Old Maps - Speedway Track Spotting

Recommended Posts

It was speedway in the 1950's, initially for training but the Ringwood Turfs were members of the SAL in 1954/5. It was later used by Poole for training in the early 70's.

The track you saw racing on was the 'mini longtrack' which was closed after a sidecar fatality in 1992.

Thanks very much :t:

Belle Vue: Explore georeferenced maps - Map images - National Library of Scotland (nls.uk)

Hunter's Lane must be the lane I remember walking down on my way to a meeting and seeing all the houses being demolished bit one solitary house still standing with somebody living in it.

Belle Vue also used to be an athletics track: Explore georeferenced maps - Map images - National Library of Scotland (nls.uk)

You can still quite clearly see the outline of the track and the terracing on the ground. I took some photos of it a few years ago.
