Trust Sheffield to be the first team to use guests this season

As everyone knows, Guests are a "necessary evil", and Speedway simply couldn't run within a team framework without the Guest Rider system...

It would clearly be absolutely impossible to run Speedway as a team sport if they didn't share around each others riders every week on a horses for courses adhoc basis...

The top tier in the UK only has six teams, compared to Poland, Sweden and Denmark who have eight teams in theirs...

And the UK's top tier will use not far off 100 guests, once more, this season, to ensure the season gets completed..

The other three leagues, with two more teams in each, must use well over 100 I would think to complete theirs...

Put simply, there is absolutely, 100%, no other way of running Speedway as a team sport.. ;)

You've completely and utterly missed the point! Guesting for a rival compromises the integrity of the competition.

I have no issue with Sheffield, more with the system, my own club and the two riders. I don't imagine Fricke is bothered either way as he'll guest for Sheffield if Lynn don't make it.

Sums up succinctly why the sport is not credible in the UK and it needs to reinvent itself and stop pretending that it should be a full time occupation for riders when the club owners treat it as a hobby and it is about time some riders got the message. Most are not good enough to justify it as a full time job where you want to earn over six months an annual salary. Those riders gracing the UK tracks are simply not good enough to qualify as speedway professionals but are OK to race having honed certain skills but that does not justify the riders demands. Go back to part time and stop expecting everyone to owe you a living.

This is why I detest guests; Fricke and Cook could in theory help Sheffield pip Lynn to 4th.

Even if Sheffield ran without guests for their remaining 4 meetings they would most likely finish in front of Lynn. The best you can possibly end the season on is 25 points. To do that you have got to beat Leicester home and away, having already lost both legs of the R1 fixtures, and win away at Northampton which you failed to do in R1. Sheffield are on 20 points and more than likely going to take 3 from the Northampton home fixture, and would probably beat Belle Vue at home even if they ran with R/R for Holder.

Having missed the 2022 playoffs through injury, Fricke has obviously decided that he may as well get settled in with his 2026 play off team early to give himself a good chance of a medal. 😉

Realistically Lynn won't be making the play-offs, but 2 defeats by Sheffield would increase their slim chances.

If I was a Lynn fan, I wouldn't want my riders guesting for a play-offs rival.

If Belle Vue were missing a rider & needed a guest, I'd be encouraging them to score as many as possible!

Ultimately if we don't qualify (again) it'll be because of the three home defeats and at least one loss at Northampton; however the optics of two of our riders helping a direct rival do so is horrendous, and something British Speedway needs to sort out going forward.

It has gone on for "ever", however, given the ever dwindling amount of teams over the past couple of decades it has just become more prevelent and therefore significantly more noticeable...

And obviously Social Media now gets the information out there well before the meetings take place, which then gets discussed (and often deservedly ridiculed), by a much larger number of people...

I am actually surprised that both meetings are not having the situation hyped up by the two hosting clubs ..

Eg. "Will the two Kings Lynn riders sabotage their own teams season by scoring well for Sheffield, or will they be double agents and help condemn Sheffield to two defeats?. Come and watch the intrigue unfold! Don't miss out!!"..

It would pack out both the venues I am sure ..😉😁

Really this early meeting should have been called off, if they do some wonders the track is still going to be very wet with limited time to delay due to Sheffield this evening.

But they didn’t want to call it as they will be forced to run it on a Tuesday/Wednesday (if they can?) due to no available Monday/Thursday despite us not having a home meeting for weeks and such short fixture list.

The track will be nice and grippy if the recent deluge that just hit Stockport lands at the NSS..

Inside line, like riding on rails, and very fast....

This is how Bewley got track record on a wet August bank holiday, but will mean poor racing.
