Newcastle V Berwick Sunday 1st September Premier League
screm replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Hopefully Berwick will make a decent fist of things, though giving Berwicks record away from home this season I fear you will be correct. -
Nicki Pedersen showed earlier in the year that you can ride with a broken arm,we`ll have to wait to see how they treat it and the nature of the break. It would be a huge shame should Sayfudinov not be able to contest the rest of the GP series.

Berwick V Newcastle Sat 31st August Tyne/tweed Trophy
screm replied to dantodan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As in the PL meeting a couple of months ago Newcastle headed to Berwick with a weakened team, and as in the PL meeting a couple of months ago they took a deserved win, with once again reserve Lewis Kerr outstanding, just goes to show what can be achieved with a dominant reserve.Liked the look of young Rosen, maybe the Diamonds have unearthed another talent from Scandinavia, how do they keep on doing it. For Berwick only Kozza Smith showed any real resistance, with his teamates finding the ability of to many last places, which has been something of a habit this season. Apparently though a 2pt home defeat is not a disaster. Worrall made a perfect start in Ht11 IMO,I was far more surprised the ref didnt pull Ht13 back which was a far more shoddy start. But I wouldnt be putting last nights defeat just because of a refs inability to pull one race back,in your opinion. -

Indeed he is. No monsoon rain last night, dry overnight, and no rain forecast for today,no reason why the track should be anything other than in tip top condition. -
In terms of a new signing its shut, though it seems that should Ipswich suffer another (which we hope not) then they`d be allowed to bring in one of their own assets, average permitting of course.

Yes its a bit off thread but Id like to congratulate GRT Media on their dvd production of the recent Under-21 meeting at Berwick. The coverage is excellent, the pre-meeting and during the meeting interviews are decent, the pronunciation of some of the Polish riders is a bit ropey but that doesnt take away from an excellent speedway dvd. -

Bad luck for Ben,looks like Ipswich will need guests for the forseeable future, the one good thing there is thanks to Barkers average they should have a very healthy choice of guests. -

Can we take there`ll be no new rider for the Diamonds this saturday. -
Berwick will be without Paul Starke that night as he will be riding in the NLRC,also they wont be able to call on Liam Carr for the same reason.Kozza Smith should be taking part in the Longtrack GP Qualifier in Germany on Sunday 22nd,whether that means he misses this fixture might come down to if he can get to Germany in time for the meeting to sign in and if practice on the saturday is compulsery.

Or Newcastle could come up to Berwick on saturday, win, which should give them a condidence boost ahead of their last remaining fixtures.I understand the reservation from some Newcastle fans,a few seasons ago Berwick went into the Young Shield meetings as the form team,a couple of challenge meetings against Redcar & Edinburgh if I remember correctly saw the team desimated by injuries. -

It would be a great shame if Newcastle have to ride for the rest of the season with r/r as it puts great pressure on the others who have to cover his rides,so hopefully a new signing will be named. -

Newcastle have already won a number of trophies this season, and may go on to win more,so you`d think it only sporting that Berwick win this trophy, love thy neighbour and all that. Also, think of our trophy cleaning lady, she will have to seek other employment over the winter as our trophy cabinet isnt excatly brimming at the minute. -
Berwick Bandits rider Ricky Ashworth has been taken off a life support machine and is now breathing unaided, it emerged tonight. The Salford-based speedway rider remains in a coma at Hull Royal Infirmary, where he has been ever since his accident during Berwick’s away meeting at Scunthorpe almost four weeks ago. But there was more encouraging news tonight when Bandits team manager Ian Rae and his family went to visit Ricky in hospital. He was warmly greeted by Ricky’s dad Dave, step mum Pam and sister Jade. The rider has been moved out of the high dependency unit and is responding to voices. A statement on the Berwick Bandits facebook page read: “Ricky is now out of the High Dependancy Unit and now in a very small ward. He is no longer on a life support system and is breathing unaided. Although Ricky remains in an un induced coma , he is responding to voices. “Today when Ian took Ricky’s hand and spoke to him Ricky responded by opening his eyes and squeezing Ian’s hand. “Doctors are continually monitoring his situation and it is hoped that Ricky will be transferred to a neurological ward in a hospital in his home town of Salford in the next few days.” Ricky’s sister Jade revealed on a social networking site at the weekend that Ricky had ‘squeezed her hand’ when she sat at his bedside.

If Newcastle are about to introduce a new rider, one thing that might help them is that now the leagues in Poland have gone into their play-offs,thats bound to have freed up a number of riders that otherwise would be in Poland on a Sunday. -
Your right, figures taken from the BASPA site show that Wethers started on a 5-66 average, his current figure is 6-73.That suggests a more than decent season,a return to the Berwick line up for next year might depend on what Edinburgh do with him.

Regrettably, we must announce that team manager Sean Courtney has decided, with immediate effect, to step down from active involvement with the club. A combination of factors have led to Sean taking this difficult decision with conflicting work and family commitments ultimately meaning that he felt he is no longer able to give his team manager obligations the full focus that they require. Sean has requested that we pass on his very best wishes to all supporters, staff and sponsors of the Tigers. From the Tiger Offical site.
