So MPT didn't look at the programme for helmet colour for his heat, nor did his mechanic and even more alarming the Team  Manager didn't bother to check either. After MPT's exclusion for 2 minutes a couple of weeks ago for sauntering from the pit gate and not getting to the tapes in time, he needs to show a more professional attitude. He has cost the team points again and potentially a win overall.

It looked to be the Worky Start Marshall who pointed it out to MPT as soon as he arrived at the tapes, he immediately went back. May well have had time to shout from the gate and get a change of helmet colour brought over and still been within the time limit because it wasn't long into the 2 minutes on the countdown clock. Looked like the rule never occurred to him in the moment.

Looks like the ref got thjs 100% wrong as the rule only applies to reruns. Dreadful refereeing

Did he though ?, MPT was under the 2 minute countdown and as such I don't think he was permitted to leave the track to rectify his own error. This seems to be reinforced by the refs decision. MPT has to take responsibility for this , even a quick check by the camp would have avoided the incident.

But to me the race wasnt under starters orders ie no green light on and was within the 2 mins so shouldnt have been a prob!

Although I dont agree with the rule, you could argue that reruns arent under starters orders neither.

If theres some unknown advantage a rider can gain from re-entering the pits, then fair enough. However, I havent seen one person state an advantage, therefore why does it exist? If a rider can get to the tapes within the 2 minutes, then who's bothered what they do with that time?

If its to save time, then do what the GP does and reduce the time.

Scunny just lost the unfortunate Dan Gilkes to injury. Plenty of strong reserves to choose from. Scunny been weak in that department tonight so it could well strengthen them.

Would Jordan Jenkins average fit as a replacement for Gilkes?

I think the ref may well have made an error. I wasn't far from the start line when the start marshall pointed the helmet colour error out to MPT who went straight back to the pits. I remember looking at the countdown clock when the error was pointed out and thinking that there was plenty of time left. When MPT came back out I checked the time again and thought he would make it. Then an announcement came over the PA system stating that MPT had been disqualified for leaving the track.

Dayle Wood had a similar situation racing again Armadale, wearing the wrong helmet colour & I thought how did the team manager not notice that? Didn't return to the pits though.

My understanding of the rule is riders can't return to the pits after a false start, but can if there's a crash. Obviously a time saving plan, but agree with others who have said, just use the 2 minutes allowance to keep meetings flowing.
