I think Buster should offer to take the World Team Final back to Saddlebow, as Belle Vue isn't fit for purpose.

Do we think there is a possibility here that we may lose our licence to operate?

 

I don't want to believe that the BSPA would do that, but after reading that statement I would say anything is possible

No because the BSPA need Belle vue in the league, plus if that happened belle vue would be gone, which would be a massive disaster for speedway.

They wont get the final, it's only in UK because of the new stadium, otherwise it would be abroad. The track will be fine long before the world cup.

My point being that if the BSPA knew that this could happen and warned Belle vue that it could and they felt that running the meeting would harm British speedway they could still have refused to licence the track to stop it happening.

 

 

The BSPA are not the SCB (altho their members do overlap somewhat) and it is the SCB that issued the licence not the BSPA. Therefore the BSPA as an organisation had no power to stop the meeting going ahead.

 

Whether the BSPA should have made representations to the SCB is another matter. IMHO they should have, but having read thro the speedway regulations the actual condition of the track is not mentioned, so I'm not entirely clear on what grounds the SCB could have refused to issue the licence.

 

All in all it's a mess that no one comes out of with any credit and once again the issue of an independent governing body with the power to make such decisions needs looking at.

Reading between the lines - BV management were told to cancel the meeting but decided to go ahead probably due to finances. Lets hope the track is ready as soon as possible & that with some softer promoting they can get decent crowds- offer some sweetners etc.

Not sure why the BSPA would punish BV once they get the track sorted - unless theres other issues. All seems very ill prepared.

I will break my self imposed exile from this Forum (for one Post only) to say how very sad I am to see and hear about the events at Belle Vue's new Stadium.

 

I have very great sympathy for all of those good folk who travelled to the Stadium for the 'First Night'. They must be extremely angry and upset at losing, in some cases, considerable amounts of money. Sadly it is now apparent that the Stadium was not ready to use. This should elicit some sort of apology, and perhaps some compensation, to those Supporters from Belle Vue Speedway Ltd. itself.

 

That said, in the best regulated Schemes problems arise - it is how they are dealt with that counts. Belle Vue will, hopefully, learn from this dreadful experience and ensure that everything is totally sorted out regarding the Track for the next Meeting.

 

As regards Mr. Morton and Mr. Gordon - they have put their heart and souls in to this Developement over a number of years - they must be totally devastated. Perhaps in their desire to see all of their dreams come to fruition they were too keen to 'get the Meeting on'. Who can blame them for that, surely we have all been over enthusiastic about things in our lives. Without them - there would be no National Speedway Stadium - that needs to be remembered too. They did not set out to have this happen on purpose.

 

I am saddened to by the 'Statement' issued by the BSPA - Belle Vue, as a Promotion, need some support at this time - being abandoned by your Professional Body must be hard to take.

 

Finally - I would like to wish the Belle Vue Promotion, Staff and Riders the very best for the future - you are my Team after all.

April 18th 2015 ... to March 19 2016 and no one in Speedway has really learnt a thing.
The similarities with the humiliation at Stadion Norodowy to that at the National Speedway Stadium are just too many.

But I do not mean the state of the track and the immediate issues related.

The real gut wrenching similarity is the dreadful treatment of the paying public by those that are the custodians of our sport.

On both occasions there was lamentable on-the-night crisis mangagemnt, the large crowds being left with no information of what was going on for far too long, both in freezing temperatures.
Chris and David travelled the world trying to gain experience and they still could not learn the art of communication with their customers. Just like BSI in Warwaw.

And then the public statements. As woeful today from Manchester and Rugby as they were last year from Poland.

Belle Vue, just like BSI, before them, manage to ensure a Non-statement of a statement.
Calculated to offer no substantive information and no real apology just 'regret'.
Mealy mouthed corporate bilge.

Last year it was the PZM that were first out with the buck-passing 'the track is nothing to do with us' and today we are treated to the most god-awful piece of PR from the BSPA. running away from the stink as fast as they can. Buster you are a disgrace.

In many walks of life there are crises and disasters that we must face.
But it is the manner of dealing with them that is most revealing of those involved.
And the learning from experience.

It would seem that in Speedway we are not well blessed with anyone of any decent character, internationally or nationally.

FURIOUS Belle Vue Chief Executive Officer David Gordon hit back at the criticism which followed the disastrous abandonment of Saturdays inaugural meeting at the new National Stadium, saying: This was NOT our fault.

 

Gordon and Chris Morton had to face a sell-out crowd to say the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy meeting had been called off after riders said the track wasnt safe following a practice session.

They were locked in an emergency meeting early on Monday with the Manchester City Council Project Team and stadium builders, ISG, to discuss what went wrong and what was to happen next.

 

Gordon stressed that all aspects of the stadium construction , including the laying of the track, were carried out under the stadium build contract. Belle Vues only responsibility was the erection of the safety fence, a specialist operation, which it was agreed would be done by track curator Colin Meredith.

 

Gordon said: There was a problem with the sub base of the track around the third and fourth bends which was recently completed. there were contractors workmen and machines out there first thing on Monday working to correct the problems."

 

 

Track work commenced early this morning

 

We had internal meetings on Sunday and meetings with the Council and the building contractors on Monday. The whole investigation process into what happened is ongoing. We will not comment until everything has been clarified.

 

The fact of the matter is that we didnt receive what we were supposed to receive. I cannot stress too much that we did not build this track, it was the responsibility of third parties and it was not fit for purpose.

 

We tried our best to get this meeting on but we were let down by circumstances beyond our control. We are now in serious dialogue with all concerned."

 

The contractors, who are not under our instructions, were working on the track first thing on Monday morning. The Belle Vue track curator is out there giving them advice and we hope his experience will help them get it put right.

 

Gordon added: The riders reaction not to race was understandable. The track was not raceable and how do you tell them not to race?

 

The work on the track will be reviewed by the stadium project team hourly and we will take a decision at 9am on Wednesday about whether or not we can run Fridays home meeting against Wolverhampton. If the remedial work is successful completed and tested then we will race.

 

We will be making a separate statement about re-staging and refunds for Saturday when we have taken advice about the contractual obligations that the other parties are subject to.

 

Asked about a Promoters Association statement blaming Belle Vue for what happened, Gordon said: No comment. I wouldnt make a statement like the BSPA have until I was in receipt of the full facts of the matter.

 

He concluded: Belle Vue Speedway are not to blame for Saturdays disaster. Other parties need to accept their responsibility and deal with the consequences.

Christ. If you thought the BSPA PR was bad you've read nothing until you read the BV PR. Belle Vue Speedway were the promoters, it was their job to make sure others got it right. What a farce.
