2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams
singy13 replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The play offs could be five heats with 5 riders in each (one from each team) and it could all be settled in around 2 hours. This saves one team having sit out the all important play offs to save some embarrassment. -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

The doubling up was crazy over the last few years. It would have been good if teams restricted their double uppers to just two in the top six. It would have made things more credible and do away with the scenario of having a rider at number one for both his teams. I doubt any team could have managed this over the last few years as restricting it to just two out of six isn’t easy and whether it could be achieved moving forward is a big ask, if we ever move forward that is. -

Can’t help feeling deflated by this announcement, 5 teams is just not enough, just hoping another couple of teams can be resurrected before the start of the season, I know they are trying bspl and others are working behind the scenes but it’s going to need a miracle -

All laudable aims.. However.. That ship has passed a long, long time ago.. Belle Vue are the only current team that hasn't dropped down into Div 2 in the last 20 years, showing that, there really is, and has been for years, nothing "aspirational" about the top flight... And how could there be when the majority of riders compete in both top leagues? It is now truly time for a 100% total reset, building from the bottom up, as "top down" hasn't enough at the "top" to be even a starter.. With the "positive" being so few attend Speedway, so you are pretty much starting again, and, surely, that means that the only way is up!!!? -

Unless they have convinced Nigel to give Northampton a go he's the only person in Speedway who could probably afford to drop 100k on it to get the sport through to 2027 when hopefully even the prem promoters will be forced to take a different direction. I did like the press release saying "a unique set of circumstances" when it should really have read "a dreadful state of circumstances" have to give them credit for trying to keep it going but they need to realise it just isn't working in the current state and a risk is going to have to be taken at some point to turn it around. -
Wasn't that Frank Smart? I remember that meeting well, think it was 2003. Frank Smart was chasing Stancl in the opener and Stancl pulled a huge locker and Smart avoided him and come down and was somehow excluded. Stancl went all meeting unbeaten and needed to win heat 15 for a Glasgow win but Wato and Puk got a 5-1 over him and won us the match. Great times.

Therein lies your flaw. What is affordable to one team, as they've drawn in good sponsors, built their crowd is not affordable to the next team where they sit back and only spend what comes to them. They then slowly disappear as they can't attract a good team. There has to be a collective approach. -

What is this total obsession with running the premiership despite the worst possible circumstances. It's been the most predictable and boring league for ages. You watch the crowds drop because of this ridiculous situation. -
