Panthers V Berwick 26/08/2014 @ 7pm

Recommended Posts

Disappointing not to pick up a point tonight, I thought we would have enough riders who would be suited to the Peterborough track to get something. Very little chance of a top two finish now which means a likely trip to Armadale and possibly Brough Park in the play-offs. All in all though if you had offered a play-off place at the start of the season I would have taken it. Berwick were very much outsiders to reach the play-offs in the eyes of the pundits and bookies.

I was shocked at how low the crowd was, surely nowhere near enough to sustain speedway at Peterborough. Even more disappointing was the Catweasel lookalike outside the first bend bar who cheered and shouted "w*nker" when Alex Edberg fell in heat 6. Gave him a lecture and embarrassed him in front of his friends.

Wow what a night.

Well done to the Panthers. some great racing. had the crowd on their feet.

Hope Ben Barker is ok after nasty crash, walked back to pits but took no further part in meeting.

The Scotsman.

Yes it was the fours meeting, that the chips at the back of the main stand were not good.

Tonight, jacket potato beautiful, and hot chocolate.

Good night all

This result in some ways is a bigger disappointment than Sundays efforts at Rye House, on a bigger track that should've suited us far more than Hoddesdon we have come away with nothing. When will we learn that when we have a reserve scoring as Matek Kus is he must have a full seven rides, looking at the scores both Jensen and Vissing should've been replaced in one of their rides, might not have made a difference but to see Kus with 13pts from six rides would suggest he would scored some points in an extra race.

Why was you shocked? Tuesday night is the wrong night to run speedway at Pboro, The new promotion got it wrong  but won't admit it.

shadders we've read it takes a average crowd of 700 to break even , take into account last nite the 40/50 who stand on 1st bend and all the way round to pits how many brave souls were round backstraight 15 ??? there was about 30 standing in the back of the stand so that leaves around 600 who need to be seated, bearing in mind the stand has 2200 seats so how far would you say they out from sustainable ,

we've had some real good meetings/racing this season , but there's quite a few who haven't given the premier a chance , crazy stuff

Really enjoyed the meetings last night, thought the track held up well.

Always good to see racing on a track with more than one racing line, at times you didnt know if the outside was going to overcome the inside.

As no Polish riders this year, nice that Lasse is taking up the fence bouncing line!!! :t:

Been the same for years: "I will never forget that the 2006 Grand Final, arguably the greatest modern day meeting ever, watched live by over 6000 people and by thousands more at home, was followed by a Craven Shield fixture attended by less than 700 people. If that Grand Final won’t pull people in, then what will?!?!" (Bratters' final Panthers blog on "Lovespeedway24).

A large stand has a downside in that 2/3rds empty is a good crowd at this level.

Baby Bjerre is mad, but worth the admission fee on his own. When he learns to gate, he will be a top rider.

But will be on his way as we're a feeder club now. In fact the way he's stepped it up recently it looks like he'll be ready for a full time stab at the EL (or whatever our best level is called) in 2015. It's a shame the brothers were not born the other way round, we (and Frost/Mahoney) would have had the exciting one with a personality. Could have been so different.

Screm You have to be realistic too. I think this is or was 5 meetings in some 6 days for Berwick, man and machine. Some riders will struggle to keep machinery in top condition in those circumstances. Kus seems to tail off later in meetings and failed to score late on as he often seems to do. TBH I think 6 rides would be enough. Some you win mate!

baby bjerre has been faultless this season ,if panthers are still running next season and he still wants premier racing he should be 1st on teamsheet , simply cant fault him so different to his brother

Frost said that he'd hope that there be a Bjerre at Peterborough for a long time. Well he's found one we like so he could build his EL team (minus the other one) around Lasse. But then I woke up!

If he's getting the hang of the big league then can't see him hanging around:

I love @WolvesSpeedway track now!!! Cant wait for next weak. Paid 12 tonight #15

Superb entertainment last night.

Ridiculous value at £20 for an adult.

Track was in great condition - passing opportunities all over the place.

Some of the racing was pretty scary!!

The downside was that the air fence doesn't seem to be secured to the track.

Hall got wedged under it in his first race against Bandits when Jensen gave him a big shove.

Worse was when Barker went into turns 3&4 far too fast and piled into it and seemed to get trapped behind it for ages till they could get the bags away from him.

Fortunate he was able to get up and walk back after a while.

Disappointing that this is still happening after Holder's big off last year at Coventry (?).

Panthers were so committed all night with the big turn around against Bandits being in heat 10 when Bandits were 4 up and Kus was coming in on the back of 3 wins and gated well ahead of Bjerre and Roynon.

Bjerre seemed to rough him up a bit to get past and Roynon followed suit.

That was the end of Kus' dominance for the night.

He won his next outing but that was only against Barrett & Hall, and then finished at the back in heat 14 against Ostergaard and DILGER (!) with Max having to force his way past Jensen for the second place!!

4 x 5-1's, a 4-2 and a 3-3 in the last 6 heats completed the job.

Of the new signings, Hall was a bit better with 4+2 from his 3 finishes; Roynon was spectacular for 6+1 and Dilger was surprisingly good with 5+1 from 4, including points against Bellego, Kus and Jensen (can't include the one against Edberg because he was pants and only scored his 1 point because Hall's bike packed up at the start of heat 9).

At least Bandits made a fight of it.

Plymouth on the other hand were never at the races.

One race win out of 13 tells the story.

Only Newman looked likely to do much and his tapes demolition in heat 8 put paid to their challenge.

Barker wasn't threatening in his first ride and tried the kamikaze move in his second to put himself out of the meeting.

Nice to see Hall pick up a race win (he gated in that race!) though he did hit the deck in another 2, once was by laying the bike down to avoid Barker.

Ditto Dilger won a race but also surprisingly added no more points from his other two rides.

Roynon was again all action and great value for his 7+1.

But over the night the top 3 reigned supreme.

Bjerre only headed by an opponent once in 9 rides.

Dryml twice in 9 rides.

Ostergaard once in 7 rides.
