Ipswich Witches 2026

So...

It's either one league or a five team top tier?

Louis said he wouldn't countenance either...

Should be quite easy to find a buyer for such a well ran club I would think...

I wonder what is actually up for sale these days...

Air fence? Starting gate? Tractors? Goodwill? Anything else?

Not often I disagree with you Mike but even though its the best run club in the UK personally think anyone buying it would be mental, given Sheffield and Leicester ideally want out of top league by all counts, the 6th club if it happens will be a bodge, you could buy the crown jewell of speedway but it would sit amongst burning ruins.

I admire everything Louis has done but personally think he will struggle to give it away given the state of everything else in speedway world.

Any sale process will take time (even assuming a buyer can be found). As far as I am aware, there is still no buyer for Sheffield.

That must leave the Premiership as totally unviable for 2026 and therefore the only option to those left standing is one league.

I have said it before and will continue to say it, that approach will be the end of speedway in any meaningful way in this country.

People thinking the club was in any problems are mistaken. It’s not that Chris can’t do it anymore, it’s that every other club can’t run as professional as his so they have to create one league which Chris is against, he would rather walk away with his team he wanted than bow down to other clubs forcing him to ride in one watered down league with a weak team, I don’t blame him. People keep wanting one league, have it now, and watch all of British speedway fail.
I am very glad we finally won a league title under Chris and with such an amazing squad!
PS. Having Harry has clearly moved the sport forward.

I'm sure we can still run the premiership still , It would be brilliant and so smart to see a league that consists of Leicester, Kings Lynn and Belle Vue. Just sounds so exciting!

This is a really damaging announcement.  Ipswich are arguably the best run club in British Speedway - certainly at Premiership level.  Clearly Louis has seen what is on the table and doesn't like it.

Interesting to read the statement in full on Ipswich's site compared to the somewhat cherry picked version on the BSPL site...........

I am just basing my assumption on the sponsors Ipswich have...

Maybe some of the biggest ones would take over...?

And the crowd levels...

Chris as a "guide" in the background would I am sure help anyone taking over..

Yeah, British Speedway's finished and I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy a Club to be honest.

Not only is it hard work running your own Club.....But it's also hard work when you have to deal with several people at the AGM every winter who simply don't care about what's best for British Speedway.

At this point, it won’t really feel like the witches we know anyway without a Louis involved. People outside of Ipswich won’t understand the work he does within Ipswich and the Town, he is close with the football club and works so hard to build relationships with them, he helps out the town and speaks to the MPS, local council plus the Major and is actually part of the community. Not just a businessman who is interested in speedway, that’s why any Witches fan will feel this is a major sucker blow to take. Riding next year or not it feels like the club has been lost IMO.

Whats happening with Wimbledon Wookieboy?  Had that announcement to coincide with the Ronnie Moore statue in July but nothing since. Was it all a publicity stunt or problems with the Surbiton raceway?

Never going to happen.  Nobody in Wimbledon wants it back and it closed before........

Sorry, thought I'd get in before @R87

I think most people would really know the work he does for Ipswich and speedway is amazing. Sad loss to both club and speedway in general, as they say best to go out at the top......

I personally love the NDL and the championship so I'd be fine with it.

If the premiership falls it will be a domino effect for the championship thus NDL so be warned. That’s all I’m trying to get at, many people on here seem blind to that fact and don’t understand how riders manage to ride in the championship because they get paid from prem clubs too, championship clubs will need to increase the riders salaries and that’s where the real problems will start to come. All of a sudden you have one league that will be in the same mess as the Premiership. But people are obvious to that fact, and just think the championship is run better… it’s not the case.

I don’t really understand that argument as the old Premier had riders who didn’t double up - maybe a few but nowhere near the current numbers.
Some double uppers had over 60 meetings last season so their costs must be enormous.
