ouch
Looking forward to the NSS this Sunday at 1pm. Races galore for £15 or free if you’re under 12 (£6 if you’re under 18). None of the unnecessary GP riders, run at a time to suit which is also good for families with a comfortable grandstand view. I’ll probably have to get there early to avoid disappointment as this ticks all the boxes for speedways new golden era. Note to the promotion, leave the GP stand up next time as this event will be rammed. It’s good to see a club actually taking on board the brilliant, cannot fail ideas presented on this very forum. I don’t know if I can live with their smug “told you so” comments on here after the event. See you all there.

Do you know if anyone is recording for download on YouTube? I really do wish more is done to promote this type of meet and the future of the sport. Sadly some supporters are indifferent but where is the next Dan Bewley going to come from if you do not get behind the youngsters. It’s a pity that the nearest club Ipswich, do so little at this level. Enjoy the afternoon.

Hawk127
7 minutes ago, IainB said: ... and it's not about filling the stands, it's about not making a loss 👍🏻 I don’t dispute that and it is a fine balance between pushing on with the next generation or supporting the decline with no one interested in the talent that may be another Bewley. Like everything today supporters have no patience and want instant heat leader status riders and seemingly refuse to back today’s newbies. It didn’t happen in years gone by because you had second halves to meetings and the 6 and 7 team riders got to compete in real races not contrived protectionist heats and supporters appreciated this pipeline of talent. The sport is in the situation it finds itself in because of fickle supporters who dismiss these youngsters as wobblers which is an insult added to which you have promoters who cannot or will not back the trainees and then you have failing of a sport governing body who have consistently not bothered to adapt to the changing situation that the sport finds itself in with no idea of how to create a pipeline of future talent. Its rules inhibit the progression of young riders and why they ostracise Nora teams and riders is the self fulfilling prophecy. The governing body as it stands is not fit for purpose. So much needs to change across the spectrum from club owners to governing body to supporters but alas in today’s climate nothing will happen apart from the continual decline in the UK of this once great sport

The thing that they took to the Gorton Festival thingy..? It looked really good... I am sure that will have attracted 1000's given they will have I am sure, advertised this fantastic event.. And several 100's will come I am sure from that Youth Centre they linked with the other year...
marko
We need young riders and a bloody ton of them too. Britain needs to scrap the current setup and completely start again from scratch. Training camps, standard machinery, with the league that is somewhere between the second and third divisions, and split regionally, they may even need to cease running a league because of a lack of riders and go back to what they did in 1928 with a series of individual meetings and match races, until enough riders can be found to run a league with no doubling up because it WILL be just one league, with some scratch races after for riders under 15. The longer they keep sticking a plaster on it, the harder and more expensive it will be to repair it properly or maybe not at all.
Pinny
Doesn't Lawson work as a plasterer as well? If so good on him for earning a living away from the sport. At least he isn't one of these teenager prima donnas who get everything top of the range and turn up and span yet do sod all on track.

Yep he is the blue print for any UK rider that realises they won't reach the gp aside from needing to work on his presentation skills when turning up for a meeting he has played the game like a finely tuned fiddle in both leagues in the UK.

He is actually, possibly, the perfect kind of rider the UK version of the sport needs.... A part time Speedway rider.. Six months work riding Speedway, 12 months doing some other job...

He is a true old National Leaguer in many ways - combined both and probably did / does pretty well out of it. Means he has an income out of season too.

Plastering alone is a physically demanding job and riding in two leagues plus abroad , hes making a very decent living for himself.

I’ve asked if they will name the final in your honour as they have used your ideas to run the show. No expensive GP stars. Check. Run at weekend. Check. Cheap entrance fee. Check. Appeal to families. Check. Quick turnaround in the 30 odd heats, so no getting board in between heats. Check. Bringing on the next generation. Check. An event where you don’t need to worry about guests or du’s. Check. Jeopardy. Check, or as much jeopardy as we get in the other individual meeting Belle Vue run (PCMT). Nice modern facilities to view the racing. Check. The only thing holding us back this weekend is the podium, unless you can think of anything. The golden era starts here.

They just now need to advertise it across Gtr Manchester, to the Three Million people who all live within a 45 min drive of the NSS, letting them know when the meeting is taking place, and how much to get in, (things like that).. Do that well, and the place could be rammed... Who knows? If it works, they could then do the same advertising when the Aces are racing.... (Maybe not every box will get ticked then eh?)
