway.
  9. I think Edinburgh will win tonight, but they cant hog all the trophies, so I will be a Diamond supporting geezer tonight. Shine bright like a Diamond.
  10. http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2653.2&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter If this fixture was organised before his call up to ride in Poland, surely he should still ride for Peterborough, I take it the fact he is guesting makes the difference.
  11. Congratulations to Poole on winning the EL, finished top, won the play-off so have proved to be the best team. Like them or loathe them they are the standard that the other clubs have to beat.
  12. Unlike one or two on here, my glass remains half full, and I am hopeful speedway will continue at Shielfield next season.
  13. All booked up for the Czech GP, thought about going somewhere else next year, and still may do but Prague never misses for me.
  14. Its called promotion, and if the announcement got an extra few along then all credit to the Newcastle promotion.
  15. Anything that guarantees a speedway track for the next five years is good news and should be welcomed, for some of us next season is a million miles away right now.
  16. Newcastle Speedway ‏@diamondspeedway 25s25 seconds agoByker, England Announcement: Newcastle Speedway have reached an agreement with stadium landlords William Hill for a new 5- year lease! #speedway
  17. So your suggesting that Woffinden should sing Land of Hope and Glory or Jerusalem rather than God Save the Queen then.
  18. But doesn't that mean there will be more nothing meetings towards the end of the season, at least the play-offs keep the interest going for longer for most clubs, though you are right, there does seem to always be a rush to get fixtures done in time where clubs race on off nights meaning almost certain financial losses.
  19. And look at the success Cradley have had, both in terms of trophies and crowds going to watch, and they haven't even got their own track. I am sure the current promotion have their reason but I don't understand why NL racing wouldn't or couldn't be a viable option, surely you need to keep as many options open as possible in Berwick`s situation, right now it seems its PL or nothing should a someone else not be found.
  20. Surely the costs for NL racing would be lower than they currently are racing PL, and would at least give the chance for the club to be closer to breaking even than it does now. You never know NL could be the savior for Berwick Speedway both in the short and long term, so there would no need to go back to PL racing.
  21. Please don't post rumours, its not a good idea on this thread. Looking at other clubs threads its seems changes are on the cards, hopefully they will be the changes both to the rules and to the leagues that see speedway in this Country stop its downward spiral, lets face its about time.
  22. Rumour or fact. I agree, PL would be the preferred option for me to, but surely Berwick in the NL is better than no Berwick at all. Buying Berwick Speedway or investing in speedway full stop might not be an attractive proposition right now but if the necessary changes are made speedway might be more attractive to an investor in the future. IMO if Berwick shuts its doors now I cant see it re-opening.
  23. This forum is full of rumours, its a discussion point, if you don't want to get involved then don't.
