The track itself looks like a death trap for speedway with short I beams supporting cables on the perimeter. Will need some serious upgrading to provide a safer raceway. It looks as flat as a board and is allegedly nearly 400m a lap. I think the actual raceway, and the level of racing, is very much down the priority list for the BSP... Just getting a new track gives them a working example of the sport not being in terminal decline, as many seem to point out, especially developers wanting to build on land that currently has a track... A new track can be used to show the sport is still moving forward, and very much alive.... And it also provides potentially seven more DU places for riders who need two jobs, and helps the 2nd tier promoters, who desperately need these riders to have two jobs, otherwise they would have a much weaker product to sell... I would move those big yellow tractor tyres though...

They know what needs to be done to make it a speedway racetrack and like every other track in the country it will be subject to a full independent inspection before it’s granted a license from the SCB. It amazes me, most people said this had no chance of happening, even suggested the 6th team was made up for the BSPL press release. And yet when it is announced, rather than be happy that we have a new team in the league and we have a premiership of 6 teams, everybody can’t wait to mock it or tear it to shreds before it’s even opened. And you wonder why there isn’t a lot of people willing to run/keep a speedway track going for us?

At least there is a grass banking to land on should a rider be unfortunate enough to clear the fence, unlike the concrete that Doyle landed on at Lynn a couple of years ago. The tractor tyres are not the problem as they are easily moved. The issue is the grass you can see behind them as that is raised several feet above track level with a plate fence on the track side, and there is no inner kerb so the shale is right up to the plating.
Technik
All that is easily fixed. The cost of doing it is a bigger issue. There's a long time from now until the tapes go up. try to look at things with a more can do attitude not for reasons not to do it.

Probably goes against the grain for them when there is some good news for once. Get a glass half full is what I say and yes, although I'm an optimist, I'm also a realist.

This is literally the same as posting a picture of a field before the new Workington track was laid and saying "it's a bit bumpy at the new Worky track" 🤣 3

Grumpyloser
i for one am looking forward to it coming off. Haven't been to a meeting since the demise of Elfield Park @ MK however, having watch some on Sky & youtube. All the messing around at the start is off putting. My one concern is, 6 teams in the league!!! Really should look back to 64/65. Think there should be an amalgamation. link for Defunct tracks. http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk/Brafield.htm
