Newcastle speedway

While not wanting to get anyone's hope even slightly airborne, it would be to established stadia, where planning permission is presumably still in place, that the Premiership should be looking to add to their numbers. Brough Park, while requiring serious funding to reinstall track and fence, etc, would -- if promoted jointly by the BSPL themselves (as was West Ham in 1964, which was a huge financial success despite the team finishing bottom of the last-ever -- old -- National League) might just work, not least by raising the numbers in the current Premiership. To those who say that the stadium owners wouldn't want it -- everyone has their price........ Recalling West Ham, which paid off handsomely when it was refloated after a nine-year break and later on the recent Oxford revival -- and the huge crowds that came back to Glasgow in 1988 after the city had been without speedway for 16 years, it might not be the worst idea. In a major city. After a five year gap. Just saying....... -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
Ben91 replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'd like to know what is being put in place to ensure we're not in the exact same situation (but worse) in twelve months time. The number of clubs left makes one league more sensible. Clubs racing on a night that suits them also makes sense. What needs to be done is something to make that viable. The stumbling blocks all revolve around riders. Be it the international race nights which take preference and the lack of riders of a good enough standard to fill 14 teams without doubling up (impossible in one league). So there should be a big focus next season on getting British riders to a competitive standard at Championship level at least. A good pool of domestic talent will be important to mean sides can have carte blanche over their race nights (not a complete solution I'm aware). But, as we know the Championship teams are full speed ahead at building teams and there are no rules in place (rising star scheme for example) to promote British youngsters at that level. The Premiership isn't sustainable. The Championship sides haven't helped matters by not implementing a rising star scheme or similar. It needs to be changed for next season regardless of what has been signed already, or we're putting off change for good for at least another year. That's valuable time. Everyone needs to pull together in one direction for the good and future of British Speedway. -
His official GSA going forward to next year is 8.12, which is not the same as his over all 2025 average (based on 24 meetings). Whilst the official figure is I assume a rolling average, it is not over 20 meetings, as this throws up a different figure again (looking at Lions stats on their web page). Must therefore be based on a rolling average over probably 15 or 10 meetings. Bloody (and unnecessarily) confusing this! Anyone care to clarify this matter?

I agree to an extent, but I was specifically addressing the point about a Polish only GP series, I don't think it'd ever happen And a Merry Christmas to you too š

Like when certain Ipswich fans were demanding teams moved up and were going to lose tons of money just to keep the failing premiership going? Were those Ipswich fans going to cover the costs of that team? I donāt think so, so itās a stupid thing to say about an individual covering costs. I agree itās his right to do but would he have been selling up if he got what he wanted? He would have been happy if we had another sacrificial lamb in the top flight. Last yearās premiership was basically a 5 team league as Oxford and Birmingham were so uncompetitive itās not really changed that much. We even had an Ipswich fan on here having a pop at Plymouth because they didnāt win a trophy so the season was unsuccessful. That club had a great season imo as they got bigger crowds and the feel good factor returned.

Douglas 2025 GSA was 7.90 That put him 9th in 2025...

I stand by what I said Mr B. If the British Speedway model fails and collapses then this is bound to have a detrimental effect on Polish Speedway. British Speedway used to be the "top gun" (not anymore of course) but if things were to fail here and possibly Sweden etc then that would surely set alarm bells ringing in Poland. Lack of overseas riders, no meaningful World Team Cup, insulation etc. Merry Christmas by the way. š

Unless its that weeks Speedway Star has only just dropped thru his letterbox, and he's getting confused.

Are they joining the Premier League in 2026?

Would of been better if you had told us the legend Tom Owen met with Joan English at havvy snr funeral.

The FIM would never allow it even if the likes of Max Perry (choose your own rider) were allocated a GP spot, much like a decent percentage of spots were allocated to the "lesser" Speedway nations in days gone by. And if you look at the international calendar, those "lesser" nations still get allocated a decent amount of events

I'm sure I read somewhere that the track shop was going to be open this Saturday (20th Dec). Does anyone know if this is still the case? If so, any idea of times?
-
Nor was Vic Huxley, Tom Farndon, Bluey Wilkinson, Vic Duggan, Jack Young, Ove Fundin, Barry Briggs, Ivan Mauger....it's just impossible to compare riders from different eras and although it gives us fans hours of endless fun speculating, it really is an impossible task to say who was the greatest rider ever. The greatest you've actually seen maybe, but not of all time.
-
Mmm, not sure about this. I know this is worse case scenario but GP's with Polish riders only. How boring for the public and TV (if they were still interested) would that be?

A very good question. šµ -
Maybe you would like to provide the Ā£95,000 deficit out of your own pocket ? Chris hasnāt thrown out the toys imo. No threats of closure etc. purely I require a 6 team league for my business to be sustainable. Thatās not possible so he is selling up as is his right to do so

Tony Rikardson wasn't bad either.
-
they barely support international tournaments anyway, im not sure if they would be too concerned if they were the last nation left.
-
I think they should be. Speedway dying on its feet elsewhere. Do they really want to be the last country standing running Speedway? No international tournaments, no foreign riders, isolation or what?

Abbey Stadium last day of operation confirmed as December 27th. The final greyhound meeting will take place on that day.
-
That was my initial thought, but teams will not be able to accommodate two riders that will dominate heats 13 & 15 with next seasons reduced points limit, so Dougy at No.1 may not be so bad. Dickson is right to build without Fricke (as good as heās been), because it would leave the Lions with an even weaker tail than what weāve had for the last two seasons. Getting Gilkes in as the RS would be a great move in my opinion.
