The issue with five man teams is that it limits capacity for growth. i.e. it accommodates current riders and club but no facility for future riders over and above those created by natural wastage. A more strategic way forward would be to reduce the number of promotions providing "top flight" team racing via a Super League with other promotions running individual meetings with riders from the SL featured and development type team meetings accommodating riders (say) below 4 points from the SL alongside rising semi pro/amateur's. This approach would create opportunity for riders to develop and indeed expansion of the SL if and only when sufficient number and capability of riders and promoters become available.
-
as i said though, 5/6 man teams would help to reduce the double upping

Also, why called the bend two barmy army when you can't even stand on bend two at owlerton....totally barmy!!

The U24 league will continue next year, so no flood of free youngsters to fill team spaces. I don't think Poland can be held responsible for this, though, for all they push the envelope at times. The riders know they'll be paid a fortune, and the fortunes are there because Poland get huge crowds, and they get them because they run a professional, attractive product. If you were paying £1000s for someone to ride for your club, then you probably don't want him risking injuries in another country, which is fair enough. I do actually agree with you on giving riders some form of ultimatum, though. In reality, are the likes of Lawson/Howarth/Kemp/etc. really going to ditch British speedway for Poland? It's probably handy now, given Poland is some extra money, but would they sacrifice riding over here for a potential 10-12 meetings a season there? I'm not sure personally. The issue is filling the bottom and middle order riders, probably with NL level riders. Would fans still attend/support in the time it takes to produce new riders to keep teams stocked up?

5 man teams required then initially until such time as can attract others from around the world back or produce more home grown
-
Don’t think Poole need to move up.Let the Premiership sort their own problems.
-
Its no myth. Its math. I was replying to the suggestion that doubling up should be limited to one rider per team. If that were the case then using this years rider availability/line ups circa 32/35 additional riders would be required.

I am all for generating noise and atmosphere, the problem for Foxhall is the vast space, thr air horn ban and the fact it noise will just disappear into the air unless lots join in. I quite like presenter and his antics - he's got a decent sense of humour. Oddly one the best noises was the other week when the Witches secured that 5-1 in heat 13 V's Belle Vue with Emil splitting and passing the Aces pair - huge cheers etc which where spontaneous and it could certainly be heard. There was also another guy who filled in for Kevin when he was away - can't recall his name but he was good too!

The 'Massif' made a big attempt to generate some noise and atmosphere at Foxhall Whilst acknowledged and appreciated by The Presenter very few others showed much enthusiasm and indeed I feel some actively disapproved I haven't been for quite some time now so that element is no longer subjected to my Cowbell and megaphone -
Apparently there is going to be u24s in Poland now. Heard it on one of the podcasts last week.

I agree its cringe mainly because its just a couple of people doing it and it sounds inane - if 15,000 are doing so it's very different!! I was always a big fan of the air horns at Arena as being a disused works or pit - whatever it was they were fine for use there, sadly at Foxhall they are banned! There used to be an air horn user at owlerton but they either gave up or stopped coming a long time ago!

Too right.....awfully football style chanting...almost cringe worthy outside of football

2 Leagues move Poole up let them ride on a Wednesday. Championship 8 teams 2H 2A 14 home meetings guaranteed. Designated dates like football for Cup meetings Redcar beat us {Berwick } in 1/4 Final in May riding Semi-Final 4 months later unreal.

It’s absolutely pointless comparing it to football. We don’t have the following, certainly in this country, to keep people interested in 2 home meetings a month. Football has millions of fans in the country, speedway be lucky if there’s 10% of that amount of people who attend regularly. If it is one big league, then the clubs and bspa need to lay down the law to the riders. If you signed for a British club before anyone else, then that league takes priority. I get Poland pays the big bucks, but it’s about time someone put them back in there box. They tried being sly a few years back and that soon got overruled. If not, it’s simple, the riders who want to ride over here will, the ones who don’t, well, see ya later. With the polish u24 league not running after this season, there’s going to be a lot of young riders wanting spots over here, a select few may find themselves riding in the second or third division over there. A rotation of a week at home and a week away wouldn’t wash with me. I want to see weekly action at my home track, I’ve known people lose interest because there was a 2 or 3 week gap between meetings. And before anyone says about going away, try going to a midweek track, when my nearest is 2 and a half hours away, working full time and having a family.

Glasgow v Edinburgh 29th August 2025
Weeyin replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Some of us are certainly NOT "we are the peepul" , although probably about 80% of Glasgow fans are -
still not answering the question it was not Sheffield that called the meeting off last Thursday

the not enough riders are a myth, there are plenty willing to ride over here but sometimes i dont think these clubs make an effort, there is 2 riders that i know of that want to come over and they made clubs aware but nobody made any effort to get them over, how many more riders out there are like that the danes for starters are strongly advised to race uk in there early years also making it 5/6 man teams would allow for less double uppers, it was only a few weeks ago that you had wright racing for oxford then the next night or maybe a couple of nights later hes racing for his redcar team against oxford, crazy and makes the sport look amateurish
-
Insufficient number of riders at a similar capable (safe) level for this to be possible. Currently average is circa 3 double ups per team.

This so: 7 from SGP 1 from SEC 5 from GP Challenge 3 WC's The wildcard is to counteract injuries that put people out of the GP Challenge. Imagine if Fricke and Lambert collide in Heat 1 in Vojens, both out of the GP & the challenge a fortnight later as Thomson makes the Vojens final. Suddenly two guys would be out of 2026 through a matter of timing. Admittedly, most of the time those WC's would end up going to the Huckenbeck's & Kvech's of this world but it helps prevent the above, or Zmarzlik being out of the 2026 & 27 World Championship if he get's carted into in an Extraliga meeting in May next year and is out for 2026.

Interesting to see the venue is titled Manchester Belle Vue Sports Village and Belle Vue Leisure Centre . Guess only speedway folk know the place by its sub title NSS which is not good for attracting new customers.

Come on! Have you not seen the Bend 2 Barmy Army! It's everything UK Speedway is 😂
