You win the award for not reading posts properly

Said Fricke and Kurtz similar… Fricke too nice while Kurtz is better at world level

If you want to have a pop probably wise to understand and read posts properly

Todd was a great rider could have achieved more if it wasn’t for injury

But if you find the interview he stars how much he admired those 3 riders and how they rode Arena was a masterclass

Fricke is an awesome rider but seems to nice a bit like Adams …… Adams was as good if not better than Crump in league racing but at world championship level Crump could step up and Adams couldn’t……. Similar with Fricke and Kurtz

Read my post I clearly mention Fricke is like Adams

I state how good Adams was in the league but Crump better at world level

I state that that’s similar to Fricke and Kurtz ….

Pretty obvious that I’m comparing Fricke to Adams and Kurtz to Crump

So I’m assuming you never watched speedway before 2016?

Please tell me how many tracks were like the NSS before 2016 in the uk?

None is the answer

Ive watched speedway since 1981 and with the exception of Bradford and a lesser extent Peterborough nothing comes close to the NSS

You summed it up perfectly saying you no longer attend or watch speedway apart from at the NSS ….. sorry that is a shocking attitude to have if you can’t appreciate the other tracks in the UK and blinkered to the extreme

You have the best track we aren’t disagreeing and the best races will be at your track more often than not … but I get to see the skills of Doyle and Emil every week taking opponents from the back and it’s sensational at times just like watching Bewley and Kurtz at your place … faster isn’t better always

So please tell me why you went to speedway before 2016 as let’s be honest the racing you would have seen was nowhere near what your track now provides so why didn’t you stop going ???

You come across spoilt and entitled

Speedway has often been gate and go and devoid of proper action even in the 70s. I remember being bored as a kid at some meetings feeling proper strung out.

Think that was common at most tracks to be honest.

Every track has its moments whilst those well prepared are likely to offer a little more.

I saw an interview with Todd Wiltshire and he said the most talented riders he had ever seen was Mark Loram Joe Screen and Andrew Silver around Arena Essex… Wiltshire said the skill levels were off the charts

Probably been done a million times before, but there's potential for a new thread there?

Always reading about great/favourite riders, but most 'skilled',  is a different subject?

the above 3 mentioned were incredible to watch and rightly labelled as highly skilled, but I think there's a big difference with being skilled at just one 'trick' track i.e Arena Essex (Silver) Wolverhampton (P.K) as opposed to being 'skilled' at multiple tracks (once dialled in) i.e Loram/Screen.....adding to the latter list for me would be Olsen/Mauger/Penhall/Lee/Ermolenko etc...etc...etc...and the list goes on and on.....

I was probably very lucky to watch speedway at Hyde Rd with the great racers around in the 70’s. We’d travel to Halifax & Sheffield and they provided great racing to. I remember around ‘76 we went to Coventry for the first time and PC missed the start (as always) and didn’t win. I asked Dad “what’s up with Peter” and he explained about gaters paradise type tracks. They were in the minority back then.

It’s my opinion that the Scandinavians preferred gate’n’go tracks and these then became more common over the years. More recently (if 20 years can be considered recent) Poole, Wolves & Coventry made gate’n’go their thing and with trophies following it became an option for others to follow. Add in air fences and new bikes and the trend has now taken hold. I think even with those issues tracks could still be better for racing if prepped differently. Kings Lynn have a very grippy surface and like the WC semi in 2016 when the FIM brigade prepared a grippy NSS, the racing was dull but fast. NKI setting a new track record. Slicken off Saddlebow Road and I believe the racing would improve. Wolves were just short of an outside line and it was specifically made that way when the result mattered. The Olympic was great and a dead rubber meeting in the supporters cup (which we lost) was a great spectacle. I’m sure fans at other tracks could offer up ideas to improve things though unfortunately the cost might be prohibitive.

I understand why fans would look to sugar the pill when describing the entertainment at their tracks but maybe behind the scenes you need to do more with regards questioning your promotions lack of interest in providing a racetrack.  Maybe then this customer will return and who knows I might bring a coach load with me again.

Three of my favourites right there. To be fair to Andrew he transitioned from Arena to Swindon fairly well but never hit the heights i felt he could, on his day he was pretty much unbeatable, but he had a frustrating inconsistency about him.

I thought it was very clear what you were saying, don't understand how people wouldn't get what you meant?

Especially when you explained it again.

Ipswich will treat this as practice for the first leg of the playoff final.

I think it'll be really close for 2nd, 3rd & 4th.

Ipswich could meet Belle Vue in the semi final as Leicester & Sheffield it still have to go to Birmingham & Oxford, plenty of away points available.

All to play for, unless semi's are decided for "commercial" reasons?

Silver was a very talented rider, similar to Kelly Moran in style, he had a couple of nasty crashes though and I think was never the same after them, Screen should have probably been the best English rider of recent memory he came straight into the top league as a reserve when the British League as it was then was a really high standard, even Loram had a year at Hackney before moving up.

We were truly spoiled in those days Screen, Loram, Henka, T Rick, Gollob, Moran Brothers, Ermolenko, Lance King, Morton, PC all great racers and those names are just from my first sixty seconds of thought, Sean Wilson he was another one.

A little bit harsh. Yes it was the second division, but Silver Was nearly unbeatable wherever he went in 87. Breaking track records for fun.

Loram went straight into the top league with Hackney in 1987…. Moved down with Hackney in 88 and moved to Ipswich in 89 before going back up with Kings Lynn in 1990

And of course, having his best time in speedway, when he rode for Poole in the late 90s

happy days for sure, yes i recall Screen signing for the Aces on his 16th b'day straight into the reserve slot! I remember in his final season for Glasgow watchind him wind it on at Owlerton one last time - he certainly was spectacular!
