100%... Even more so when you consider Ipswich have won just one top tier title in almost thirty years... Several of their fans on here have often made, almost smug, comments on how poor the crowd levels at other tracks are, and boasted that Ipswich have consistently had good crowds, regardless of success or not, all down to their loyal fanbase.. That one title seems to have increased expectations far in excess of their traditional position in the sport, which, has been one of doing "OK" most seasons, with some "yo-yo ing" between the top two tiers as and when the team struggled or the crowds dropped... Given the cards dealt to Coleman I would suggest it worth putting some perspective to this season, and just be glad "someone" decided to buy the place, as it didn't look like too many were coming forwards to do so.. I hope his endeavors to more Speedway forward reach fruition, as that will also positively impact the Witches, and their fanbase continues to support him in his plans for the club...

Glasgow v Edinburgh Scottish Cup 1st Leg 11th July
Marksman replied to eide67's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Meeting won and lost at Number 1. Thompson over Kemp. Tried to be positive when the Comets signed Kemp, but in reality it's probably one of the biggest downgrades I've seen at Workington. Struggle to see how he was consistent enough to average 8 last season. Should of just brought Antti Vuolas back, who would of gave 110% effort -
Will always be a controversial guy but can't fault his three world titles. I remember watching him get a maximum at Newport for Rye in his debut season and you just knew he was going to be good, he stagnated for a year or so at Wolves and looked a million miles away from being a world champion but fair play to him. He has the same amount of titles as Crump and Pedersen. Would you rate him as highly as them? Not for me. But for people to compare the likes of Andy Smith and Gary Havelock to him is a joke and shows how thick the poster must be.

Point a) They have KO Cup & BSN fixtures to fit in as well - so 8 League + 2 BSN (poss more) + 1 (poss more) KO Cup = at least 11 + poss extra BSN/KO Cup. point b) Scrap the BSN Series - 16 should be fairly straight forward (even with all the Friday tracks).

Probably but I'm hearing that's the route they have been talking about in recent promoters talks , maybe they have finally listened đ

Is this a copy and paste post from the last ten years???

Wasn't Smith a Coventry rider when he won his three titles at Brandon? Collins and Morton were before my time. Havelock was good in 92, but as you say benefited from a wet track, Jonsson messing up his first ride, Ermolenko losing his head because of the delay and conditions, and Nielsen being injured and subsequently not getting to Wroclaw. Havelock deserved the title, but was also in the right place at the right time. Loram was probably the same. He was excellent in 99 and 2000, but helped by Rickardsson having two poor refereeing decisions go against him and Hamill being inconsistent. Loram and Havelock were both riders who were never likely to scale that peak again. Screen I would say was as talented as Tai and on his day was brilliant to watch, but was always handicapped by his poor gating and never got over the leg break he had in 2001. Tatum was a top rider, but tended to jump out of the way when someone showed him their back wheel. Also amuses me when he insists riders should just get on with it in wet conditions, when he was the first one putting his gear back in the van if he didn't fancy it.

Pairs and CLRC
Pinny replied to LisaColette's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I would hazard a guess that were the pairs or the riders championship to be held at BV, the crowd would be even lower than what they get for a league match. Plus, Sheffield is the home of the second tier riders championship IMO. Its good that they are bringing the events back though. The old riders championship at Sheffield used to be a fantastic day out as were the fours at Peterborough and the pairs at Workington. -
Something has to be done at the promoters meeting over winter about all the gaps between meetings, at ALL tracks, we can see now fans are not happy, and now for Poole looks like several meetings in a few days, at the height of summer when cash maybe needed for family days out somewhere. IMO the fixtures should be like football, 1 home 1 away then you would have 2/3 meetings every month at home

Glasgow v Edinburgh Scottish Cup 1st Leg 11th July
Gazc replied to eide67's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
With it being nothing more than a glorified friendly R/R for Kyle should have been the choice. Kemp in all likelihood meant we lost but in the grand scheme of thingâs it is all a bit irrelevant. Knocking them out the playoffs again if we both get there would be nice. -
Itâs criticising for the sake of it. The heat 15 choice was simply two from three candidates, and the manager went with the two better trappers and not the rider who tailed off badly against the same Belle Vue pairing two heats earlier! Itâs all a bit bizarre on here at the moment and all a bit OTT.
-
Totally agree, the issue isn't calling this particular match off, but the fact they've had long gaps without home fixtures, will be well into July with only 2 home meetings raced! If there's a cut-off date for the play-offs, it shouldn't be moved back when clubs only have 8 home league fixtures to fit in. How would clubs ever cope running 2 home & 2 away, that so many ask for?
-
What a load of rubbish I'm reading from so called supporters and giving opinions after an event is pointless The outcome of Heat 15 could have been the same with a different rider line up, so easy to critique once you know the outcome Jog. On.

Think only Lawson rides in Denmark from the Poole side. More likely they are just bad at organising and planning ahead.

