Edinburgh v Plymouth Championship Friday 18th July 7.30pm

Recommended Posts

The new look Gladiators are in town and Monarchs will have to improve greatly on the second half of their meeting last night at Poole to win this one. It will be interesting to see how Scott Nicholls (arguably the best ever visiting rider around Armadale) goes on his return from long-term injury. Plymouth also have recent former Monarchs in Lasse Fredriksen and Jacob Hook (guesting for the recovering Ben Barker). The home side will be looking for improvement from MPT, but personally I'm enjoying watching the progress of Jordy Loftus, who had another fine race last night beating William Cairns.

Friday 18th July: Edinburgh Monarchs v Plymouth Gladiators (Championship), Armadale, 7:30pm

STELLAR MONARCHS: Victor Palovaara, Paco Castagna (Capt.), Justin Sedgmen, Kye Thomson, Michael Palm Toft, Jonatan Grahn, Jordy Loftus.

GLADIATORS: Scott Nicholls, Lasse Fredriksen, Jacob Hook, Joe Thompson, Nicolai Klindt, Alfie Bowtell, Arran Butcher.

Ought to be a good meeting this. Hopefully Nicholls is in good enough shape to fire the Gladiators to a vital victory. Hook is a good choice of guest. Bowtell down to reserve could make or break the meeting you feel

Fancy Plymouth to nick this...

This has went from being what should’ve been a straight forward home win to now a very difficult meeting.

Need to be on top of our game now to take the win and bonus point.

Totally agree, Plymouth team looks far stronger both in the heat leader position & at reserve.

This is poor fayre so far.

Great ride from Paco, Nicholls looks far from race fit, which is to be expected after so long out... I wonder how much testing/practising he's done

Was it? What was the alternative?

I'll give you 2... All 4 back or exclude Loftus for running into the back of Bowtell

Not even close to ‘first corner bunching’ so there’s no way all four back was an option. Bowtell was out of control hence Loftus running into him. Correct decision.

Classic Scott Nicholls to finish off the meeting with and probably the best I've ever seen Paco ride! 3 x 5-1's from Klindt & Nicholls bodes well for the Glads.

Frustrating night for the Gladiators where it all got away from them in the first 5 heats. Nicholls rusty and short of a bit of confidence, he said so himself post meeting early on but those last three rides behind Nicolai he looked better. That Heat 15 ride against Paco was superb. He'll come on plenty for that tonight and you'd like to think he'll be a different rider again on Wednesday.

Fair play to the Monarchs. Outclassed Plymouth in the first half of the meeting. Gladiators kept fighting but were swimming against the tide. Little room for error now for the rest of the season for the playoff hopes. Looking forward to travelling to Oxford on Wednesday to get behind the team

He had a few laps at Poole last week. Not sure where else?
