I use to avoid speedway meetings when the tendency was for six man teams with that guy using the pseudonym of R/R. Now they want to charge you to park, an exorbitant amount to get through the gate for which you get just fifteen minutes of entertainment, a programme that no longer fits the board bought twenty years ago and the current cost of a cup of tea use to buy you three pints of Watneys Red Barrel or two and a half pints of Double Diamond back in the early seventies. What is the world coming to, I need to get me coat and get back on the trolley bus to New Cross.

Basic life economics and totally relevant.

Only benefit for those that park at the Stadium is saving £3 per meeting for parking so that’s £30 for the 10 meetings

Good call in the 80's & early 90's you had bills like the mortgage, utilities and food but in the modern world you can add on as you say Sky, Streaming, Wifi, mobiles, subsidising kids mobiles ,easily another £150- £200 a month going out the door on things now viewed as essentials that speedway didn't have to compete against thirty years ago.

Absolutely.... Then add in a less than authentic operating model which means that so important emotional attachment to "Your Team" becomes a tenuous one at best, (you almost have to collude along with a promoter that a UK Speedway meeting has relevance given the lack of any major tangible rewards), and you do have some serious obstacles to overcome... A big challenge, but hopefully those involved have the skill set to deliver a successful venture..

Or maybe a card telling you when the fixtures are... or even just whether your club is running or not 🤷‍♂️

The trouble with any pricing policy is that you are competing for a dwindling pot of disposal income. If a family of four have for example Sky and one of the other streaming services it could feasibly be costing circa £100 per month, then if the children have mobile phones that is another potential £80 to £100 per month for all four and then the children have other activities which have associated costs and then you can see with general household expenditure and a mortgage etc, not a lot left to spend on going out. That is where you look at value for money and you then hit the argument of x amount for tickets for fifteen minutes of entertainment and compare that to say banger racing or stock cars where you get several hours of racing. Not an easy problem to solve but punters will probably look at value for money and speedway does not cut it if you are trying to attract a new generation of supporters at a price point that makes it an attractive option with everything else that is trying to attract your hard earned pound.

Spedeworth do not own Ipswich, they lease the stadium and provide a sub lease to Ipswich Speedway. The bangers and stocks get good support and for some of the bigger meetings the numbers on the terraces are something that every speedway club would die for. Speed weekend is packed and the bonfire bonanza is a huge draw. Bank holidays get super crowds. Yes you are right it is a win win for those that run meetings. At Ipswich, you pay to park in addition to the entry price. Parking at speedway is free.

10 years ago speedway was quite rosey. TIMES HAVE CHANGED .

Sheffield are “freezing” their admission price of £25. So a book of 10 meetings totals a grand old saving of, ZERO pounds! Yes, you get a few little bits and bobs thrown in, team photo, birthday card etc, but who on earth is going to lump up £250 in one hit rather than “pay as you go” for the same price?

Maybe they may do it for the best interests of the sport 😝

Was that number when the stocks returned and approaching similar numbers for big meetings, don't follow stocks, but most seem to get good crowds with fans paying to get in, also the drivers pay to enter, so it's a win win for stock promotions and another win if they own the stadium, like mildenhall and Ipswich and possibly others

The trouble is what’s the hit they need to take? The state of uk speedway a £10 hit of last season prices & I don’t think you’d get anymore through the door.

Likewise, hardly missed a new era Newport meeting, went to a few at Somerset, ( awful drive down a regularly jammed M5) standing on a cold slippery bank and a circuit that was basically a big doughnut, never compared favourably to Newport, went to a few at Swindon as well, poor atmosphere looking through wire fencing across a dog track did not compare favourably either, once your team is gone it is hard to switch allegiance. I would rather attend a grass track now, slick operation, lots of good close races, but if Newport was to return I would be back in a heartbeat /

Is there a possibility that having 6 teams could salvage a tv deal (albeit a limited one) in 2026, thus providing a contribution towards the setting-up costs? But as well as the question of lack of support base and lead-up promotion & marketing, theres also the question of product quality. Whilst the sub-surface of the track should be fine (no hidden nappies), the first season at a new track is notorious for revealing previously unforseen problems. So many new tracks throughout speedway's history have failed due to such problems being insurmountable. And whereas Ipswich should be okay once their supporters get dialled into their new-look team, you do wonder about the possible quality of a 6th team, after the recent experiences of Birmingham, Kings Lynn and Oxford coming to mind. A 6-team league that features a lame duck side is asking for big trouble, not just for that club

I would imagine £26 will be there or thereabouts for the top tier this season... A hard sell if so.... Maybe some strong promotion will take place across the country if no TV deal to fall back on?
