So after 4 seasons as a Director & Shareholder that's my time with Birmingham Speedway at an end. An eventful, at times stressful, at times farcical and at times enjoyable experience! A huge thanks to the small but loyal Brummie fanbase that put up with season after season of under performing teams, you deserved better! Full credit and my upmost respect to Nigel Tolley, he wasn't far short with the figures he quoted in the recent speedway star interview with what he invested in the club (there was also a six figure investment from other shareholders during the period I must add). Nigel is as mad as a (top) hatter, but I really like the guy. My only criticism of him (and he knows this, I told him enough times) is that he allowed himself to be influenced by others who failed to deliver for the club! Seeing the day to day finances and operations of the a Championship and then Premiership club is a real eye opener, so a massive thanks to Financial Director Tracey Smith, who somehow managed to juggle the finances to keep everyone happy (most of the time) a truly lovely lady, she has been the glue in a massively disjointed operation, which would have fallen apart without her. Some priceless moments over the 4 years on the management zoom meetings / race nights - I could write a book! You also learn a lot about riders, some smashing chaps around Paco Castagna (legend) Freddie Lindgren, Tobi M, Leon Flint, Sam Hagon, Jason Edwards, Thompson twins all really good guys! No comment about some mind Made some great friends, I will miss Guesty, Dave Rowe, Pete & Dan Ballinger, Chris Adams, the guys and girls from the supporters club and fellow shareholders Steven, Jake and Vic. Such a shame that Birmingham Speedway is no more, but without Nigel it wouldn't have got into 2023 let alone 2025 and for that alone he deserves the respect of those who knock him! Give us a B.....! Cheers Paul

Scunny have never had the biggest crowds, I don't think the crowds have been too bad considering we have had a crap team. A successful team might bring a few more through the gate but I can't see Godfrey blowing the budget with Glasgow wages.

Daryl ritchings would fit for max Perry -
If rob chucked loads of money at the team next year I can guarantee we wouldn’t get great crowds if we was successful… .Scunthorpe people are traditionally tight knackers and won’t pay the going prices..fact.

Both Dayle and Jordy will be riding for Edinburgh Academy at Belle Vue next Sunday. Tom Spencer is the only other CL rider who would fit, but he'll be at Kent with Birmingham's NDT team. So, if Max isn't fit, Tigers would probably need to look to an NDL chap to fill in, l think? September averages apply, of course.... -
When I was there earlier in the season Godfrey was on the mic and said something to the effect of thanking his commercial manager because he doesn't have a clue regarding such things.

Ahh right I get it you can’t say a mild naughty word

Interesting to hear 3 lads from Hull who came to the EWR tonight to have a look because they had seen the scrap from Redcar last week on social media

Was the cup not 2023?

Apart from the trailer sign plonked on the roundabout on race nights what other promotional activities are happening at Scunthorpe? Genuine question.

Best race Track counts for nothing if not enough fans are turning up.( have no idea if this is the case though).

The previous season when we had a proper no 1 and doing fairly well playoffs winning the cup I would hazard a guess that rob only broke even…I doubt if he got better riders that the crowds would flock to the ewr for him to be able to be to afford the quality riders that the diehard fans crave..he does well to keep us running tbf

Poole vs Glasgow KOC SF 1st leg 27/08/25

Maybe Matt should buy a London bus to help tyre packing the track and smooth out some of the bumps? I seem to recall that Stewart Dickson used to use one of his at Glasgow….but that was a long while ago. -
A decent second half to the meeting with some proper racing from Howarth, MPT and Nagel. Ht15 was superb. Minimal grading also enhanced the experience IMO. If we are going to do the business against Poole next week we need to be gating right from the start to stand a chance.

Will Glasgow use Jordy Loftus next week if Max isn’t back or continue to use Dayle? They seem to be the only two CL riders that fit -

Possibly, nothing meeting really. It will be a different Bomber next week imo. -
I suppose that depends on what the owner wants. As with many seasons, the team was built to lose away but win at home but the loss of an out and out number one meant only 3 home wins and the inevitable drop in crowd numbers - a winning team won’t necessarily bring in more supporters but a losing one certainly keeps them away. There is one rider that has excelled this year but you can bet his phone has been red hot with calls from rival promoters. Not offering him a 2026 team place, of course, as that will breach the rules but saying “if you’re thinking of making a change, you’ve got my number” But the other six need to be moved on as none have been comfortable round EWR. Maybe it’s the change to one of those hard polyfoam barriers - second hand from Glasgow - that has put them off? Whatever the reasons for a disappointing season, the supporters deserve better, in my opinion. And hopefully, that’s what will happen in 2026
