Ok my thoughts on BT and the studio.

I think the BT coverage is pretty good, but the studio part is very mundane.

Natalie is fine, but Scott Nicholls is too afraid to speak his mind or say anything slightly controversial in fear of upsetting one of his mates, or rocking the boat with the authorities.

There is controvesy and nothing is said. Stuff is brushed away when it should be debated.

Personally, there needs to be another face in the studio either alongside Nicholls or to even replace him. A third person might inject wider debate and bring up incidents, talking openly, if they are not tied to the sport like Nicholls is. How about a fan going on, or an ex rider who says things as it is?

Personally I like Pearson and Tatum. They are very enthusiastic and it shows, similar to the Polish commentators in the extraleague, who also ger very shouty. Rather have commentary like that than the sec comentary team, who still do a decent job if a more matter of fact style.

Bit puzzled here because Nat and Scott do confront the issue head on after heat 16 - ok, maybe avoiding being too controversial, but they certainly don't entirely duck the issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sky invent or at least promote the Joker?

If BT are happy to maintain, or have some say in the continuation of this abomination of a rule, then all the presenters are in pretty much in an impossible position.

How can they be seen to be criticising policies promoted by the people who employ them?

My take on the presenters - Nat is wonderful, a breath of fresh air!

Scott is good, articulate, just a tad bland.

Nicholls is dreadful in the studio. Boring, dead pan & frightened to say anything controversial about any issue incase of upsetting someone. Waste of time & end up turning over in between rounds of heats when he's talking. He needs replacing asap.

Quirk is ok & at least has a knowledge of the sport but is a bit too nice with Nicholls & can't get anything out of him.

Tatum very good in his role & knows what he's talking about. Puts Pearson in his place as well at times.

Pearson is too much of a kiss arse & is too close to the riders. He's a bit precious & obviously doesn't like any criticism of the himself, the sport or his favourite riders.

Someone like a Darren Fletcher with Tatum would be ideal, although doubt he'd do it with EPL commentaries.

Nicki Pedersen?

Well at least he would know what he is talking about - he would probably be entertaining too. :t:

It wasn't me saying this.... ;) But I of course fully endorse these comments. I missed the final but just watched the race off and it was like he was the Team USA press officer touting for jobs for them.

Think you'll find the vast majority of comments here regarding the coverage are constructive rather than 'bad mouthing', we're all grateful that BT took it on but there's no harm in commenting on how they may improve it.

So I reckon you're the only one here who hopes they pull the plug.

got to admit that you sure can read a post in an unusual way as to say I wish bt would pull the plug . ( did you see this ! )

reading further down i also said b.t. would also be getting my money for the coming years .

dont understand some folk hitting the studio coverage off , its the racing that i want to see . not studio input . i can make my own mind up as to how its presented .

good or bad , i take it as it comes . roll on K5 tv .

Oh my mistake, I thought the bit where you said, "let's hope bt pull the plug on speedway" meant that you hoped bt would pull the plug on speedway.

lets hope B.T. pull the plug on speedway coverage !

it may stop a good few posters slagging the coverage off. just be thankful that there is some speedway on your tv.

i dont understand fans bad mouthing the coverage off . its on tv for gods sake . enjoy it while . its there .

murdoch has seen the last of my money and hopefully B.T. will see more of it in the coming years .

but it wont be on if people keep twisting the knives in B.T.s back ..

You couldn't make it any clearer than what you stated above jenga.

As Speedway is possibly in it's last chance saloon regarding Television coverage - it was rather a stupid thing to say.

I have replied to his original Post NW42.

I see that Sky are changing their sports channels from next week. Premier League, other football, F1, Golf and Cricket will all have their own dedicated channel, with main event, arena and action channels as well.

You can subscribe to 1 only for £18, 2 for £22, 3 for £26 or all of them for £27.50 per month

I noticed that BT Sport were heavily promoting Monday's speedway during UFC on Saturday night.

Do you still need to subscribe to the Sky TV channels before you can any take these ( individually or as bundle) ? That's alway been my problem ( costwise ) I would love the golf or even Pay Per View of majors if it were available.

Pearson was indeed pushing them hard for rides in the UK but even in the SS Rob Godfrey said that Manzares doesn't have a visa nor any bikes. Can't see much hope of him or Becker getting a place before next season.

So, I had a total up of the passes in the Poole match on tv the other week:

Poole: 3 Passes in 3 Heats. (to clarify, 1 pass each heat)

Wolves: 14 Passes in 8 Heats.

Obviously this is my opinion of a "pass" and others will differ I'm sure.

Be an interesting exercise to try and do it for every televised meeting this season. I think it will be quite enlightening.

Also I may have missed something from Heat 14 last night as I missed most of it due to my crap Virgin box.

If you want a 3rd person in the studio give the job to

Nigel Wagstaff

Often and mostly unfairly derided on the BSF

A former promoter who upset a lot of the old school with his ideas, a lot of which are now part and parcel of the sport.

Also an articulate guy

Good to see BT sport eventually get a decent main camera position last night at Wolves instead of the back of the stand obstructed view we have had in the previous couple of weeks. BT chose last nights fixture well, Rye House are the best visitors to Monmore with Harris, Nicholls, Robson. Wells small track specialists. It was not as good as the A fixture but still probably one of the best meetings at Wolves this year
