What about Northampton?
1 valve replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It already is a shale track and has been for a number years as the promoters wanted to get the European drivers to attend major meetings and they very much prefer/insist racing on shale. From what I understand the move proved to be worthwhile. -

Rob always runs teams to win at home on a shoestring budget he's not the kind of fella who's willing to repeatedly drop six figures every year. -

Pray god its not poor old Tolley behind this huge expense to get up and running in an area with no Speedway following/heritage in the most expensive league of the three to boot. -

Peter Oakes picking up on the Northampton possibility again in the Speedway Star today. He's reporting that someone is looking into the viability of laying a shale track and joining the Premiership again. A 2,000+ grandstand added to the stadium now, and the owners apparently interested in bringing speedway onboard. Could it be a realistic option this time? -
i like the 4 team tournament but its hardly going to change the fortunes of speedway around.

The kids running races are a good way to bring familys in as long as kids go free or a quid. it enables those parents who would normally stop at home as the kids get bored, but now they are probably the ones asking to go.

Hard chargers like a couple of the Sheffield team ? Bit harsh when you have Doyle !! It might be a 'nothing meeting' to you, but the result of this will decide 2nd and 3rd in the table, which impacts on home advantage for the 2nd leg of our playoff. -
I see on the cover of this weeks Speedway Star they are talking about a new track for next season. I havent bought the Star for ages so does anyone who does have any info on where this new track is?

Yeah but one less meeting on probably a slippery track against hard chargers like a couple of the Sheffield team,, may do us a favour. A nothing meeting like tonight isn't worth the risk -

Have too agree, also the decent crowds add too the atmosphere, the racing can be ordinary at times but there is always the atmosphere among the fans that will make it a good day out for them.

Hopefully this will be called off,, riders then fresh and hopefully injury free for play off -
Good post. I agree that the BSPL with only 4 current active members does not indeed have the wherewithal to steer the sport to better times. It definitely needs the help of professional business, marketing and PR consultants to develop strategies for sponsorship, fan engagement, improved media coverage and the attraction of investment. However this costs money and the BSPL don't have much. Promotions need to urgently think about improving facilities and introducing activities that make Speedway more family oriented and not just about the racing. It also in the shorter term needs to be serious about realigning the costs of running the sport based on current attendances.
