So no problem with them covering for these two with Rider Replacement and a guest (Darryl Ritchings). But I can't fathom why Buxton are replacing their non-existent reserve with a second string to take them way over the (already too high) points limit. Surely the spirit of Buxton is to bring on young riders, not to chase wins with ringers? Wouldn't it have made more sense to try out a rider who actually fits within the points limit and who could be their actual legal reserve? Owen Booth (above) sounds like a candidate in need of track time? It didn't happen due to the weather. However I don't know what richings average is or if its lower than bowtells and if it is does, Spooner could then fit. Spooner currently doesn't have a team to ride for and can not guest in a league match but is also being given the track time he needs. Not all riders without a team place are new to the sport. That's not how averages work. Obviously it was only going to be a challenge match, so Buxton could use Zmarzlik if they wanted. I just found it surprising to see that they were planning to use a second-string "ringer" that took them over the points limit, when I would have thought it would make more sense to try out a legal reserve, since that is what they will need for league fixtures. As it happens it was rained off anyway.

The fact it was a challenge match and Leicester had agreed who was in the team, you are right, they could have named anyone they wanted to. ONTWOMINUTES
Not been to a meeting like this for years and not heard of many participants, was visiting friends local to the track so we decided to have a look. A few good, safe riders on show given nl/ ndl standard of racing. One or two riders though were definitely out of their depth and looked very dangerous, scary stuff. At least it's a track up and running again reminded me of linlithgow.

This is national league racing for you - it's the lowest rung of the sport and a place for youngsters to earn their stripes and hone their skills. Back when I was a rider in the early 2000s you'd be hard pressed to run 15 races without some form of incident - St John's certainly earned their money back then and most likely still do! I've witnessed some truly horrifying crashes with being at so many (back then) conference league meetings. It's a part of the sport that not that many get to see, and it can come across as a bit unprofessional to those who are used to watching the professionals, but we've all got to learn somewhere! I bet even BZ was a little ropey when he first threw his leg over a 500!

It will be up to Connor/his family to decide if and when anything is released not the club. The club asking people to be patient and not speculate seems very reasonable to me.

WookieboyDon
Buxton have now released an official statement. Connor Coles was airlifted to hospital after extensive medical treatment at the track. This involved medics administering pain relief before placing him into a medically induced coma due to a head injury. He has been slowly making slight improvements but the current state of his brain injury is unknown. Let's keep Connor in our thoughts and pray for a full recovery. 🙏 7
