When domestic UK Speedway had to stand alone without that TV coverage to engage people to attend, it was simply found wanting, and unable to evolve... The TV package was very much highlights driven, therefore the sport looked like it was that way all the time. Eg. Watching PC win three races of his five from the back gave the sport huge interest at the turnstiles when these riders visited... Instead of evolving, the same old, same old has been trotted out year after year, to ever dwindling numbers who, after voicing their frustration for a fair old time, eventually gave up complaining and voted with their feet... UK Speedway is the "Woolworths" of sport in the UK, ie stuck in a one dimensional time warp and unable to change given the skill set of those who lead it... You could walk into a Woolworths in the early 2000's and it looked pretty much the same as it did when you walked in to one as a kid in the 70's..
