2025 Torun SON and SON 2

All Blacks hoover up the best of the south sea island talent (Fiji, Samoa, Tonga) for themselves... Find someone looking Japanese in the Bold Blossoms! Italy Rugby team are mostly players not quite good enough for NZ or Argentina. There is a chap born in Sandwell playing for West Brom in the Hungarian national team. -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
old bob at herne bay replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Lots of interesting and some irrelevant comments on here again at the end of another season of British Speedway. Hung up my programme board a few seasons ago I admit, and the demise of the few remaining clubs in the southeast of England didn't help ..... but isnt the problem that there is a lack of supporters who have an interest in the sport in the UK ? Too many other competing calls on people's leisure time . Blame who you like for the slow demise of the sport in the UK, but the bottom line is not enought people will pay to watch it. -
Lawrence is bringing Buxton back so all his time will be there. So tolley whereever he goes will be going it alone đź‘€

Good post. Your first sentence nails the sports biggest problem in my opinion. Doubling up has got out of control. One league is not the answer as there would be a number of riders who would consider quitting the sport if their earnings were impacted, unless they sought other jobs to supplement their income. On top of this there is the likely situation of GP level riders giving the UK a miss if fixed race nights are to be relaxed. Admittedly I’ve said nothing new and don’t have the answers, but then again I’m not Harry Redknapp! -

It's not exactly just a speedway thing, though, is it? Happens in almost every sport. Declan Rice (football, Ireland and England) and Israel Folau (rugby, Australia and Tonga) are two high profile ones I can think of off the top of my head... although I'm sure there are thousands of examples. -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

All on this forum can try and guess what will happen in 2026 and many have some very good points to make but in reality the powers that be are not listening to the core support and few if any on here have any investment in the sport or any financial interest in the current set up. The running of the sport is questionable given that the clubs and promoters dictate the rules and almost operate on the basis of a Masonic lodge. I accept that it is not my money on the line but if you follow the current premise, the sport is on a downward trajectory as those in charge maintain a self interest and rely on the personal preservation of the investment over entertainment value and attracting a new audience. The closed shop that currently operates believes the current business model works. If that is the case why does it not attract top quality sponsors and why is the wider media not clamouring to get a slice of the action. WBD have seen the writing on the wall by distancing themselves from the promotional side of the sport. That in itself should tell us something. One can only hope that positive changes are forthcoming as the status quo is not an option if speedway is to flourish. -

Bubba will be a spoiler for Saturday I’m sure, he beats parnitskyi and rides in a more challenging Ekstraliga instead of M.2… both riders are great and fun to watch! -

That 3rd / 4th race-off at the end is useless, makes the preceeding 6 heats those pairs have ridden a waste of time. Parnitskyi would have been an interesting spoiler in the final as I'm sure Lebedevs will prove to be, less faith in Kvech I have! -
Part of the reason it closed was due to Sheffield switching to Sunday racing.

A bit like a Finnish rider riding for team Sweden against his own country, it’s complete and utter pants and the idiots in charge sanction it. It’s difficult to understand why supporters don’t go and watch this spectacle isn’t it. -
They won't need him if they land Beau Bailey that lad genuinely looks like the next Leigh Adams ,hopefully he is well advised and doesn't try to jump to high to start with even allowing for his bags of natural talent.

Has anyone heard anything around the future of Leicester I'm hoping Cairns snr isn't going to chuck the towel in after one season ? -
Excellent that all sounds very promising just need to hope now there's some kind of league structure still in place for 2026 as these sound exactly the kind of people we need to attract into promotion. I'm not going to put you on the spot but I wonder if its the chap who has mountains of cash who backs Ipswich and is also supporting Sheffield from memory.

That is probably a very good guess.

Only in speedway could a team accrue more points in the main meeting such as Ukraine and the team with fewer points in the Czech Republic qualifies for the final. No wonder few take this two wheeled sport seriously.
