What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

As with any averaging the devil is in the detail...

Just like Ipswich and Birmingham, the Steelers and the Storm as a long way apart in attendances and salaries..

However, 27 home matches with an average of 3600 paying around £23 to £25, overall, brings a lot of money into the coffers of the sport..

And none pay out £3k to £5k per match for the 54 they play...

They do seem to be well ran though to be fair, even with a lack of mainstream media coverage, and don't seem to have to go through "desperate measures" each season, nor end up owing their players "big money"...

They're not spaffing out thousands of pounds on needless super tuned kit either!

You’re correct they pay in excess of £16k per match.
And attendance is growing year on year

Because unfortunately.
There are insufficient number of riders to  make 14 team’s viably competitive.
There is no willingness to adopt a team structure different to the current 7 man teams.
Teams will not agree to race on restricted nights. Their night or no night (they should be careful what they wish for
It is not desirable by the BSPL to only have one league of eight teams.

Needs must though, if there's no willingness to change from a failing model it's game over, I can't understand why people think that doing the same thing and expecting different results is the way to go.

It's going to be very easy for the promoters when they do eventually meet in January. They only have to read this thread and all will become very clear to them exactly what the fans want...er...

I think most on here seem to want one league, so plenty of variety of visiting teams, ran at current Championship level,, either with or without "World Stars", and done on nights that you can generate the best crowd levels for your business...

It seems the fans of just one team want to keep the current operating model...

You've hit the nail on the head here, the PL & CL are not individual entities so why, with such small numbers, aren't they riding in the same league to prove that?

a)  Many CL teams aren't able to race on Monday or Thursday, which is needed to include riders who race in other leagues.

b) Without the above riders, and without doubling up riders, there are nowhere near enough riders to fill 14 teams.

c) Some teams (Workington etc) could not compete financially with others (e,g. Ipswich) and smaller clubs would fold

d) We've been through the above 100 times.

Danish League run a 5 Man Team format.

But take a few minutes out of your day to look at those 5 Man Teams that Danish Clubs put out.

They're propped up by GP Riders, Ekstraliga Riders and the Best of Danish.

Those Top Riders compete in 6 or 7 Heats Per Night in that 5 Man Team Danish Format.

We can't get anywhere near that standard due to Rider Availbility therefore we'll be left with Riders like Jack Smith and Paul Starke competing 6 Times in 1 Night.

Most on here don’t want one league but admittedly a good number want there cake and eat it.
Reality.
One league 7 man teams racing on their chosen race night or fixed Monday & Thursdays equals a league of eight- unless lineups feature lads who can’t even make reserve spots in the championship and the team building average is lowered to thirty six - then we might get nine teams with racing being rank boring for the large part.

Of course CL teams can ride on Mondays and Thursday's...

Away from home...

They ride on their current normal night at Home.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be the nights of rider clashes with Denmark and Poland, so they just need to do the best they can to avoid as many riders missing as is possible..

I can guarantee  though that a Friday night track would do their utmost to get Brady Kurtz, Jason Doyle, Max Fricke, Jack Holder or Dan Bewley there, but, if they are needed in Poland, and that is the only night you can plan in the fixture, then just use a Guest/RR

The same with the Thursday and Saturday tracks, ideally any rider visiting who rides in Poland's 2nd or 3rd tier is riding Sunday, however, again, if no chance of arranging the meeting for him to be there, then simply use a Guest/RR....

As long as the home ream ensure esch meeting is planned for them to be at "full strength" their crowds should hold up...

And?

The racing would be rubbish for the most part with a lack of competitive races which would be enough to lose even more fans never mind attract newbies talk about killing two birds with one stone

Be honest Mike.

Do you actually care about British Speedway?

Of course, it can be a great night out...

I can see myself taking in a couple of weekends in Scotland/North England to watch a Friday/Saturday "Northern Tour" with the Aces.

And a weekend in Plymouth in summer is always worth a visit..

The operating model is knackered. Self inflicted knackered...

So they need to do something different...

Four Superstars in a race can be strung out by almost a straight.

Four "Paul Starkes and Jack Smiths" can be in a race strung out by almost a straight...

The bottom line is...

Four "Paul Starkes or Jack Smiths" will be a damn sight more affordable for the sport, than four "Superstars" and be as well known to the hundreds of thousands of potential punters living less than 30 mins away from almost all the tracks in the UK..

Drastic times, means drastic answers...

Five rider teams, racing in any days except Tuesday and Sunday and you might just keep the sport going...

Keep doing the same old/same old, and, as the evidence shows over the last decade or so, it definitely won't keep going...

Apart from the Ipswich v Belle Vue Home and Away 12 times each, "Elite League" obviously..

Plus the Cup Final between the two...

Should be a cracker...

Peterborough, Birmingham, Rye House

And Rye House had very healthy crowds in 2017 in the Premiership. Why? Because they rode on a Saturday or Friday night.

One of the worst decisions the sport has made in recent times is agreeing to fixed race nights in the Premiership.
