Can’t see Dan having the same mentality as Ben White.

Or Brady Kurtz 😂

Reading this comment from Ollie Allen "I have picked the best team that is available to me" makes me think, one heck of a lot of riders must have turned down the opportunity to represent GB, which is pretty disappointing.

Either that or Allen has overrated Cairns & he was quite high up on the list of "next best riders"?

Makes me feel the 2 reserves for the British GP should be Leon Flint & William Cairns, if they're willing to travel to rave for GB when others aren't, they should be rewarded with the GP reserve berth slot!

Think maybe this is a result of cost cutting measures as well, Like SGP the money available to each team is significantly lower than what has previously been offered hence why the qualifying has been tagged onto GP weekends to keep costs down.

My understanding is that Will Cairns offered to attend for experience and cover the costs himself where as riders like Dan T would have to miss meetings in UK along with high travel costs especially with cost of diesel at present

You mean mummy and daddy are covering the costs like they have his whole career.

If true...

(And I dont doubt it given your links to the sport)..

It is ridiculous...

Any sport needs a successful national team to get publicity for its domestic product, so needs its best competitors there..

Hence Cricket and Rugby Union ensured they had exclusive central contracts  for players so they could dictate when they played the domestic game, meaning they were always ready for International matches..

In "minority" sports, national success sells it to a wider audience, and media, not any domestic success...

There must be over a dozen riders (currently), better than the young man, not including Woffy and Ellis who have injury issues...

It would be like England taking my lad to the World Cup because he plays semi pro level football..

There are parallels in cricket, where players have opted out of international cricket to play the more lucrative white ball circuit

No doubt in my mind that many riders refused due to the 'no money/more money elsewhere' angle for the reserve.  I would take a different stance where a GB place was concerned and good luck to Cairns, much rather have riders that want to be there - his Grandad's also a lovely fella.

Now, I’m probably being even thicker than usual but which team manager has got a team place for his son? I assume you mean UK and just can’t think who it might be

I mean a sponsor who also got the team managers job, and at times he is not very good at it

Ah. Another cheap dig at Cami Brown. Is his company still a sponsor as I can’t see anything on Glasgow’s website to suggest it is. And do you really think Glasgow’s owners, arguably the most successful business backing British speedway at present, would appoint a team manager because his company had supported the Tigers in the past?

The national side in a World Cup should take priority so why schedule domestic meetings for that day?

I'm sure it does make it a difficult decision financially for those riders but at the very least I would expect anyone turning down GB to be blocked from SGP/SEC qualifiers and involvement in the British GPs.

Given his age what do you suggest he should have previously done, clean chimneys?

Think you’re missing the point, he wouldn’t be anywhere near where he is, including this pick he’s got if it wasn’t for the family cash/sponsorship of team GB.

He pays to be the manager 😂

works so well they dont have a national league team this season

Disappointing as it was the low amount of available riders (we weren’t into the idea of a seasoned campaigner like Jake in a development team) and the fact Buxton opened up only 20 miles away meaning we really didn’t want to draw any kind of development league attendance from them. Bigger picture thinking that’s sadly lost on most within the sport, both on and off the track. I wish ALL tracks had shown the same level of involvement as Belle Vue with regards junior speedway, just think where we could have been then.
It won’t see the end of our wonderful involvement in rider development and hopefully we’ll see yet more FIM medals coming our way.
