Scorpions v Gladiators 3rd July
martinmauger replied to Paul Johnson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Speaking as someone who can declare 'I was there' (cos I was) Scotty had some good races v younger Scunny riders, but at this stage of his career he understandably isn't going to ride halfway up the fence. As a neutral, & therefore unbothered re: the result, some very good racing & Pickering was great to watch, if anyone needs a demonstration or explanation of the phrase 'full send', just watch Picko. Good nite out Friday, enjoyed it as I always do at speedway.... -
The Championship might collapse Bomber into retirement. Just not enough meetings any more.

Speaking as I find, my Star has been on time, Thursday 8:30ish AM, every week the last 6 or so weks, even following a Bank Holiday. Good stuff, keep it up. Also, going slightly sideways (which we all do in speedway) commenting on the recent excellent borderline dissertation on why fans cheer when the 'top dog' in whatever sport doesn't win. Nutshell it's because it's 'ok' to win but when when a competitor keeps winning again & again (& again) it's as if it's 'too much winning'. Crashes & spills can be spectacular (& expensive) but no-one wants to see a competitor get hurt. Also in the recent Smarzlik 'off' in UK SGP at Belle Vue, any apparent delight was primarily as it meant regular Belle Vue rider Kurtz, in this instance representing himself & Australia, stood to gain following Smarzlik's downfall occuring, as it did, on Kurtz's UK home patch. Trust me, speedway, in fact any sport, means waaay more when you are properly 'invested' in it i.e. you have your own team / riders to follow....

Scott Nicholls was great the rest of the team it was pretty dire tbh.

That was more like it. Hopefully Jyeβs elbow is ok. -
Ridiculous scoreline. Although i suppose without Barker and King, was going to be a struggle. Losing two at home going to make it difficult for playoffs now. Shame really as not a lot you can do about injuries. Although maybe everyone should think about maybe not using Bomber as a guest for a bit! ππ¬

Then that would be Robin. So no Joker either please.

Well Handball & Volleyball are not far behind Speedway in Poland. But it is certainly not the minor sport it has become in the UK. We have Lambert & Bewley who are still in their 20's and a few hopefuls who are getting Ekstraliga rides. Tell me what's gone wrong in Sweden... haven't produced a decent rider in 15 years.

Scotty got half the points !
-
I'm beginning to think the championship will collapse when Bomber retires with the amount of guest bookings he takes he's holding the league up when it comes to finding a body to sit on a saddle.
-
To be fair given the general dire state of uk speedway finances you can understand why the brown envelope was grabbed at warp speed.

Pavlova's a very fair rider isn't he... probably too fair! -
Not that it'll matter, but don't understand replacing Joe T with a tac sub, I've always thought it's best to replace a reserve, if the reserve then finds form, he can still get extra rides, but replace a second string & he can't - look how Joe's going now! Of course if you're only 6 points down, you may think don't want to miss the opportunity, but that wasn't the case tonight. Plymouth's play-off chances probably over now.

Just seen itβs currently 25-41 never saw that coming at all.

Because in Poland speedway is more appealing to youngsters. It's behind Football and pretty much nothing else. In the UK it's behind Football, both codes of Rugby, Cricket, Athletics, Netball, Horse Racing even Ice Hockey attracts more fans. And there is more opportunity to give it a try as there are more tracks, 16 U21 team spaces available in top league in the world. Most British Speedway riders are converts from grasstrack & motocross (which is why Brits suck at gating!)
