Workington v Poole 18/07/26 6pm Championship.

After a few weeks of no track action at the GT Tyres arena the Comets are in action against the highly fancied Poole Pirates team.

The Workington riders whilst having no team action have been busy riding for their respective Premiership sides (Batch, Tate and Drew) and also guesting for other Championship teams. Max and Vinnie have also been guesting a few times for championship teams so hopefully the guys will be race ready.

The Poole team are packed with heavy hitters including the formidable pairing of Rushen and Cairns, while the heat leaders include Lawson , Cook and Kerr!

The weather at the weekend is forecast to be  a bit cooler than of late which should be better for the racing surface.

** Remember it is back to the 6pm start time**

Pilots sneak luke Harrison at reserve for the " injured " bowes

1) Bowes is injured not "injured"

2) Poole didn't "sneak" Luke Harrison in at reserve, they made a shrewed guest selection

3) Every guest selection will probably be stronger than Bowes because he's been in poor form all year. Poole are hardly likely to say "we'll only sign weak guests to match Bowes scoring"

4) when Jacobsen was missing, on his assessed, did Workington refuse to give Zischke a r/r outing because Jacobsen wasn't really a "5 point rider", or only use 3 point guests? Of course not, they'd plan to be the strongest the rules allowed.

5) with a strong choice of guest, I expect Poole could romp this.

Why "injured" in quotes? His season is over. Have you not seen the scans of his back?

I haven't seen the scans Steve, are  these available on social media at all ?. What do the scans reveal and In what meeting did he suffer the injury ?.

I'm not having a go at Poole here (just to repeat I'M NOT HAVING A GO AT POOLE) or Luke for that matter, but the guest rule is bonkers, how can a rider who has been in a clubs top five (and indeed riding as a heatleader for the best part of two season) guest as a reserve? Utterly ridiculous!

because of averages that way there can be no manipulation on any given day as averages are there for all to see

Check out Fraser Bowes #51 on Facebook or the Pirates website. His initial injuries included a pierced lung, and damaged ribs plus extensive bruising etc. He had treatment and attempted a comeback but couldn.t turn the bike without backpain - crashed again!

He went back to the medics, had more scans which revealed a previously undiagnosed central disc protrusion!  Recovery time 3=6 months, so his season is over!

I get that but its as daft as a brush isn't it? Luke Harrsion is a considerably better rider than Fraser Bowes. It's essentially a statistical anomaly. The guest system shouldn't be about employing ringers for one night only.

Okay, thanks Steve. He has had a bad run commencing in the Aussie season.

Averages dont tell the whole story though. A rider can sudenly hit top form hitting double figures and guest for a struggling rider eg Jordan Jenkins struggling at Redcar to flying at Berwick.

I guess the pro-Poole response would be Bowes got that average riding in the top 5, so it's not a "reserve" average.

If you did have a restriction on team positions & it meant Luke Harrison couldn't guest at because he's ridden as a "heat leader" that would unfairly restrict Harrison because he was unlucky to be racing in a harder position.

If they brought in a rule that guest reserves have to be currevt reserves, then you could get a situation where Kyle Newman (4.91) could guest at reserve but Vinny Foord (3.40) couldn't.

Maybe if there were more restrictions on riding order (top 2 at 1&5, weakest reserve at 7 - can't be replaced in heat 8 the averages would be more "realistic" but they'll always be situations when a guest is stronger than a missing rider,  especially with rolling averages.

Was it really necessary to explain this 😂
A reminder that not everything has to be taken “literally”.

Neila is obviously a Grade A wind-up merchant when it comes to all things Poole…