If by âbasic managerial mistakesâ youâre referring to his selection of Lawson and King over Musielak against Belle Vue, thatâs just your opinion. My opinion, along with a few others around me at the time, understood the selection. Musielak got nowhere near Kurtz and Harris in 13, not sure why youâre confident he would have two heats later. Itâs very easy with hindsight. On him throwing a âtantrumâ (it was hardly that despite sensationalist âfumingâ headlines in the write up), he criticised the away team on WitchesTV mid meeting whilst Ipswich were six up so he wasnât using it as an excuse. His point was the Leicester manager and riders got in to the referees head and forced Bob Ellis to tyre pack the track despite the track man telling them it would only make things worse. It DID make things worse, and Hurryâs point was they should have listened to those with experience of track prep. Now everyone is entitled to have their own view on that and thatâs fine, Leicester and their supporters will obviously have a different one. But Hurry is also entitled to have his opinion also and he had a right to voice it. Mountain out of molehills spring to mind here. Letâs not get in to the train of thought that we should gag those involved and stop them airing their views and voicing their opinions. I want them speaking their mind and would like to hear more of it in the future. It would have been good to see the reporter get Dicksonâs view also and it was disappointing that wasnât forthcoming (unless I missed it).

Belle Vue (Home) Rider of the Night benched for Heat 15 despite having the upper hand when it came to the Musielak v Kurtz and Harris scorecard in favour of Lawson who scored most of his points against Kildemand and Zischke. Deep down, I know that if Paul Hurry made that mistake in 2027 that saw Ipswich miss out on the Play-Offs by 1 Point with a strong Team then the criticism would be endless on here but because it's 2026 he gets a free pass due to the strength of the Witches septet. It still needs to be addressed now though rather than being swept under the carpet because the same basic managerial mistakes cannot happen again next season but my feedback comes across in a negative and ungrateful light. (Not the case) I've been the only one to call out the rejected opportunites for improves throughout the season and again it hasn't sat well with others, But the fact of the matter is that Ipswich could've easily competed for the title with a Top 5 of Doyle, Jeppesen, Brennan, King and Musielak (Riding Order).

His record speaks for itself. Good luck to him for the future.

How so? Poole ride on Wednesday's, so no clash with the Premiership, with Denmark the only other league running that night... So, if riders are in Denmark, just use guests for any missing riders like the majority of all meetings do...

Really interesting topic. I don't like any of those AI suggestions and the trouble with using the word Dirt is that it has negative connotations. Looking at high profile sports branding the shorter the better and often it's the governing body/promotion name which takes precedence. F1, NFL, NBA, WWE, UFC, EPL, ECL, MLB, NHL. The name of the sport remains but people refer to the competition. i.e. they say did you watch the NFL last night, not did you watch the American Football or Gridiron. I'd focus on Oval Track and rebrand it OTR. Would open up the content to include other disciplines like short track or quad racing for example as that might be what the events look like in the future. Oval Track Racing (OTR) lets the punters know what to expect. i.e. racing on an oval track. I'm willing to accept my ÂŁ1 million consultancy fee in used notes in a brown paper bag. I don't mind if Harry Redknapp is given the credit for the sake of puplicity.

Being a happy clapper has played a role in British Speedway's decline over the years. In any form of life, You have to be vocally honest in order to generate change, If I post positive comments about this season every day then I'd be straight up lying for likes. My posts have been more negative than positive this season granted but I have praised the Club when credit was due like the Wroclaw agreement for example. I want this season to be a one off and I don't want more of the same in the future therefore I'm left with no choice but to be honest this year and express my concerns on what can be improved even if it comes across as ungrateful and negative. I've stated on numerous occasions that Mayfield were behind the 8 Ball this winter and I'll always stick by that, 2027 Team Building is the be all and end all as to which direction the Club is heading in but we'll just have to wait to see what unfolds on that front. Paul Hurry is indefensible though whether he's on ÂŁ0 or ÂŁ1,000 a night, Can't be making basic mangerial mistakes one week that costs the Club League Points and then throwing tantrums at opposing managers a couple of weeks later for getting beat by the better team on the night.

Live on BSN Won't be an easy win, if anyone can get close here it will be Northampton. Kildermand will be out injured again. Getting tests on his shoulder to see the extent of the damage. Ben cook or a dan Thompson guest most likely. RR would work also.

Glasgow v Edinburgh Scottish Cup 1st Leg 11th July
Pinny replied to eide67's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
i would not pay him a penny after that performance. there are some riders you don't ask to guest and he is one of them. Its like teams who would ask Bjarne Pedersen to guest for them vs Poole. Why would you bother? R/R giving everyone a ride would of been a much better decision and probably would of given Glasgow the win. Glasgow have improved ten fold, great track , great fans, great stadium but whoever makes the team decisions needs the boot. -
Heâs talking about the previous fixture against Belle Vue. To be fair to Hurry, itâs easy to question his selecting with the benefit of hindsight knowing Belle Vue had a last heat 1-5. But from their programmed rides, Lawson was 3, 1â, 3, 3 and King was 2, 2, 3, 3. Musielak was 3, 3, 3, 0. Although Musielakâs duck egg was a tough heat 13. It wasnât an obvious choice for heat 15, and IMO King and Lawson are slightly better gaters than Tobi so I didnât disagree with the choice at the time personally. I certainly wouldnât describe it as a major clanger. On your second point about changes,, There are so few options once the season gets underway that any are likely to be like for like. People mention Doyle, but Belle Vue asked the question when they had a vacancy but weâre talking about a rider just shy of an 8 point average. Youâd have to remove Brennan probably and at least one other, and with Brennan struggling everywhere and losing rides abroad, Coleman doesnât strike me as the sort of owner to add to his problems and dump him here also. As Iâve said before, that may be irritating to supporters in the long term who want success and instant changes when things arenât going well, but the flip side of that, is I can see Coleman being a popular owner for riders to ride for. He seems genuinely supportive and sympathetic to riders as we saw from the way he dealt with the rider insurance issue so I donât think heâll be short of offers from riders over the winter wanting to ride for him. That can only be of benefit to Ipswich.
