Berwick with 3 ex Tigers in their team gave it everything. Cookie showed some speed and will surely get back to his best with more laps under his belt. Jack Smith showed he can still score useful points at Ashfield. For the Tigers, Dan Thompson was pure class and he and Leon looked a lot more comfortable riding together. Bomber was bomber and I hope fans don't start taking him for granted - what a rider! Special mention for the efforts of the 2 reserves with Freddy's defeat of Danyon proving crucial. Best of all we have qualified for the BSN semi final and we still haven't all clicked. Edited May 5 by SharpenRake

It was at Glasgow a few years ago, can't remember but maybe an U21 final when he was in the mix first corner and got hit from behind that put him on the track beyond the air fence, he was interviewed by the BSN after and swore in the interview about the incident. Since then and I could be wrong, but he does not mix and will back off in any situation if he doesn't have clear air in front of him. I really hope that Im wrong but can't see a future in the sport with him.. Ā There have always been riders that were infuriatingly inconsistent. They though tended to be "gate and go" types who could not pass, some to do with their home tracks., others because it wasn't in their DNA I'm thinking of examples like Nicky Allott / Rene Ass / Alan Molyneux from the past, no doubt others will have other examples. I can't recall though any of them being so blatantly reluctant to avoid contact. I do suspect it may be linked to his MX background, where he would sometimes make a start and just ride away from 20-30 others but if he missed th start would literally have to option to shut off, tactically avoid the melee and then pick off riders over 10-15 laps. Speedway of course is very different, it's instant and no room for giving an inch. He's clearly an outstanding motor cyclist and has blinding speed . May be there is someone in the Team GB set up who place a great emphasis on the mental side who can work with him and alieviate the problem before it's too late. I wish the lad well.Ā Ā Ā

Think this downturn in form though came after his crash in the CLRC at Redcar last year, hasn't been the same since. It probably didn't seem so long for you as you had so many cakes etc to eat! 1

OK if it's raining I can understand why people want a quick meeting. But yesterday the weather was fine and there was plenty to talk about. Fans ask for more dirt and don't want dust but then don't want delays when it needs graded or watered.

He really would benefit from stepping back or even down. It's a shame. He's only a young lad and we all know he has the skills and talent but with that comes such massive expectations.

The meeting was about 8 minutes longer than the previous one at Workington, however we didn't eat the not just cakes but impressive buffet platter until the end. I had a small cake just before the start and was choking on a crumb between reading the teams out, bit of a hazard.Ā Ā Ā
WookieboyDon
Ashton has so much talent...but I can see him walking away even if he isn't replaced at both of his teams, which is a distinct possibility right now. When he gates and is in fresh air he is absolutely rapid. When he doesn't gate, he is shutting off and not wanting anyone remotely close to him. Kings Lynn fans have said that at times he is just giving up while at the back and looks devoid of any confidence. It is such a hard watch and hopefully he gets these problems sorted as soon as possible, because he has talent to burn. Nobody wants to see it wasted.

It is sad to watch, but a lack of nerve is something you don't want, if you want to be a speedway rider. As you say looks class when hits fresh air. Unfortunately even the best had to ride in traffic. I've never seen anyone so blatantly shut off going into the first bend. Lets hope he can overcome this. If not I can't see much of a future for him, which such a shame. When he's in front he looks one of the best youngsters out.
David
Just for the statisticians / record keepers amongst us, the time for Heat 15 (missing from the referee's report & Speedway Star) was 59.13s
