Super Heat - Why its not right!!

Recommended Posts

I wonder what the riders get paid for the superheat.

The points are 4,3,2,0 instead of 3,2,1,0.

The points don't count in the overall score.

The points are not included in the riders averages.

There is no bonus point available.

I remember the golden double tactical ride in black & white from a 15M handicap in gate 4. I know some star riders refused to take the ride as it was not to their advantage as should they win it added 6 to the team total but they would only be paid for 3. with added risks of having to pass each rider & excessive wear & tear to machinary they felt a bit put out.

Thought of another flaw with the superheat scoring.

Team A vs Team B has 2 draws.

Team A at home wins the superheat 7-2.

Team B at home (in the second leg) wins the superheat 5-4.

So team B gets the bonus point despite scoring less in their superheat win.

I’ve given the speedway authorities plenty of stick over the years. Plenty of daft regulations golden doubles aka the twit hat, green helmet colours the home team riding with numbers 8-13 then some that are still with us out of control doubling up, guest feats the list goes on.

However the super heat does add something, some drama & atmosphere. It’s the one change over the last 30 years that actually adds something positive.

But ... why only for a draw? What's wrong with 46-44, 47-43 or 43-47, 44-46 - the losing team has the opportunity to pull back some points in a thrilling end to the meeting.

What if some teams never see a drawn match, and others have two, three or four?  What's so special?

Indeed, if the BSPL likes to have an extra heat, why not have an extra heat anyway?!

Each match  has two points riding on it...

Apart from a superheat match...

Where there is three...

And is it four points available if the 2nd leg ends in a draw as well as the first leg?.

ie A superheat for the draw on the night, and a super heat for the aggregate...

I have no idea, and cannot be arsed checking, but that would mean two matches scoring seven points, and not five...

The super heat and aggregate bonus point should be removed in my opinion… a draw should be a draw, 1 point each 👍🏻

match win - 2 points

match draw - 1 point each team

match loss - 0 points

Simple but effective and much easier to understand 😂
