rearingtogo
I honestly can’t believe Coventry will ever return.
HGould
Its gives me no joy to say this but I have believed since it opened that the opening of Northampton is the death knell for any Speedway at Brandon. If Northampton run next season, they will beging to hopefully build a supporter base, not a novelty base and in so doing kill the Brandon rebirth, especially with these new planning conditions. Northampton doesn't just strangle Brandon re Speedway it specifically takes its Stock Car audience too and has since it was shaled and upgraded by Spedworth running on Saturday nights, the old Brandon nights. Commercially that ensures it holds all the aces!
heathen52
Let me look into the future, a planning application will be submitted which will hopefully be refused, then this PA will be appealed then hopefully again it will be rejected. Then it will start all over again, but just how many times will the council reject any planning application, how many times will the planning inspectorate refuse an appeal ?. This is a project which the Brandon supporters can't win unless Brandon estates agree to sell, and i simply cannot see them agreeing to sell at the price the sports group can afford to pay, which brings us around to compulsory purchase this is the only way i can see Speedway/Stocks ever returning to Brandon, if i were a betting man/woman i would give odds of 100/1 on seeing Speedway at Brandon ever again, and odds on 1/50 on seeing Brandon developed for housing. They will just play the long game... In a sport with such an ageing demographic, the more the years go by the older those who attended become, and the less likely they remain in such health to attend once more... Plus, you also have to ask, where are the riders going to come from? 15 teams share riders now and struggle when replacements are needed.. Will riders be allowed to sign for two teams in the same division? It is UK Speedway so you never know... !!! If the sport was thriving then you would imagine it would be much easier to fight off developers, as there would be a clear demand for it, unfortunately, there isn't quite that currently... You have to wish them all the best in their endeavours, a huge challenge, but they have come this far, which is, in itself, a fair achievement...
