Is It Finally Time For One League?

thats an awful attitude

all clubs need to work together for the good of everyone and the future

When have they ever done that? Prem want to stick to their boring league then that's up to them. But just try not to drag the Championship down with them.

It is time for one league. One of the reasons why I've only been to my club Leicester once this season is down to the lack of variety, it's the same riders every other week. There is zero incentive for me to watch Ipswich one week when I know in a few weeks time we could be facing them in the KO cup or the play offs.

People will say there isn't enough riders and that's it, but is that my problem to fix? No it isn't. I don't go to watch speedway for GP stars, I go for the speedway. I love watching Fricke every week at Leicester, but I also loved watched the Thompson twins come through the ranks taking on the senior pros. That was just as exciting for me as watching a GP star. Let's be honest we only have a few GP stars anyways? Were missing Lambert, Bartosz, Laguta, Lingren etc. We only have the riders that are allowed here by there polish clubs lets be honest. They just come here for fun some would say. Let's not forget how expensive they are as well. Costing thousands every week!

We can manage one big league, how? Maybe look at what some of championship clubs have done this season, some brand new riders to the league and promoting the youth from the NDL. It would lower the standard but I don't care, let's back the kids and give them plenty of riders and pay them a reasonable wage so riders like Sonny Springer can get back into speedway.

After last night the only riders worth watching were Doyle and Emil, the others were shocking! I want to watch the best riders compete, not a bunch of juniors. If that's your thing, go watch NDL.

You say you are fed up of watching the same riders week in and week out but that's the same for Ekstraliga. We only run more fixtures to get more money into the clubs, if you don't want to watch the round 2 of matches then don't, nobody is forcing you.

Again, nothing to do with Polish clubs letting riders come to Britain, its due to costs for expenses, having bikes here and mechanics and wanting big money plus the headache of Visas because we left EU making everything in life harder now.

are you talking about just ippo riders or lynn too

as the scores of harris and klindt in particular suggest they were far from 'shocking'

The best solution I could see if the money was there to make it happen would be the polish model, 8 in top league and 8-10 in division 2, once home and away most promoters don't own the stadiums so this should reduce losses as less meetings but the shortened season would mean seeing the top boys only once and hopefully lead to more meaningful meetings.

The top boys could still pick up there 4-6k and maybe a few more would come back with a shortened season, the second strings could still double down to boost their earnings.

Try and run meetings at least fort nightly rather than monthly avoiding the 6 meetings in two weeks early October scenario and more fans losing interest due to no regular schedule.

This would save seeing the same teams/riders every week, if you knew Emil was coming once a year rather than three/four times you might turn up.

As I say the money isn't there to make it happen but its like anything in life if you wanted to get fit maybe you would look at what Ronaldo's fitness routine is rather than sticking with a diet of kebabs and coke and expecting a different result.

Not to be harsh but I didn’t turn up last night to watch Kings Lynn so I wasn’t bothered, kings Lynn were far superior, I was disregarding our other 5 riders. Although Doyle and Emil are another few levels above Klindt and Harris!

Isn't that what the GP is for?

No because Emil doesn’t ride in it does he.

That is like saying I don’t want to see the best footballers in the premier league because that’s what the champions league is for. If you love a sport you always want to see the best because in theory they give the best match ups, that’s how sport works.

Thursday nights are made for speedway

Not for those of us who have to travel because they live close to the team they follow

Not sure fans of Championship (EFL) football would agree, especially as they can also watch the 'top' teams on tv.

And yet the biggest cheer of the season apparently was when your GP star Fricke came from 15 metres to win on the line in spectacular fashion. I’m sorry but you ain’t getting that kind of star quality from the Thompson’s or even Ryan Douglas.

How people are happy to see these riders depart is beyond me.

I don't think anybody is happy about it, but if you only have 5 teams that are willing to pay out for the privilege what is the answer? Run a 5 team league? Surely you can see that's not credible.

Ok, let’s get rid of the quality we do have, and let everybody have mediocre teams and equally sh!t attendances for the sake of equality and “credibility”. Terrific strategy. Ban the GP stars, problems solved!

Okay, you've said what you don't want... what do you want? Realistically? Bearing in mind none of the current CL teams want to move up and it looks very likely that the Spires will be no more next season. You want a 5 team league? Home and away 3 times?

What is the alternative though ? run with a 4 or 5 team top flight.

The time for any club to race a home race meeting must be when it suits them most in the current climate , irrespective of league . i feel pooles main reasoning for dropping down was 2 fold, one of those would have certainly been race night , the other was monetary i would think as they are business people and try to run at a profit, which they do well.

To my eyes oxford spires  are wasting their time in the top league, ransacked the team midway thru last season and miles understrength this. Yet the cheetahs get fair crowds and the junior side seem to do reasonably well .

Take a real act of faith for someone to move up.
