Sky To Pull Out.

Recommended Posts

It hasn't so far Steve.

It was the television coverage that got me interested in Speedway again after a 10 year absence and for my eldest son, made him nag me to take him.

How can I watch that Polish TV highlights programme on Sundays? What is the name of the broadcast company? Any tips would be appreciated. When they did offered Pay Per View I paid for a monthly pass for live matches and that was excellent value. Presumably it did not raise enough revenue.

Tv got me into it. Back in 2000. Hardly missed a home meeting since.

I think speedway works great on telly. Been to some rotten meetings. Follow the leader. Went home. Watched me meeting back with the drama of a great commentator it's really built it up. Also I always think racing looks closer on the telly too. Sky have done a good job.

How can speedway use tv to their advantage though. It lets people know its out there but they cannot use footage for promotional stuff. Other than cheap admittance when tv is in town and advertising future meetings on top of that.

Some people just don't buzz for speedway. I don't buzz for rugby.

I think most tv viewers do attend meetings. And most speedway fans who attend meetings also watch tv meetings involving other clubs. We are a passionate bunch for our sport. That's why the viewing figures hold up. And that's why some people on here moan about things. Iguess it's like politics where everybody says they would run the country differently.

Running speedway and running the country are very alike,,,

the whole thing is on its knees,

massively influenced by foreigners,

the place is full of moaners,

Personally I think a carp meeting looks worse on telly than live. At least it's loud and smelly if you're there.

I notice on the SGB website that they have put up a short video of a winter race at Scunthorpe.

The Tapes Up production is described as being "licensed by GSI/BSPA agreement".

So whatever else is happening behind the scenes with TV contracts.

Any hopes that the Russell stranglehold on media rights is over may be premature.

Shame.

I remember some years ago when on holiday in Wales SKY were transmitting a match from Foxhall Heath between Ipswich and Oxford. The back straight was void of people and the racing bland to say the least. I eventually got up and went for a walk in the woods nearby because I found the experience quite dull and the commentators attempting to make something good out of mundane irritating.

Speedway is far better viewed live trackside when you can have a banter with your mates etc.

I paid for the speedway. tv offical stream as well- i'm still waiting for my refund for the final that never happened !!!

The highlights programme is on Sunday evenings broadcast by N sport who are the company that broadcast at least 2 matches from the Extraleague every week. If you keep an eye on the international section you will find that i have a thread going with all the Polish speedway that is televised and or internet coverage where there is a fair bit. Lots of us watch all this action through streams - not legal however streams are normally excellent quality. There is also Polish div 1 (Nice Polska) shown every weekend on Polsat channel.

I'm another one who got back into the sport after a long absence due to Sky's coverage. If the rumours are true, it would be the biggest knock to the sport this winter, in my view.

Its neither any more I,m afraid. One of the main drawbacks of the modern sport

Unless you are at Monmore where the music is so loud you have to shout banter at each other to make yourself heard..

Maybe not as much as it was, but still louder and smellier than your front room. Plus you get to socialise on the terraces. However promoters need to make the effort to get people to come when it's on telly. Apart from play offs I don't go to Lynn meetings on TV out of principle because no effort is made by the promotion.

Shame.

why would this need Gospeed permission?

The rights surely are for league speedway only not a glorified off season practice session.
