Loudspeaking system at Shielfield is (unfortunately) in the control of football club.  Has been for many years.   Every effort by various speedway promotions to improve or augment it have been largely unsuccessful

I had expected that to be the case. I know it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the club. Back straight has been an issue for a long time, entrance end of the grandstand has been getting worse since you handed the reins over to Greg. If some other supporters of all the clubs that use the system want to get together and look at funding updated equipment I’d happily be part of that.

It was forecast for showers so I think the track was prepared intentionally dry. I don’t think they expected to have to do much watering. Regardless it worked to the home advantage which is always the aim.

just to add the track team know exactly what bomber likes as they did spend a year preparing the track for him, so well done to them for their part in nullifying that threat.

Sacrifice entertainment for silverware , win at all costs and all that ? Fair enough, each to their own, but when fan numbers drop you'll have the answer to why already. For Berwicks 1st meeting of the season and fair weather the crowd was less than great, I'd be more concerned about how to get more fans back rather than how to bore off your current remaining fans.

I’m not sure win at all costs is in our repertoire. Take an available advantage when we can yes as would anyone. I don’t think many existing fans, newcomers or even tigers left feeling shortchanged last night. There wasn’t much overtaking but there was plenty entertainment. I spoke with diamonds fans that will be coming back and a couple from Germany who are following Leon who might not be back and tigers who follow the team everywhere. All were smiling. Crowd seemed ok to me. Back straight had a few gaps but the main stand had people searching for seats.

It must be difficult when there's football on a Saturday to prep the track, Berwick never been renown for lots of passing,we have what we have and that's it, I thought the crowd was very good,if you thought that was bad you should see it when the southern teams are here

Have to disagree regarding crowd level. Looked very good ,be surprised if there are any bigger crowds during the season.Maybe if we are in the running for Silverware there might be.Personally thought it was an entertaining meeting,I’ve seen a lot worse.

In spring and autumn, Berwickers go to the main stand (it was very full on Saturday) and in the warmer months tend to stand out in the sun.   A trend that's been the case for over 50 years.

Oh yes, Berwick are renowned for silverware and winning at all cost, with poor crowds. Haven't made a semi final or the play offs for 12 years for crying out loud.

I’d argue there was more there on Saturday than what was at Ashfield, albeit down to Glasgows great away following, but if you think that crowd was bad, for a small town like Berwick, you’re very badly mistaken. Berwick Rangers attendance which I believe includes all tickets given out, and season tickets, not just people through the gate, recorded an attendance of 545 in the afternoon, and having walked through the car park, I can say there was easily 3x as many cars for the speedway, possibly 4x.

The track was poor, and it may of been deliberately like you suggest, but we aren’t allowed access to it from around 1pm-5.30pm, and it was forecast to and did rain from 11-12, thankfully the rain didn’t amount to much and we were good to go, but if it had been prepared differently, and more rain arrived, we could have been in bother.

Don't think that's case these days

Heard it was  joint lease so all parties responsible

To be honest I would think it needs experts in to sort it all over and that no be cheap

No use mucking about trying to fix bad with bad eh

I think jack has to be showing he can improve and at least up his average to what he originally joined on. Can’t be too hard on Reid until he has a few home matches under his belt but he needs to be proving he is worth the 4 point spend or it negates Morris’s bargain average. I think it will be closer than last night but as you say we will need some stand out performances to take the win.

I’m afraid I don’t have confidence in Jack  he is inconsistent from race to race.He been riding 10 years without really stepping up at Championship level.Wish him well  though.(will be happy to be proved wrong).

I think that was the busiest I’ve saw Shielfield.

I arrived just before tapes up and I’ve never saw the car park so busy. The first bend was mobbed, as was the back straight.

I always get there for gates opening to beat the queue for burgers for my kids. And the car park was busy then. There very few empty seats in the main stand. I’m not sure where the idea it was poorly attended came from.

Late to the party on this one but I just have to say what a thoroughly enjoyable Saturday night that was.

The Tiggers fans appeared in their hundreds and hats off to them for the large travelling support, probably assuming they’d walk away with a full compliment of points.

However the Bandits were defiant with every one of the 6 on show doing their job and then some. A special shout out to Reid Battye for the most impressive home debut I’ve ever seen, he is something special.

A massive well done to the promotion and especially Dick Barrie for ensuring we secured the services of this talented guy.
