Eurosport, terrible professionalism.

To take a positive, at least the British Speedway & SGP rights are on the same channel, even if it has gone up to £30.99 p/m. Imagine if British Speedway was on Sky and SGP on TNT, that'd be nearly a £50 subscription fee! It's hard to see the SGP (SoN etc) being shown anywhere else as WBD own the staging and TV rights.

I think the SGP etc. will be available on one of the offshore on line streaming services as it has been for a number of years. Sometimes it’s in English but other times in Polish. As for u k league racing, this was occasionally available on one particular non u k based streaming service. The question is just how many people are willing to stump up any money to watch the sport on T V given the price rises elsewhere with council tax, water rates gas and electric all rising and forthcoming changes/increases to VED. Monetary pressures all round so probably not a good time expect the average punter to stump up cash particularly giving how fickle the riders are when it comes to the weather with the likelihood of a meeting being called off. Probably best if possible to put money into track visits and the odd BSN meeting.

No I am not. I'm suggesting that by not showing any league racing they would save the broadcast cost and satellite hire costs.  The final rights payment was made some time ago.

Not sure about this year but previous seasons their has been a contribution from BSPL to the production costs for the season as the sport needs tv coverage to attract sponsorship for clubs and riders .

Where this money came from not 100% sure got told by one person it was out of the Rowe deal along with club contribution

TNT are continuing to use Saint Media and have appointed a new OB provider for British Speedway coverage using a smaller truck but rather disappointingly press release confirms no UHD coverage we shall have to wait and see if they have cut down the amount of cameras I am slightly concerned depending on which truck they use for Speedway that they may only have 2VT positions so may not get as many replays and Slo Mo coverage

I  thought Sophie Blake was excellent.

This is probably the wrong topic, but Sophie has made the front page of the daily press today in her campaign for the Assisted Dying Bill, which has its final reading later in the House of Commons. I wish her and her fellow campaigners every success.

Suzi Perry was great,  but probably under-appreciated at the time as she was still cutting her teeth in the business when she did speedway. When Speedway was on Sky, she'd be interviewing riders walking back to the pits after they'd been brought off. I remember Jimmy Nilsen saying he would get revenge on Joe Screen while stomping back to the pits. It's great telly.

Now, if there's a crash, they cut to a bunch of over-60s eating their sausage and chips because they don't want to upset anyone.

Also, instead of cutting to some interesting conversation between races, we get long shots of stadiums with a tractor going round or race-re-runs with repeats of the races to the same old music every time. Every time that comes on, my 6 year old  complains that it's "that again" and that it's "boring".

Kelvin does his best, but it is a lot to expect an ex-rider to carry the whole programme - and his self-confessed maths problem is a major flaw as it's pretty key in the context of a meeting that if you are 10 points down then two 5-1s aren't going to get you a draw.

I must admit, I do find speedway on Eurosport a hard watch at times and don't always get to the end of a meeting. But it's Eurosport. It's always been poor for as long as I can remember.

There is a lot of space between races at a speedway meeting. The key is how to fill those spaces.

To be honest Im reluctant to criticise Tatum as a commentator, as I've done commentary myself and it's not as easy as it looks.  Its more the fact that he describes every televised meeting as "fabulous" when more than once it's been distinctly average.

A few years ago, I remember watching the ashes on BT.  During the tea break in one of the tests, the pundits had a good 15-20 minute debate about where they thought test cricket was and how things could be improved, how it could be marketed better and how they can make it more attractive to younger fans.  You never see this type of discussion happening during speedway coverage and it frustrates me that all seem afraid of saying anything that doesn't "toe the line".

It's a massive 'boys club', especially when it comes to broadcasting and publicity.

There's a finite amount of people involved and you can't get into that inner circle or critic it or you'll be ostracized.

So Discovery+ have emailed me this AM to advise of another price rise WEF 28th August 25 new price £33.99.

I am currently on a special deal of £15.49 until mid / end of October so unless a new discounted offer is made I won't be renewing at that price!

That must be to pay for the new multi million pound British Speedway tv contract!
